This type of motivation is awesome! Keep it up! Just wanted to add that, IMO, you can still drink your Diet Coke. It doesn't have any calories and is still better than sugary alternatives.

I'd do mostly compound lifts with heavy weights rather than strict ab work or excessive cardio. Deadlifts, rows, bench press and squats have worked well for me along with a caloric deficit.

I always "cheat" with ice cream too. However, I've been getting the low-fat ice cream (Halotop or Aldi brand) and eating about 5 pints a week (they're only 240 calories per pint for vanilla). If you weigh about 210 lbs, then 2900 cals would be around your maintenance weight depending on movement/activity per day. I'm not an expert but I've lost 20 lbs (195 to 175) on a cut and slightly increased my lifts during that time. I eat around 2000 cals a day with a 50C/25F/25P split.
