Wow! What a great thread of posts. There are some really smart and experienced people contributing. The only thing I have to add is, good for you. We all struggle. It takes courage to ask for help. I love to see all these encouraging responses. Well done people. We need each other to make it down our individual paths.

Welcome back. I’m sure it will be hard at first. But anything worth doing is going to have its struggles. It’s those challenges that define our victories. It will soon get easier. Hang tough.

LOL. Learned a long time ago those that feel the need to use a lot of words to make their point, usually don’t have one.

My 88 year old father is making a New Years resolution to get into better shape. Navy Vet, pace maker, two replaced knees, cancer survivor and tough as hell. He asked me for help. Tomorrow I will buy him a membership at my gym and set him up with a trainer. Any of you New Years resolutionist haters have a problem with that?

We all had a first day. Generally, it’s best to treat the new folks with kindness. It’s not up to we regulars to pass judgement on their worthiness to be there. I did ask my gyms manager about the financial impact to New Years resolutionists. He didn’t have that number. But what he does know is that 15% of his annual…

Good for you getting started. You are not alone. The most important thing is to learn proper technique. That’s the best way to get results and avoid injury. I’d encourage you to meet with a personal trainer at you gym. Don’t be scared. They want to help you. Share your goals and they will help you to develop a program that…

First of all, good for you. It’s great that you’ve made such progress. I hope you feel good about what you’ve accomplished. Getting into weights is a bit of a different animal. Technique is critical to get the results you want, and to avoid injury. I’d encourage you to find a personal trainer in your gym that you feel…

Good for you. Congrats on taking that step.

Ice for the first 24 hours to knock down inflammation. Then alternate heat then ice. Minimum 20 minutes each. Then try the stretching to see how it feels. And good for you in taking the class

First of all. Good for you donating a kidney. That automatically puts you in a very special category. I’m 57 and have really focused on getting back into shape over the past 6 years. I have some limitations related to weight restrictions due to injuries. This summer I decided to invest in a personal trainer. Great move. I…

Hear you. Backs are tough. Broke a bone in mine playing college football. In 57 now and my back has always stayed tight. First, when lifting make sure you use proper technique. If you need direction on that invest in a good trainer. Second, go light and slow. No need to rush. The key is to get full range of motion. Third,…

I’m here for ya, go ahead and add me.

Welcome. Feel free to add me. We can help bring each other along.

Hey brother. Go ahead and add me. I’m 57 and working hard at staying fit. I’d appreciate the mutual encouragement.

Start out with a Fitbit flex 2. Low entry cost <$60. But does a nice job of tracking activity and sleep. I was sceptical about using an activity tracker myself. Got a flex 2 about 2 months ago. Really like seeing my progress. Good luck.

We all fail. It’s the strong that try again. You are just regaining your strength, that’s all. And that is something to be proud of.
-
Hey buddy. I’m 57 and making it happen. You can too.
-
You are in a good place. Welcome.
-
Welcome. I’m sure you will do great.
-
Good for you. You got this.

Forgive my newness. How do you “add”?
-
Hi. New here too. Happy to help you along.
