I am so happy to see the handstand fun spreading. Just small amounts on handstand practice today as it was trapeze/silks class so I needed to keep some fuel in the shoulder tank as otherwise i would suffer at both so I just practiced between trapeze sets. Little bits often soon adds up though.

Good to see we are still going :) It is winter in my part of the world so I think I have gone backwards in my splits practice. Well tonight anyway as the circus gym was freezing and my hips didn't want to play nicely. Hopefully if I keep up my daily stretching practice by the time spring rolls around I'll be ahead on the…

It is so great seeing everyone getting into it. @mom23mangos - whatever works for you is my motto as there is no point in doing something that cause pain. I like to play around with all the different handstand types just because it is fun as much as anything.

Looking good @ContraryMaryMary - you look nice and straight to me. Only tips I can offer is to remember to try and push the floor away and pull your abs in like you have been punched in the stomach. Just back from my handbalancing class and everything is sore. It is funny for a hand balancing class we don't actually…

Yes @rodmelching - keep us posted. Day 5 done. Just a quick 5 minute muck around of kicking up. It was between sets of Stronglifts so I was taking it pretty easy especially I have an hour long hand balancing class tomorrow so need my shoulders to be somewhat alive.

@tropicalchicy - I am legal professional in the mining industry by day, wannabe aerial artiste by night.

I have done aerial yoga and absolutely loved it. I am not a flexible person but found that it really helped with my strength and flexibility. I would definitely attend a few classes with an instructor before you invest in the equipment as you might find you don’t enjoy being upside down and it is good to learn moves off an…

I am on day 29 of a daily yoga challenge. I didn't think I was making much progress with improving my flexibility but today, for the first time ever i could put my heels on the ground during downward dog pose. Yay. And then tonight in my contortion class my teacher said that my splits had really improved. Double yay.…

@tropicalchicy - I struggle with doing an l-shape on the wall as my hamstrings were super tight. It is actually easier to keep a straighter line and just move your hands forward then gradually walk your hands closer to the wall. As I have gotten stronger I have gotten closer and closer to the wall. Lots of handstand drills…

Must have been a good day for crows as I did a 30 minute yoga flow for crow position as I was feeling inspired by all the crane and crow talk. It all counts in my book - anything hand balance related is challenging and makes you very aware of body position and alignment. Hmm. In a class situation for hip flexors we usually…

Good plan re the daily reminder @Orphia. Challenges are a bit like Jan 1 on MFP - everyone is ridiculously excited for a little while and then *pfft* everyone disappears. I am less likely to disappear as I do handstands in a class environment a few times a week which is part of the reason for wanting to do daily practice…

Looking good @Orphia. I think that your arms are a little too wide as they need to be closer to your ears. Try starting with your hands on the floor so they are in the right position and then kick up as it is easier to find the right arm position here rather than when you come down and use momentum to get up. It is fun to…

Oh this was a good article as well. All my favourite things in one place  http://www.sonima.com/yoga/yoga-for-wrists-and-shoulders/

@Orphia - Thanks. She only gets tonsilitis as a side effect of glandular fever rather than something that is always happening. Steriods at the hospital worked wonders. I like running through the different types of handstands as you need to find a different centre of gravity so you can't get complacent - and it is fun to…

I did some progress pics today. I don't think i have made any progress at all :'( Though admittedly I am super tight in the hips this week from weights and handstand training Day 1 Day 30 Middle Splits Day 1 Middle Splits Day 30 I did find it amusing that I accidentally wore the same outfit for progress pics. It is now my…

@tropicalchicy - that's a great plan. It does help doing handstands if you do a warm up. I did 15 minutes of yoga before I did my daily practice just so everything would be a bit looser. Headstands are a great way to work on your alignment if your shoulders aren't feeling strong enough. Crow pose is also awesome for…

Well done @Orphia . You are pretty hardcore if you managed to do 5 minutes in a row of wall drills. I can only managed a minute tops - and that is usually in a class environment where it is almost like a competition to stay up. I did plan getting in some handstands and splits practice after I finished my yoga this morning…

Have a look at the nerd fitness article I linked. Wall drills are the way to go to build up strength - and helps with learning how to bail out if it all goes wrong. I am exited for the challenge as it helps me keep motivated for the daily practice which I find makes a big difference (not that I have done daily practice…

Lets just keep it rolling. That way at the end we can quote our beginning pics for before and after and be amazed how much we did actually prgoress :)

My splits stretching regime went completely off the rails for a few days there as i had to go away for work which meant no yoga, no stretching and no flexibility classes which is disappointing but I got back into routine today. I doubt very much that i have made progress with my splits but i have made progress with…

Well Tony your profile pic is just a chess piece which doesn't scream "I need attention". Though i am curious as I have been on MFP a very long time and have never seen a single one of your 4980 posts perhaps i have just been visiting the wrong area's. To OP - yes it is a known issue unfortunately. Just block and delete…

I often think that I might be one of those people that never will reach splits because I am naturally on flexible and my hips and legs seem to be designed different than a lot of other people, But doing daily yoga and splits stretches seems to have really helped even if it is just a mental thing rather than ability thing.…

At the moment i am 75% percent through "When: the scientific secrets of perfect timing" by Daniel Pink. Fantastic book. Previous book was The Hearts Invisible Furies by John Boyne which was fiction. Funny at times, heartbreaking sad at other times.

Are you a runner? If you are there is great book called Ready to Run which focused a lot on foot health and managing foot related injuries with lots of good mobility drills. https://www.amazon.com/Ready-Run-Unlocking-Potential-Naturally/dp/1628600098 A tennis ball might be a little bit too big for good myofascial release…

Haha = some of my friends do call me that. But is really Ti_is_Titanium as I am slightly nerdy about the periodic table.

Randomly bumping this as all the excited new years people have disappeared and i am still funny and fitness obsessed and always looking for like minded peeps.

I had my splits class this morning and I think that the daily yoga and splits stretching is making a difference. Or it is just building up my tolerance for pain so I can cope better when I am pushing my limits. A girl in my class got her first middle splits which was cool for her but then i got concrened about my own…
-
@mom23mangos - lol. That happens to me doing aerial practice sometimes. I do a few moves and think I am nailing it then I review progress videos and I look like a sack of spuds instead of a graceful artiste. Look on the bright side - where the mind goes the body soon follows.
-
I've been keeping up with the daily stretching and split stretching. I think I am improving - even if splits aren't closer to the ground i can get my chest closer to my thigh when doing the hamstring stretch which makes me happy. It is the little wins thats keep me motivated to keep trying. I'll take a progress shot on…

My contribution - though traps are kind of hidden awkward head position.
