I’m such a fan of the month off now!!! I haven’t been able to moderate (for years!) and after doing dry January - it’s so much easier to commit to nights off and and it’s been easy and I actually “enjoy” wine free nights - love it!

Hm, interesting post! A lot of the men I know don’t think their drinking is a problem - I feel like the health aspects of drinking are being more targeted toward women now (for example the breast cancer link) and it’s true that studies show alcohol more adversely effects women than men. And yes, I do think women are more…

Start Weight: 147 Challenge Goal Weight: 137 Weigh-in #1: 146.1 Weigh-in #2: 145.3 Weigh in #3: 145.8 Weigh in #4: 143.6 Weigh in #5: 143.9 A positive thought I had this week was: I’m still in the 143 range despite not being able to work out. A healthy snack/meal I ate: I ate fairly healthy this week and didn’t overeat My…

Ha! I drank more than I planned. Not terrible but looking forward to a nice dry workweek :) you’re not alone! Also, I woke up a ton last night and thought “drinking is dumb” ha

Anyone else picking up new hobbies while cutting down or quitting drinking? I started baking :) maybe it’s just a comforting and rewarding activity? And, wine doesn’t go well with baked goods - but tea and coffee do! This was some bread I baked today. Easiest recipe ever! Super good.

Me too @kittybenn - actually looking forward to the dry week :) I finally get the stitches out of my leg tomorrow - 2.5 weeks of an infection and antibiotics. And a cold on top of that. :# I am ready to work out again! We are having friends over for the super bowl. I’m planning on one glass of wine or one beer and that’s…

I looked to see if BevMo had any craft NA beers the other day and they didn’t. I don’t drink them - but I was thinking if I found a NA beer I like it would be awesome to have on hand for the summer when we like to sit outside and bbq
-
That’s horrible - are they your friends? I definitely got a lot of “why would you do that?” For Dry January but in general I think people were appreciative of the resolve and gumption to take on an alcohol free month. Haters are gonna hate as T swift says. Finding a support system is probably a really good idea for all of…

Good for you @JulieAL1969 - I can see that too. But at least you’re still going out and having fun. My guess is over time you (and I’m including myself in that) will come up with other ways to connect with friends - coffees, walks, museum visits, movies and other outdoor activities. I’m not trying to stay completely sober…

I did it last month and the first 30 minutes were hard because usually I immediately go to the bar at cocktail hour. After that it was pretty easy, but I did always have a glass in my hand it was just club soda or a lemonade. I also found that telling people off the bat I was doing an AF challenge kind of heightened my…

I tried Fre when I was pregnant and it tasted like grape juice to me! I had a glass and a half of wine last night and was totally Meh about it! It’s a great bottle and tasted good but I felt almost happier just drinking my sparkling water. Hoping this month has changed my brain a little :)

I made some “cookies” no bake, organic unsweetened peanut butter, unsweetened coconut flakes, chia seeds, honey, oats, and dark chocolate cocoa nibs, dried blueberries - just put in mixer - and roll into balls and put in the fridge. They are my go to “sweet” a little healthier version and kids love them!

Favorite teas I found this month- the Trader Joe’s ginger tumeric has just the right amount of sweet and spice. I also got the Pukka chamomile vanilla Manuka which is good as well. I bought a bag of Matcha too- which I have not tried but I’ve been wanting to make nut milk matcha lattes which I hear are awesome for your…

Forever?! Lol not sure but my FIL is a former alcoholic sober for like 20 years and he puts down ice cream like no ones business.

Happy first day of February! Thinking about the results of dry January this morning. It’s one of the best things I’ve done in years. I plan to do it every year moving forward. The results of the month are really clear to me- I lost 4 pounds, I slept better overall, I felt in control and proud, especially when I went to…

Craving sweets here too- and have baked a ton this month, banana bread, cranberry bread and I never bake! I think some sugar is fine - waY better than the wine

Looking forward to a moderated February. My body is going to force me to stay dry for a while - I’m on antibiotics for an infected surgical site and caught a cold from my 5 yr old boo!
-
I know what you mean, but I am guessing your body is holding on to water weight given your training. I had the same thing- but then had to have a minor skin surgery that then got infected and I had to stop working out. Within two days I lost 3 pounds.
-
Yep, I was thinking about making it one bottle of wine a week which is five glasses (or four for me :)) - that would be like nearly 1/4 of what I was drinking (which was a half bottle a night)
-
I plan to start drinking again in Feb but much more moderately. I never have wanted to quit entirely, but just felt like alcohol was taking up too much headspace, too many nights vowing to not drink the next day (but drinking anyway) and feeling like a fraud when I portray this active, super healthy life, when I’m drinking…

I’m not going dry in Feb- more like damp!

Wow @springsweet that’s crazy. Speaking of health - I had my yearly physical blood test - everything came back normal. But my MCV test is on the very high end of normal and I guess that is related to heavier drinking. It’s lower than last year, but is motivating for me to continue to cut wayy down.

I just have to say one more thing - this is the first time I have had a place to honestly share my struggles in the area of alcohol. It’s sooo nice to have some encouragement but also some accountability. I don’t want to let anyone down :) not in a bad way, but more in an encouraging way.

It was so awesome plugging in the day into the dry January app and seeing four consecutive weeks. I’m terrible at committing to things like this - (@kittybenn I totally know what you mean) so this month has meant extra to me and the resolve and strength I have that I didn’t know was there. I have also lost 5 pounds and…

I think the only thing you can do is hang in there sometimes and let the craving pass and it will! Sometimes I go on Pinterest and create a board or look up recipes and plan the week. I definitely make a “mocktail” in a wine glass just because I deserve it!
-
@kittybenn I’m planning to be a weekend only wine drinker and then just a glass or two. My best friend is really successful with this - and I know I can too now that I’ve been through this great month! For me, I have learned that I need to commit. So I’m committing to not drinking during the week. My husband is like just…

I appreciate the honesty of people on this board. I think this month has truly been an eye opening time. I know for a long time I’ve been in denial. I eat very healthy and always have stayed fairly thin and worked out - but I didn’t see daily drinking as unhealthy. This month and reading the Naked Mind and other books has…
