Hi! My name is Amy, and I have not been very active in this group, but hope to change that. I joined MFP last February, and have lost 23 pounds and have been consistent in exercising six or seven days a week (I have been told that I need to because of an autoimmune disease I have.) The exercise helps tremendously. Anyway,…

Could you try to drink tea instead? It helps me just to go to bed earlier, also.

Horseradish seems to help me when I have a cold.

I have a similar problem--I make healthy choices when sick, but too much.

Others gave better advice than mine, but I'll chime in. One of my adult goals was to do one pull up. I lost 25 pounds and Nordic walk almost every day, and I can do pull ups unassisted now.

I work out at home, although I would also love to workout at a gym if I had time. Feel free to add me!

GaleHawkins, and neonoreo, will you add me to your friends? I also have AS. I had frequent iritis episodes prior to quitting dairy, and they have been able to be controlled with medication since that time. GaleHawkins, I think I should try your WOE also. Four years ago there were times when I could not walk without…

I'm in! Please add me. I'm 148 lbs, hoping to lose another 13.

Feel free to add me.

6 or 7. I Nordic walk most days, on others I bike, row indoors, rollerblade, or do an exercise video. I have some inflammation in one shoulder now and am unsure about how my activity level is affecting it. I'm 39.

Chieflrg, your explanation really makes sense. It explains why Nordic walking feels great for my shoulder. My understanding is that Nordic walking is a form of resistance training. You're right, I have been afraid to lift, but I will do it again -- I actually love it. I'm also going to talk to my rheumy about the…

Hi! I've been a little overweight my whole adult life, started MFP in February, lost 25 lbs, and want to lose 10-15 lbs more. I have a healthy BMI now, but want to improve my eating a bit. I studied nutrition in college also but sadly haven't current. Please add me as a friend.

Thanks for the awesome advice, skram01! I'm going to re-learn how to knit tomorrow and make some washclothes while I'm in the car. I put several audiobooks on our iPad to listen to as well. Thanks for your tips, SpiritedEagle! I haven't thought of using rotisserie chicken before, but my family loves it, so that is a great…

I cook 21 meals a week at home, mostly from scratch. We have a large garden and apple orchard, and I even grind the wheat to make flour for bread. If I would eat intuitively, I am sure I'd gain back the weight I've lost.

Please add me.

3 mile Nordic walk and stretch. Felt great!

Mom23mangos, I love your response! Thank you! I wish I had adopted such an attitude at a younger age.

You can add me. I'm a mom of 6 and also have an open diary.

Aldi has Elevation protein bars that I think are delicious.

As a female, you're not going to bulk accidentally @Davidsdottir @sardelsa Again, Starting strength is pretty much the gold standard for basic strength programs.
stannman, Thank you for sharing this. I didn't realize in your first post about Starting Strength that it's a program. I'm looking more into this now.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have a different idea now of what I'd like to do, and more questions. What I would like to do is switch out the cardio workout, and instead do a 45 minute strength training session, two or three times a week. If I have time at the end of the days that I strength train, I will do some…

I nordic walk most mornings.

AnnPT77, that was awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your helpful response. We live about 30 minutes from the Mississippi River and would like to get into rowing as well.

stanman571 said: 4.5 mph is in that weird speed zone where walking calories begin to depart from the standardized formulas. That being said, unless you weigh well over 200 lbs, you're probably not burning 450 even at that pace.
Hi stanman, If you have time, could you explain this weird speed zone to me? I'd like to…

Hi Crochetmam...I do my workouts at home. I walk, do Fitness Blender workouts, and bike sometimes. I feel sad that I don't have time to go to the gym because I love going to the gym, but at least this way my kids see me working out and I'm a good example in at least that way.

Hi Beth! I'm Amy, also a Minnesota mom like YogiLife2018. I started MFP this past winter and have lost 20 pounds with about 20 to go. I walk, bike, or row every morning so that I can eat about 1800 calories a day. So far I have lost a pound a week, which is what I'm aiming for. I have a lot to learn and hope that I can get…

Thank you, sijomial. Bummer, I was hoping I was actually burning that much on walks, and was validated by the success in weight loss. But it's good to know so that I can keep losing. I'm not very large nor is there any elevation change. I do walk with poles but have never been able to figure out how much that adds for…
