I cycle, which brought me to this topic. The only thing I'm smart enough to take exception to is the idea that no one buys a car to store things in the back seat. That person obviously hasn't seen my wife's car :) (Or the trunk of my car as I use it for work...) Carry on with the more serious aspects of the discussion.

I think it's limitations of the language. There is a difference between a good guy and a nice guy. A good guy is good because that is consistent with his values. A nice guy is often running a ledger. I.E. I was nice to you so you should be nice to me. There are times when being nice is not the good thing to do. I suspect…

I bring this out from time to time as we humans are generally bad at measuring and/or estimating what we've actually consumed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA9AdlhB18o&t=7s

That as well as not all medical professionals give good advice. About a month ago, I found out that someone who was an ROTC cadet with me as an undergrad and went on to Medical School is now on QuackWatch for some questionable medical advice offered to clients. The anti-vax, anti-mask, etc is not limited to the uneducated.…

Wonder if it is more meaningful to look at the area under the curve. Given the graph indicates the odds of being divorced by the next anniversary the area under the curve should approximate the divorce rate for marriages. Just thinking out loud here...

Since I sporadically come here to the forums and make contact with my wife daily, I'd say marriage is more important. Not for the sake of marriage, as I had one before this one. She ended it months (or years) before informing me of the fact and eventually divorce was better and less expensive (fiscally as well as…

Well, it was barely sub 200# and it was in the 1980s, but I was running 2 miles in 13:00 flat for the Army. At the time, my time for a 100% on the 2 mile run was 13:02. I hovered between 190 and 195# and they were always on me to lose weight. But I was built like a 5'11" linebacker, and I'd max my APFT doing 70+ pushups…

My first marriage ended at 7 years when my now ex-wife decided she wanted to sleep with a guy old enough to be her dad. Re-married in 2007 and that one seems to have stuck. Oddly, I met my first wife at church and my second on-line. One would think the circumstances and results would be the opposite of the reality.

If she thinks there is any significant difference between or significant moral high ground that can legitimately be occupied by Democrats or Republicans.

Make sure you add to the list women who fool men into thinking a child is his when in fact it's another man's child, then try to get courts to make the man who is not the father pay. Also add to the list, women who cheat on their husbands and then want to take his child from him because, somehow, even though she cannot be…

Not quite. Eat for weight control. Exercise for fitness and flexibility. As was alluded to before, you cannot outwork your fork. So unless the exercises you have in mind are table push backs and fork put downs, it's the calorie content of the food you eat that determines your weight.

You met my ex-wife?

Wealth redistribution by government. it is antithetical to freedom.

What are you worth? Do you just expect "it" to happen? Do you expect your spouse to work hard at pleasing you, but don't have to work to please them? My ex-wife, once she was in her affair, said things like, "If you loved me, you would have known what to do." Bull feathers. Either that or she didn't really love me, after…

But one can be bored and not cheat. To me, cheating means you are not honest about it. Not being honest means not caring. One doesn't betray someone they care about. Cheating is the antithesis of caring for your spouse. In some ways, cheating is acting as if you wish your spouse was dead and gone as most marriage vows are…

It's a condition. It won't be awesome IF she gets diabetes. She's not saying she will or won't. However, obesity leads to a higher incidence of diabetes so the odds are not in her favor. I don't think JM can win here. Had she not said anything, there would be those who call her out on missing the chance to speak truth to…

My n=1 on how men view how they look goes as follows. I have a more healthy view of how I look now compared to when I was 17. I look back on photos of me when I was 17 and ask how I could have thought I was not attractive. Probably good in the long term as I may have turned out differently had I realized how attractive I…

There are some decent approximation strategies. Using your hand as a guide, if you are having a protein such as a steak or pork chop, have no more than the palm of your hand. Take away the rest for another meal. If you have a chance, compare measured portions of things like steak, fries, and other calorie dense foods to…

Is he judging those who haven't found the solution, or is he judging those who, when presented with the facts of their circumstance, put their heads into the sand and say it's not true? I believe it's the latter, those who are sticking their fingers in their ears and saying, I'm healthy this way... From my perspective, I…

Why should it matter? Logic is not impaired by gender. A dude is just as capable of making a logically sound assessment of an ad as is a woman. Opinions are not, nor ever should be off limits based on gender. That doesn't mean anyone gets to FORCE another to do something. But we are all free to have an opinion. We are not…

Avid cyclists are more likely to go with https://zwift.com/ Mount your bike on a smart trainer. Set up your mat, laptop, fan and a big screen TV and you are in business. You can upload your workouts to Strava as well.

Actually, I don't think I said anything about if they are or are not doing anything. I specifically commented on the citation of those privileges. That is a fruitless exercise with respect to addressing one's own weight. I can comment on the idea of calling out privilege without it meaning I know anything about what they…

Privilege is a societal issue. The problem is your body is not a society, it's a biological system and doesn't recognize privilege. So while we have the privilege of being able to discuss this, people are still dying (early) due to the food choices they are making. So the person who is overweight arguing thin privilege is…

I'll apologize in advance as this is being written in a bit of a stream of consciousness style. I'm writing it as a watch the video (and pausing when need be). I'll also be upfront and say that this person was jarring to me from the word go and that might color some of what I'm going to write. And no, it's not the swearing…

Dunno, I already spent thousands on a road bike. If I'm buying anything, it's an indoor trainer and zwift for the winter. I'm not the target demographic for them.
