  • We have done it and we still do it. Most trips are together though.
  • I have done just this since I've been in maintenance and it has worked for me. 3+ (now going on 4 years) and so far so good. Never have I gone up 10lbs either.
  • Every. damn. day. Many (if not most) days 2x.. Depending on my workout schedule or whatever else if happening... perhaps 3x. Even when I go for early morning runs, I get showered just before my run and then again when I get back.
  • I'm not a fast runner either. Most days is about 11 min/mile.. A good number of people whiz right by me and we just give a friendly wave and do our thing. I run for the love of running, not for any competitiveness. This is why I don't run in a group. I often tell people they walk faster than I run.
  • Love this line...
  • Soon to be 52. Over the years I've scaled back on some of the more intense stuff I used to do and replaced it with what I would consider challenging but lower impact routines. As a general rule I alternate cardio days with other forms of conditioning (for me that means pilates and weights). I can generally go several days…
  • Just checked C2 site.. MFP Friends is their name and shows 12 on the team. As was my struggle with the team in the past, I do other activities besides row so I don't always rack up the meters for any one challenge. That said, I have more than 4 million meters logged. Good luck!
  • Does the existing MFP rowing team not participate any longer in these? I was on that team for a couple of years and we used to do - not too shabby.. It's been a while though so things may have changed.
  • My condolences on his passing. Just checked out some of his live clips on YT as well..! I've been fortunate to have played with some world renowned players as well. As I say, I gave most of that up when I got married. But, I did a ton of work from 1984 - 1992. Did some after but I quickly intentionally stopped it.
  • Pilates can most certainly be done at home. It can be require as little as a mat or can go up to a Cadillac and/or Reformer (plus other options). I do mat almost daily. I also do reformer and use a spine corrector about 4x per week. Neither of these are "required" but offer additional opportunities. Some food for thought:…
  • This post is brilliant!!
  • Excellent.. What types of things did they have you doing?? There are a few excellent Pilates resources for doing things at home. Let me know if you are interested.
  • I don't have APT but I do sit all day (and have for decades) at a desk job and have super tight hips among many other posture related issues. A huge focus of Pilates is about restoring proper spine alignment and strengthening the muscles that support the system. You may want to explore available options on apparatuses such…
  • Hey all.. if anyone is active here and would like support feel free to add. Active friends are always welcomed, for sure.
  • ^^ This....
  • This is the best I ever came across.. Perhaps some setup tips here for you.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4XKo1_tD9c
  • Cool thread! I'm a schooled drummer for the last 40+ years. Gave up doing the public stuff when I got married. No point in being married and not being home. Generally still get 30 minutes 4-5x / week for routine maintenance practicing. Where I need to find the 15+ minutes a day is with my clarinet. Manage to study with a…
  • Haven't chimed in since Feb. but wishing you all well. I enjoyed the challenge of AF January and Feb. I almost made Feb but decided to bail since I had a great limited local brew available. I consider myself fortunate where I have no issues moderating and quite honestly seem to go more days without anything than I do with…
  • I join the others in congratulating you on amazing accomplishments. I've been in maintenance for approx 3+ years. For me the largest "switch" was more psychological by getting out of the losing mindset and into maintenance. Ultimately I added about 100 calories back every few weeks to find my desired maintenance calories.…
  • I need a 50/50 balance of both. Too much of one or the other is not healthy for me. About 4 years ago I was ALL cardio though. Now I'd be very unhappy with that. I tend to get more cardio once the winter weather lifts, but I still ensure I take advantage of the good days out there when I can.
  • A toxic work environment to be sure...
  • Thanks, Robin. I don't envy your work situation. I've been there a couple times and know just how incredibly stressful that situation can be. The two ladies who "had it in for me" ensured my life was miserable in and out of the workplace. One was considered a work[lace bully by many, but was held in such regard, nothing…
  • Been a while since I checked in. Was participating in the Dry Jan and Feb challenges. Went about 40+ days with nothing then I caved. Couldn't help it. My favorite local brewer is making this new unbelievable craft for Patrick's Day and it's a limited run. One thing I've learned from those threads (which I've opted out of)…
  • I "roughly" counted when I was losing. Never used a scale and only used a measuring cups a few times to get an approximate of serving size. I dropped about 50lbs. That was almost 4 years ago. Maintenance has been just fine. So, no I don't find I need to count calories and won't.
  • Amazing... courage.. strength... determination... a true warrior. Congrats!
  • I concur that the "all or nothing" thought process will most likely get you into trouble. We are all works in process - not machines. You will have good days/bad days... good weeks/bad weeks... good months/bad months... so a focus on long term success is more likely to take you to better places mentally and physically.…
  • Various styles of yoga. To start, I found this to be a great place to begin: Gentle Yoga: 7 Beginning Yoga Practices for Mid-life (40's - 70's) including AM Energy, PM Relaxation, Improving Balance, Relief from Desk Work, Core Strength, and more. - Jane Adams Pilates is a different practice than yoga. Involves more focus…
  • If people can log general house cleaning as exercise... feel free..
  • I respectfully disagree. Other than 1 person in my rather large circle of friends and family, every single one of us moderates successfully. In almost every single case it's 2 and done. Others are done with 1. To be honest, I haven't been around someone who has been drunk in many, many years. It is most possible to…
  • Tips? Watch out for the ice... I know a couple people who didn't see it & ended up breaking some bones from the fall. Some people have good luck with Yaktrax... others do not. I go when I can get a clear shot on the sidewalks or street after they've been plowed. Only way to know in terms of clothing is to try various…
