As others have indicated, recovery takes longer, so if you overdo it, you are out longer until you can get back at it. You have to be more patient at over 50, because the setbacks require a longer comeback.

5-20 minutes on the elliptical gets things moving. The first set is a moderate weight before putting on more difficult weights for the exercise. I want to see how things feel before I try to approach any personal bests. But I do resistance training to maintain muscle mass and keep arthritis at bay, not to get swole.

Or you are prepping for a colonoscopy....

Cilantro is overrated.

I was riding a metric century a few years back and at about mile 57/92km. I'd stopped at a local port-a-potty on the trail and was getting back on my bike and I just fell over, still clipped in. I had gotten light headed and lost my balance. It's always like a cartoon. Feels like slow motion, but there is nothing you can…

Meh! I tend to round up things, so if I'm over, I may not really be over. If I'm doing it every day, yeah, it's a problem. If it happens occasionally, no big deal. What is more important is that you are accurate, or at least know your error mode when logging food. As I said, I round up, so if I weigh out 25g of cheese and…

Yep, get a sirloin, smallest cut a place has. For me, 8oz is enough and will be under 500 calories. If the steak is larger than 8oz, I'll cut off a portion and have it in my omelette the next day. Broccoli or other steamed vegetable. Salad, no croutons, dressing on the side. Dip fork in dressing before spearing food. No…

Not sure why you would choose fat free yogurt or a berry shake. Berries have carbs. I suspect the fat-free yogurt makes up for the no fat with some form of carbs. If you are really going for low carb, and not just say 40g carbs in snacks/day then you would be looking for high protein and fat sources. Fat free yogurt and…

As a testosterone poisoned male, I'd have to say #5 and #9 look better heavier. They are more fit compared to their lower weight pictures. Lower weight doesn't automatically mean fitter or healthier. After all, POWs probably are at their lowest weights as adults... Another example, you might be a meth addicted tweeker, now…

My diary is open. It's been a pretty ugly past 6 weeks. Lots of travel.

Did your Dr say not more than 40g of carbs/day? You write that your Dr put you on a 1200 calorie diet, but you didn't write that your Dr gave you a macro mix. That seems odd. I went for T2Dm, and was put on a 2250 calorie/day diet with no more than 60g carbs/meal and then 45g in snacks. The rest was divided up in fat and…

My son can wear some of my fat clothes. But not my pants. He's even bigger in the waist than I ever was. He's 26 and watching me do this and not changing his approach to diet and exercise. Not that I know it all. But I do know from having been 26 and now being 2x26 and then some that it was easier then than now.

Everything in moderation, sure. No argument. But for those who don't practice moderation, are they more likely to over consume calories eating Big Macs or Kale? I thought my point was obvious. But yes, there is always the college professor who lost weight eating mostly snack cakes because he was in a calorie deficit. But…

I can see this in a general sense from watching human behavior. Even without doing math, most of us know that primarily eating fast food and sitting around watching TV isn't good for us. We know that smoking isn't good for us, or drinking to excess, or taking certain drugs and so on. So knowledge by itself, be it how many…

And my goal is to get back down to that 195. About 20# to go. I'll probably only be able to do the situps. Arthritis in my knees and shoulder will probably prevent the same running and pushup performances some 30 years later. But I expect I can maintain 20MPH+ on my bicycle for 13 minutes :)

I start lowing my offer after 30 minutes. My time is worth something. Really gets the salesperson's attention. If my next offer is $100 less than the last I say my time is worth something, and we are moving on to the next hour, so I'm less willing to pay and am offering $100 less. That puts an end to the games really…

I find myself saying this about a lot of things. I see someone whinging on TV about getting ripped off at the car dealer. Didn't they spend some time reviewing car buying or financing tips to learn that paying $1k for pin strips and fuzzy dice was a bad idea. Or that they might want to see if they can get a better interest…

I'm sorry this happened. My approach, and use it if it works for you, is to either share with someone else or just ask for a thumb sized bite. That would have worked in your case. You would have tasted it, satisfying your curiosity and learning it wasn't that good. No reason you couldn't rush out of there and not eat the…

Oh, I don't disagree. The facts on the ground are as you say. There is all sorts of "danger" in the store. I would hope that people are not taking the rule that because the caramel apple wrappers are in the perimeter, they are "good to go." You know, the spirit of the rule sort of thing. Heck, I'm Libertarian, you do you.…

Seems like a green light to me :)

I don't think the rule is NEVER go down those aisles. I've taken it to mean limit your trips down those aisles, or be careful in those aisles. I'm a firm believer in your can eat almost anything, save those who have true diagnosed medical issues. (I.E. we would be breaking out the Epi-Pen if my wife had shellfish.) Heck, I…

Well, I mostly adhere to the perimeter rule. I don't get my tissues and cleaning products at the market. I get those at the warehouse club :) At least my intent is to steer myself, and anyone who wishes to emulate what I'm doing, to buy meat, fish, chicken, dairy, fruits, vegetables, etc and steer clear of the meal kits,…

And that's total users. How many are actually active, as in having posted in the last week, month or year? Just guessing, probably 19 million have signed up. Maybe 1.9 million actually are active. Just a gut feeling, I have no numbers to back up my impression.

Not really. Heck the same format even shows up here. There are those who try to peddle the "you are not responsible for whatever your circumstance might be, blame _______" Or, if only the food industry would change their ways, then so many people wouldn't be fat. The formula is blame a third party for your circumstance. We…

I doubt we reflect the majority of society. Heck, not even everyone here believes calories matter. You have the occasional person who says counting calories isn't necessary, just eat _______, or do ________, you don't need to count, track, measure, etc.

Odd, so what you are saying is that it is disturbing that I even know about "The Red Pill." I find that is odd. No one said men need to lash out. So if this is a feeble attempt to suggest I've said that, you are creating a straw man that has no place here. I've simply said that the notion that men are not told to do…

Do they repress it or just express things differently. If you've ever read a relationship book, or picked up your mom/sister/wife/girlfriend's coffee table reading, or watch an Oprah style show, you see where the message is men need to change how they approach relationships. They are too angry, or too repressed, or too…

Certainly not saying any behavior that doesn't let a person be his or her self is good. Telling the women she should smile is no different than telling the boy he cannot cry, or he can't be angry, or he shouldn't get excited when his team scores a goal. None of those behaviors harms another person. Yet people feel it's ok…

No we are not told to smile. However, to suggest that we are not told to not be ourselves is not true either. We are told to express our emotions, except anger, we are not supposed to be angry. Somehow, anger is a sin. We are told we shouldn't be so shallow. We are told that we are inferior when it comes to relationships.…
