I’ll chime in with a couple suggestions. Changing your body composition is just like managing finances, it’s 80% behavior and only 20% knowledge. Yes take the time to educate yourself so your working as efficient as possible. But more importantly, always find a way to win in every situation. This can be as simple as…

Oh man, I’d make it a point to eat only meat around her just to stir the pot. My brother is very much overweight and even though I’ve had success with my body composition, I’ve had times in the past when he was on some kind of diet kick where he just flat out told me I was doing it wrong. Even though he’s more than 100lbs…

One would think if you’ve managed your own weight loss successfully for a decent period of time then you’d be qualified to make your own decisions without help from arm chair quarterbacks.

It’s interesting because a lot of the time the comments come from out of the blue without even discussing the topic. I’ve had many people just walk up to me and tell me I need to stop losing weight and I’m skinny enough. Of course these are folks that don’t understand that I’m not even close to being done and this is only…

I always just figure if people who don’t have the same lifestyle as me are making stupid comments then I’m right on track. But the people who tell me I need to stop and other pieces of advice, I always want to ask them where they’ve been for the past year while I was punching the clock everyday. I’ve been steering this…

I bumped into an old friend in the store and he asked if I had cancer or something.

The OP said low calorie diet. If calories are too low then working out too hard will push the body beyond what it has the resources to recover from. Depending on his lifestyle, 5 days a week could be too much. I was assuming “low calorie” meant lower than 1800

Same here. I’ve had AirPods for almost a year. I even wear them while biking and they don’t fall out. A suggestion for anyone using them, make sure to wipe off the metal contacts on them before placing them back into the case. If you have any salt from sweating on them, it will corrode the contacts inside the case…

There’s some good points in this discussion. I remember how intimidated I was stepping foot into the gym for the first time in years. I felt like the new kid on the block and like everyone was looking at me and my lack of familiarity with the equipment. I’m going to remember that and this year I’m going to pay attention…

I believe you’re asking the wrong questions. Restricting calories and losing fat is really easy if you have a clearly defined goal that is realistic. 15 lbs in 5 weeks is way too aggressive. Nothing good happens in your body when forcing it to adapt that fast. The more extreme the calorie deficit, the more your body…

This is true but as someone stated, we all start somewhere. I’m glad my gym mates were patient with my stupidity. I’m just going to plan ahead and assume my workouts will take longer while I wait for equipment to clear. Fortunately for me, it’s my belief that most of the newbies will gravitate to the machines and most of…

After multiple failed attempts at changing my body composition, I began last year at the beginning of December. It didn’t take long before I began to get frustrated with a lack of progress so I figured out that I needed to learn some new things. I began reading and listening to some podcasts. Fast forward a year and sixty…

There’s only a few people that can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Someone who is brand new to training, a genetic freak or someone who is on drugs. If you’re brand new, you will make gains in both departments but it will be short lived and if you try to do both, you will be spinning your wheels. The caloric…

I love sarcasm. It is a free service I offer.

Welcome. I’m pretty new to the forum as well. But a long time MFP user and just passed my one year anniversary of this journey. What are your goals?

I’ve been working at this for a year and one thing I’ve learned after losing 60lbs is the body doesn’t do anything in a linear fashion. Weight fluctuates every day. Despite some of the advice above, the most accurate way to track weight loss is to weigh yourself everyday at the same time with the same amount of clothes on…

I’d say the thing I wasn’t expecting was how opinionated other people are about your progress and pushing their goals onto you once you’ve made huge progress. I’m simply shocked at how many people will try to tell me when I should stop. Makes me think, where have you been for the last year while I’ve been managing this…

6 days is far too short of a timeframe. This definitely requires a crockpot mentality, not a microwave. Also, 1200 calories is probably way too low especially considering the added activity of cardio. The scale is measuring total weight, not fat alone. More patience is required.

A man who was at least 70lbs more overweight than me tell me that if I wanted to lose weight, “you don’t want to eat protein like we do, you want to eat nothing but lettuce.” I’m still trying to figure out who he was talking about when he said we. Of course this is the same man who told me he doesn’t do squats or any other…
