Congrats! I feel the same way about stress. Instead of uncorking some wine, I’m processing better and reaching for hot tea and a good book!
-
Haha! I’m doing dry January and surprising myself with how much I’m enjoying it! (I was a nightly wine drinker :))

Haha most of the time I feel so happy I’m doing it, but there’s moments that I’m like man, a glass of wine would sure be nice

Making dinner with my faux rose :) it’s Trader Joe’s strawberry rhubarb and sparkling water

I got through the wedding reception at the brewery without a sip! I was tempted to taste my husbands beer but he wouldn’t let me :) at first I felt weird, and almost like I was without the “protection” of a glass of wine, but pretty quickly it became easy. Talking to people was great, and I didn’t feel deprived. It was a…

I am drinking loads of sparkling water - and some tea too! I haven’t missed wine all that much until today - it’s been nearly two weeks and I’d like to have a glass but I will persevere!

Oh my gosh I told my mom the same thing last night!!!!!!!
-
I have “cut down wine intake” in pretty much all my January goals in my past journals too

I woke up early and feel good! I was just thinking about how much I like NOT drinking. These 12 days have really been so wonderful. I really didn’t expect to feel so upbeat and my mood improved. It’s not always easy, my dad came over with a bottle of wine and when I was uncorking it I had a brief longing but it passed. We…

Darn - no fun. Hope tonight is better!

Ugh that sucks. I’m a runner too. When I ran a marathon my knee hasn’t been the same. I too back off when it flares and usually it’s fine. I can’t run more than a half marathon now though. I hope you get some answers. I need to get one of those rollers for my IT band

I’ve done this so many times - don’t beat yourself up. You’ve got this.

Injuries are the worst. I broke my foot in several places a few years ago and it was horrible. Do you have access to a pool? That’s a workout that’s easy on the bones and joints.
-
@kimkimcoleman do you have a night guard for your teeth? I used to get headaches too from grinding - mine helps a ton.

My first big challenge is this weekend. We have a wedding reception at a brewery! Luckily beer isn’t my weakness - but it will still be weird to not drink at a wedding. My husband is thrilled I’m the DD since it’s a two hour drive from us. I’m actually curious about how I’ll feel and the conversations I’ll have without a…

Moderating didn’t work very well for me either. If you are up for it try an extended dry period - committing to 30 days. It’s the first time in years I’ve cut out wine for this long. And, because there’s no option to drink or not (while the habit is strong) it’s so much easier and freeing. I feel like I’ve learned so much…

I’m sorry that’s the worst. I hate nightmares. I didn’t sleep better until I was about 6 days in to dry Jan. I had a headache and woke up really early a few of the first days. Maybe try and string together a long streak and see if it helps? I’m sure despite the lack of outward benefits your body and liver are probably…

Day 10 - boom
-
It’s so true. I haven’t really been tempted but I definitely have the urge as 4 pm comes around for something to help relax. Tonight it was a spritzer of strawberry rhubarb soda and sparkling water. Our minds are conditioned for a reward so finding healthy alternatives is something I’m learned and enjoying!
-
Also, I’m using the Dry January app and it says that I’ve saved $54 dollars so far this month - yay!
-
Day 10 and feeling good. Another good night of sleep. Oddly my anxiety has been ramping up the last few days. But not using wine to cope is a big win. I’m enjoying reading about people’s victories, realizations and thoughts every day. My husband who is not doing Dry January has definitely taken his craft beer drinking down…

Anyone have a Fitbit Alta? I’ve been researching and want a monitor for HR as well as other functions.

I eat a lot of my calories back lol - but I’ve been doing a really tough daily workout and burning between 500-800 calories a day so I’m hungry!! I also don’t want to lose weight too quickly. I want to lose about 7-8 pounds total.
-
Day 9 - looking forward to double digits tomorrow. I’ve lost 3 pounds so far (not just from dry Jan) but feel great. I wish I would have done this years ago!
-
Love it! I need to come up with some things I’ve been putting off to keep busy but be productive!
-
This morning when I woke up after another night of great sleep I was thinking about what has sabotaged my efforts at moderation in the past. I think I have hit on it - on non-drinking days I’ve always viewed it as a drag, or boring or deprivation. Like let me get through this day so I get to have wine again. This month so…

Day 8 - feeling great

Day 8 in the books. I thought I was going to really feel deprived this month but instead I’m enjoying it. I think when the end of January comes it’s going to be somewhat of a struggle to decide whether to keep going. Either way, finding replacements I like for wine has been great. I like the Tumeric Ginger tea from Traders…
