  • I just picked up some "brownie batter" hummus at the store, and I've seen recipes online. If I like the way it tastes, I can see that fitting nicely into my sweet snack list. One of my favorite snacks was a Nutella sandwich (I know, I know) and chocolate hummus just might give me a version that has actual food value.
  • The YMCA isn't all that cheap here. $600+ for one person at one center. If you want access to all the facilities, it's closer to $800+. Yes, that's for a year, but it's not the cheap option one might expect.
  • My husband and kids are on the roasted cabbage steak wagon with me. I saw the recipe above, and that's it. Super easy and delicious. My husband and I love the loose bits that get all crispy, and we can eat a whole small cabbage by ourselves.
  • As a short lady, I do get annoyed at how MFP logs exercise. It tells me that 2.5 miles per hour is "slow". I have a 29" inseam - I have to move those little legs awfully fast to go 2.5 miles an hour! At 3 mph, I'm already jogging. My husband has long legs; I can match him footfall for footfall, but I'm always lagging…
  • I just did. I'm embarrassed...but it was delicious. But it's a good reminder why I can't afford to eat like that on a regular basis anymore.
  • I rather enjoy Amazing Grass. One of the tastiest ones I've tried so far. I've also tried one made from bone broth (actually called Bone Broth Protein) That was Ok. Just because it wasn't my favorite - you might think it's great. Worth a try - at Fresh Thyme they have a variety of single serving packets, which are great…
  • Our sons are allergic to eggs, so we've had to massage a lot of recipes. For meatballs or meatloaf, we use bread or cracker crumbs soaked in milk. It's not diner beautiful, but it holds together surprisingly well.
  • I'm a noob here, so I may not make any sense... I'm trying to avoid added sugars. Sure, an orange has sugar, but has a lot of other good qualities, too. Dairy has sugar as well, but it also has calcium and protein. Snickers bars do not measure up the same way. I'm in no danger of overconsumption, so I let myself eat as…

  • My favorite way to cook oats is a recipe called "Butterscotch Oatmeal" (it's all over the place online). In addition to cooking the oats (old-fashioned, please) in milk, you add a beaten egg to the mix before turning on the heat. I've always used only half the sugar. By starting the oats in cold liquid and then cooking…
  • I'm looking to lose about 70 pounds or so. 1 pound a week seems like a reasonable goal. 1370 is the target MFP gave me... I'm not exercising yet. My thought has been, if I give myself some time to get used to the reduced calorie routine, then I wouldn't be exercising on an empty stomach. I really hate exercise as it is, so…
  • Yes. BPD, DDNOS, Schizotypal traits and Atypical Depression. With some OCD and addictive traits. And Narcolepsy. Motivation and self-discipline are NOT my strong points. I struggle sometimes with basic self-care - like showering more than once a week (it takes so much focus and energy!). Depression fatigue is a very real…
  • Thanks everyone. Logging my food and getting the calories counts has really helped. I know that some of my estimates are off, but I also know that the margin of error is still WAY beyond the way I used to eat. I'm sure as I go along, I'll get more comfortable with a lot of the ideas. This is a HUGE change that I need to…
  • 47+ (not 48 yet). I'd like to lurk if that's allowed?
  • I've noticed the worst time for me seems to be at work. I'm at the office for almost 10 hours, and every 2-3 hours I want to eat. My snacks are healthier this week than they were before the holidays, but I can still pack in over half my day's calories. And healthy lunches may be a challenge - there's only one refrigerator…
  • On Christmas, I got a look at myself in a full-length mirror, naked, for the first time in years. I couldn't believe what I looked like. This has got to stop.
