Whew. I saw this and wondered what deadly microorganism was involved! So it was just a label issue. I never trust labels for such things and can't eat a whole L&L cookie anyway, so I always break into pieces and weigh the pieces. Most big cookies are simply not that uniform. Same for a lot of pastries, but I always weigh…

Practically vegan (vegetarian with dairy and egg allergies). Can eat 1 or 2 ounces of cheese occasionally but can live without it.

You can make pasta in a microwave, so you might ask if they provide them in the rooms. In my old 500 W microwave, I heat up a cup of water for 4 minutes in a Pyrex measuring cup, then add 2oz dry pasta. Cook for 4 minutes for wheat, 3 minutes for non- wheat. Stir and cook for another 4 or 3 minutes. Stir and taste to see…

I consider peanut butter as good food - it contributes protein, fiber, and good fat. I would advise not worrying about higher fat for the day if it is coming from plant foods rather than animal foods. All fats are not alike. Peanut butter has always been very safe for me (I have food allergies, so that's important!). I now…

Avocado freezes very well. I mash up a Haas avocado with some lemon juice and put half in a zip sandwich or snack bag, flatten it out to get air bubbles out, and seal. Can stack them in the freezer. Bring out about 20 minutes before you want to eat it and it will thaw fine at room temperature. You also can freeze larger…

There are many varieties of rice to try. I really like brown basmati rice - smells like popcorn while it cooks and tastes a little like it also. It tastes fine to me all by itself. So experiment. Also try blends with wild rice or quinoa or millet. As long as it's a good brand, you can use white or brown rice although I…

I find it hard not to get enough protein when eating vegan... So it must not be that hard. Check out this site run by a registered dietician and aimed at vegan eating: jacknorrisrd.com He has a huge article on Protein somewhere in the archives, going into it amino acid by amino acid, that also has a calculator to give…

You are not going to mess up your metabolism or lose your hair averaging 1500 calories per day... really. That's a lot of food. That's actually my recommended calorie budget at my healthy ideal weight. I think it's fine to be inconsistent with calories from day to day and very normal. A range is normal. The food databases…

If you want something already mixed in a bottle, Vega (sweetened with coconut sugar and stevia) and Orgain (sweetened with erythritol and stevia) both have options for protein drinks. Haven't tried them yet but did buy some to try. So I have high hopes....

Forgot to give protein shake ideas rather than just what to look for on labels including stevia.... I like Lifetime' Life's Basics Plant Protein line, in particular the unsweetened vanilla Plant Protein (rice protein, pea protein, hemp seed, chia seed the amino acid profile is equivalent to egg). No sweetener added…

I have the same problem (hate stevia, hate artificial sweeteners). Alas, my usual solution is to drink stuff made with cane sugar.... They can usually be diluted with water, except cola doesn't work so well that way. But fruity drinks can often be heavily diluted and it seems to just bring out the taste. Spicy drinks can…

Did you have a birthday recently? My tracker lowers my budget with each passing year.... I found it easier to just enter my ideal weight and say I wanted to maintain. That way, the weight loss rate just slows down naturally and no surprises when the goal weight is reached, you're already eating properly to maintain that…

I like to make popsicles out of flavored bottled nondairy milks or protein shakes or any concoction I make myself in a vitamix with or without protein powder. Can use fruit juice or combine cut up fruits and just add them into the mold and then add juice or water to fill in the gaps also. There are fancier recipes for…

I'm a chemist and have not been impressed with the studies the "soy is bad" folk cite. So unless you are sensitive to soy yourself (allergy or intolerance), I wouldn't worry about it. Animal studies tend to be bad science in general. Thinking about its risk in certain diseases keeps shifting also, although fermented soy…

I rarely drink soy milk any more, but liked the chai and cappuccino flavors in the Svelte line and sometimes the banana one. It was handy when I needed to get to work on something right away. But they are really nice for making popsicles. Chocolate can be nice for that also if in the mood for a fudgesicle. My molds are…

I like Lifetimes' Life's Basics Plant Protein, Unsweetened Vanilla. Based on rice protein, pea protein, hemp seed, and chia seed plus vanilla. The chia seems to give it a bit of sweetness even if made in water and also makes it possible to make some pudding from it... it does thicken quickly. I like to mix it with banana…

I like shredded cabbage or broccoli slaw. I eat a lot before I add any dressing... But just some simple egg-free mayo or gloppy tahini can do it for me. Also if not in the mood for lettuce, just cut up other veggies and enjoy by themselves, such as English cucumbers, radishes, sweet bell peppers (or green if you like),…

I don't know about the IP protocol, but I not only can't eat very much when hit by chronic pain episodes, my willingness to prepare and clean up after meals vanishes.... I started tracking food again during such a prolonged period just to make sure I was getting enough protein. I actually could, even eating essentially…

Just remember to go big with the salad, not small.... My idea of a salad fits just barely inside a 7-cup Pyrex bowl. Splurge and fill it up with your favorite greens and raw veg and maybe beans or other protein food. You really can make a meal out of a "salad" that way.

Try just not adding oil when you roast veg. I noticed that Green Giant sells roasted broccoli that is just broccoli, no oil or salt, and I love it. So I tried roasting veg myself that way, and it works fine. If you want oil or salt on them, you can always add what you want when eating it. But taste first to make sure you…

Nutritional yeast has a cheesy flavor. Very nice on popcorn... plenty of ideas on the web about what to do with it. I would recommend just trying a little at a time until you figure out what works for you. I used to get nutritional yeast in a huge tub (the empty is used as a waste basket) because I had cats who loved it.…

I never have figured out what to do with cookie butter (I like the original Biscoff), it doesn't seem to work with any of the crackers I have or with any bread. So of course I do the sensible thing and eat it off the spoon. Works for me.

I don't think I've ever met a nut or seed butter I didn't like.... Or legume butter (peanut, soy such as Wow Butter, even something made from golden peas called No Nut Butter). My habit is pricey, but I don't eat much at once. I currently have on hand little jars of pistachio butter, walnut butter, hazelnut butter, pecan…

I've had medical issues the past few years and minimize prep time as much as possible. My energy has to go toward paying work. But when younger, I used to cook up batches of rice and millet and baked white/sweet potatoes, zucchini, pasta, etc., for example, and portion them into 1-cup glass Pyrex bowls with tight lids.…

Not gonna lie, I don't think the words "diet" or "low fat" belong in the same sentence with "ice cream".... But I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners or the ubiquitous stevia. But I find if I just eat half the recommended portion (1/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup), not only do my pricier non-dairy Ben&Jerry's etc. last…

I can't eat their ice cream (allergies) but I can and do eat their roasted broad beans (aka fava beans) occasionally. Very tasty and not too bad in sodium. Nice protein and fiber boost for me. One ounce is typically about 100 calories, 130 mg sodium, 5 grams fiber, 7 grams protein. Your needs may differ, but for me - their…

If food sources don’t appeal, NOW Foods has a reasonable 50 billion mix of probiotics. Nature’s Way has a good one (Primadophilus) with much lower numbers. These are dairy-free, since I have trouble with ones containing whey. You can actually make yoghurt at home from nondairy milks and can even get nondairy starter if…

If for you and the kids but you want something besides a quick sandwich, having microwaveable bags of rice and veggies and easy protein (canned beans, cheese for example) would only take a few minutes to toss together. Uncle Ben’s and Seeds for Change have nice ones. They say two servings, but I get four servings out of…
