  • April start weight: 163. EOM weight: 155. Open to suggestions on how to lose the weight. I have been trying to lose weight for over a year with little success. I do a good job of exercising (rowing, Nordic skiing, running, strength) six days a week. I eat a healthy diet but too much food. I stay up too late, don't get…
  • I have a friend who is an elite level classic cross country skier (I love to ski as well, but am not elite.) My friend uses a SkiErg in the off season for training. FWIW, she does also rollerski. I don't know which one is better, but I know she highly recommends the SkiErg. I also have a C2 rower and love it!
  • I'm getting advice from an ophthalmologist who specializes in the inflammatory eye disease that I have. It is threatening my vision, and the most interesting research happening right now on this disease is on the gut microbiome. I don't understand as well as I'd like to how nutrition interacts with the microbiome. I…
  • You can friend me! I need the support, too.
  • Same here! I have about 15 more pounds to lose, already lost 20. Feel free to add me.
  • @themedalist, thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I do feel better. Going to bed on time has the following benefits: I am able to ward off late-night snacking, my morning workout is better because it is done before my kids wake up (no interruptions), and I usually get enough sleep. I feel rushed and behind all day if I…
  • Update: Its been a busy month so far, and many late nights have reinforced my desire to reach the goal of an early, consistent bedtime. I have finally accomplished it three nights in a row! I've been setting little time goals at night to see how quickly I can get my tasks done. This helps a lot. Hopefully I can continue as…
  • Yesterday I did two rowing workouts, totalling 30 minutes.
  • @ritzvin , thank you for your response. I don't have any type of asthma that I know of, but when it is cold like this and I ski (high intensity), I do have coughing fits. Yesterday I was coughing like mad. I did not notice my aerobic capability decrease, but have been extremely tired since I got done skiing. I normally ski…
  • I have always had broad shoulders--the limiting factor in buying any shirt, dress, or jacket has always been my shoulders. However, in the past year I've lost a little over 20 pounds. I do lift about 3 times a week and the cardio that I do every day (nordic walking and skiing) is also working my shoulders. With that modest…
  • Canned peaches mixed with pepitas
  • @AnnPT77 and others, I'm going to print out all of your suggestions and post them next to our rowing machine to look at while I'm rowing. When I row, especially if I row hard, I get raw (chafed) skin on my butt. I tried to look up on the forums what can be done about that, but have had no success yet. I do put lubricant on…
  • Thank you for letting me be a part of this challenge, and for your encouragement! You are an awesome group! 1. This January I will go to bed each night by 10:30. 2. The small actions I’ll be taking to accomplish this goal: -ask my husband to help (especially getting kids to bed on time) -ask my kids to help (cleaning up…
  • I found my hiking boots! They worked great. I used my nordic walking poles with snow tips, and they were helpful since the trails were pretty bumpy. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to go again tomorrow. @Tacklewasher, cross country skiing is just about my favorite thing to do.
  • Thank you, @mburgess458, @AnnPT77, @GoodLaurdy, and @aokoye! I imagine my technique is terrible. I went through the Concept 2 beginner videos, printed off their instruction form for technique, and watched some videos from DarkHorseRowing on youtube. I received and followed advice given on this forum when we bought the erg,…
  • I wish I could do the opposite. I've lost weight and am mostly happy with how my body looks, but my face still looks fat.
  • My goals for tomorrow: stay under calorie goal, eat one serving of sweets, get a good snowshoe workout, and shovel snow.
  • For me, the biggest difference came with daily exercise. I still feel worse any day that I don't get a good, sweaty workout in. I went from a BMI of about 27 to 23 now.
  • I love to mix pepitas with canned peaches. How about other fruits?
  • @themedalist, great job with your activity for the week! This week was a good learning experience for me. I went to bed on time only one night out of seven. What I realized this week is how often I react to stress by choosing activities that are unhealthy for my body. For example, one night this past week I received…
  • Is the book The Gifts of Imperfection a good one for a perfectionist to read? I'm going to try to reserve it if it's available on audio. At this stage in life I don't have time to sit down and read. @77tes, great job with the sewing! Wow! This week has been stressful--on top of an expected busy week, my daughter got sick…
  • Last week I tried to implement my new 10:30 bedtime. I made the goal 3/7 of the nights. On the other nights, I was sometimes close, but each morning woke up early enough to get a workout before my children awoke. I didn't get up in time on Friday, but gave that to myself as my rest day since it was jam-packed (as was…
  • Yesterday I did a Dirty 300 Challenge. It was tough! 50 burpees, Jack knife crunches, squat jumps, thigh slaps, and one legged dips.
  • Please add me. I'm 5'7" and 148. I've lost 24 pounds and would like to lose about 10 more.
  • 77tes, thank you for sharing your understanding. It has been depressing at times. I have been thinking about volunteering at the library, and also have been wanting to take a 5 am spinning class that meets at the high school. I LOVE spinning class and group exercise, but it'll be a struggle to get up that early, and the…
  • I think I should change my December goal. My reasons for doing this are that it IS the busiest month for many people (not a great time for making new friends) and that most of the minigoals I set are ones that I'm already doing. Also, I have another habit that I need to work on as it is impacting my health more than my…
  • My social goal is going well for the most part. I have been talking or texting with my mom most days and enjoying that. I have made plans for each week of the month to get together with a friend or friends (last week went ice skating with two groups of friends.) I have also contacted at least a friend a day, and realized…
