Had never heard of that until now. Yes, I did take the picture sitting. It probably does accentuate the fat, but it is certainly still protruding when I stand.

Yes, unfortunately I’ve been out of control with my eating habits. Beer, snacks, desserts. High fat/ low carb diet? I get the low carb part but how come high fat? How does that work?
-
It just seems every little pound I’ve gained has gone directly to the middle! Lol thought that was odd!
-
I haven’t noticed any weight gain in my arms or legs! Not yet anyway. but perhaps because I do lift. I don’t really do any cardio and haven’t watched what I eat in a long time which probably explains the weight gain lol

I should add that by waist size I mean measurement at my navel, not pants size lol in pants I wear a 34. But might have to size up with the recent weight gain. I pretty much have only gained weight in the stomach area! Though you weigh more, you seem to be in better shape then me based on your measurements!

I bloat quite easily too! lol but you are clearly in good shape!

It is probably the least flattering photo of me. I'm sitting and the angle is sort of underneath. The pants I'm wearing are definitely much too tight. I thought twice about posting but figured I shouldn't hide it if I'm looking for honesty. I don't look nearly as big standing up of course!

I've actually been to see my physician since I've put on the weight for other reasons. She noted that I had gained 15 lb. but the last time I had been there was over two years ago. She didn't suggest losing any weight or anything of that sort so I guess I thought nothing of it. I probably would have acted sooner had my…

Yes my waist is 42". The 40" that I mentioned in the subject line was in reference to an article I read saying that a waist size of over 40" creates risk of health issues.
-
Basically, what I said in the OP. I had gained 15 or so pounds and knew I put on a little. I wouldn't refer to myself as skinny anymore but I didn't think I was outrageously out of shape either. I have some rolls when I sit and don't really fit in my pants I bought last year so yeah I knew I gained weight. I didn't know it…

I definitely noticed I had softened up and gotten a bit round but I just didn't realize how unhealthy it was. But reading up on waist size being such a serious health factor helped me understand that. I still don't feel like I'm insanely out of shape but thanks to the community here, Im feeling enlightened and I could…

I don't really feel like I have a huge gut honestly. I definitely softened up a bit and got a little round but never thought it was that bad! Which is kind of why I was shocked about 40 inches being considered so awful. But reading up on it did bring it to my attention. So that's true! Because my BMI isn't bad so I never…

True marathons aren't really my thing LOL but I could def. stand to start walking or jogging and will probably get back to the gym and pay more attention to what I eat every day. My metabolism isn't what it was a few years ago! I'm finding out out the hard way!
-
Thanks for the advice all! The honesty has been sort of a reality check. I've got to get back to eating healthy and staying in shape
-
Never thought of it that way. I guess that's true. Cause weight wise I never felt overweight. 180 isn't terrible for 5'10" so the waist thing threw me off. Thanks!
-
None taken! Thanks for being honest. For reference, this was me in January at about 165 and with a 37 inch waist. Never thought I was anywhere near overweight then. I was lifting then and hitting the gym but my diet wasn't great. I'll probably renew my gym membership. That should really kickstart me and help get back to…

Thanks for your honesty! I guess it's possible to not feel like you're overweight but still be at risk of some health issues. I had always been in good shape until recently. I was shocked to see that all of these online calculators said I was overweight!
-
Ahh, okay. I was a 37" in January when I weighed about 165. Felt like I was in decent shape then. I would say most of the weight I gained went to my stomach. I'm not talking pants size though. I mean like actual waist circumference
-
Okay thanks. Was just surprising I guess LOL yeah we are about the same height and weight. What is your waist size, if you don't mind?
