  • The restrictions are obviously not arbitrary if you require them for your medical conditions but those restrictions have nothing to do with you losing or gaining weight. Since you asked for opinions, here is mine: buy a food scale and use it. Measurements like "1 cup" or "1 sandwich" are not exact even if they come from…
  • I don't understand people who feel that everything they put into their mouth has to be "clean" or "whole" or "healthy". I also don't understand the other end of the spectrum who feel that anything green is "gross" or "nasty" and all they will eat is fast food or greasy food (just in moderation). I don't think any genuinely…
  • Oh it's outstanding, you should try it. I also have a go-to avocado egg salad if you like; one avocado peeled, pitted and diced 3 hard boiled eggs peeled and diced 1 tsp of lemon or lime juice 1 tbs chopped cilantro 2 tbs plain greek yogurt Salt and pepper to taste I never considered it for tuna salad, though I've no idea…
  • Wow! You look amazing! Great job, girl.
  • @cee134 nice profile pic, I have that light on the shelf next to my PC.
  • Hi Leigh, welcome to MFP :) I know weight watchers works for some people, but it's not for me. Neither is paleo though. As you say, I prefer to simply fuel my body with what it needs to perform and fit it into a moderate calorie deficit. I find myself happier when I can indulge in a treat, or have a heavy carb day when I…
  • Commas are important. Meanwhile, she's not wrong. The body gives the same cues for thirst as hunger, and we tend to only recognize it as hunger and so we reach for the snacks. It's probably how we all ended up on MFP counting calories in the first place. If you're eating filling foods and you have hunger pangs, try water…
  • I would suggest that if you're serious about eating healthier, you have to make yourself a priority. That means scheduling time to shop, and time to prepare meals (even if you prep them in advance). If you can cook sheet pan fajitas, you can cook other simple meals with wholesome ingredients. There are loads of those on…
  • I think estrogen levels could play a factor in your desire to be active, or a tendency to overeat. Honestly though, if you're weighing your food and you're at a genuine deficit, then no, I don't for one moment think that your hormone levels are preventing weight loss. It's far more likely looking at your diary entries,…
  • Well it was easy to misunderstand, I did too. It seemed like you were mocking the support system here by downplaying it into a popularity contest: But as you didn't intend to offend, then no worries. This isn't like facebook where the drama llama regularly makes an appearance on a newsfeed. At least, my newsfeed isn't. I…
  • This. Plus sometimes when I'm feeling a little lazy, I log on and see twelve people logging exercise, and a buncha folks logging lost weight and I'm being a sloth. So sometimes it motivates me to get up and get it done when I'd otherwise talk myself out of it. It's a personal preference really, like open or closed diaries.
  • What is available to you at work? Do you have a refrigerator or microwave? I will often freeze leftovers from dinner into single servings and take those with me to work when I need a quick nutritious lunch, but it relies on your being able to reheat them. Sometimes I will make an entire meal just to portion it out and…
  • Mine is open, though some of my meals are logged as recipes. I cook and prep at home after carefully weighing ingredients so if you add me and wonder about a recipe, just shoot me a message and I'll share.
  • Sometimes a descriptive word helps clarify ambiguous entries. "orange" may pull up a thousand orange flavored things from fruit to sherbert, but adding "fruit" will pull up more viable options.
  • Same. It's so vexing, I couldn't even log my water. I tried to add it, but it doesn't actually ever stick. I tried clearing my cache and all, but nothing is helping.
  • Time. You can't expect results in 2 weeks. The first week generally has a woosh of excess water weight (prolly your 2 pound loss) and then you have to just keep doing the right things. Make sure your goals are realistic for the amount you have to lose - maybe .5 to 1 pound per week, then weigh and measure your food and eat…
  • Hi Andrew :) There are a lot of helpful threads in the Getting Started forum that may answer many of your questions. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads#latest I've sent you a friend request, and I'll be happy to help with anything I can. Welcome to MFP!
  • As has been said, taste is subjective. Also, not everyone is tolerant to dairy products so products without dairy are the only way they can have "ice cream". So that's probably why a lot of people can stand the stuff. Not me though. I just like eating a pint of ice cream and not breaking the calorie bank for the day. Plus,…
  • Please don't overlook this sentence. It's easily as important as every bit of good advice from @estherdragonbat and @quiksylver296 Don't try to fence your health into the unrelenting and unforgiving calendar. You have the rest of your life to strike the right balance. The key is to do a little better, every day, forever.…
  • If you're certain that your food weights are accurate, perhaps consider consulting your physician to make sure you don't have a medical issue causing the weight loss. I wouldn't suggest this for a week or two's worth, but six weeks at a steady drop when you know you're eating at or above maintenance might be some…
  • ^this. I've spent a very very long time feeling ashamed and hiding my body and my eating habits. That way, it was easier to lie to myself. I'm completely transparent here, it's a safe zone. Anyone can look at my diary and comment on it if they please. I will just refer them to the blunt disclaimer on my profile if they…
  • I raised three, and I always felt like that WAS exercise :/ Mine are grown now, but I'll tell you one thing, I dunno how big your kids are but they make pretty good free weights :D
  • For me, I find if I don't get at least a quarter of my daily protein goal for breakfast then I get the same kind of cravings. If I do breakfast with plenty of filling things (fats, protein, or fiber) then I usually don't even think about food till lunch time. I'm not saying that it will be the same for anyone else but I…
  • Hiya Rory. I did the same thing not so long ago. I'm almost 2 months in, and now with a normal fasting blood sugar. Watching your intake and fueling your body with what it needs instead of what the heart wants can and will turn it around for you. Good first steps, keep up the good work!

  • I'm Joy, 42, single, female, and a player of the video games. My preferred platform is PC, but I've been seen on everything from an original gameboy to an Atari 2600 to a PS4 and pretty much everything in between. I love to collect vintage consoles and games, but I'm not quite geeky enough to store them in display cases…
  • I'm not sure the point of this thread is compassion. I'm not sure the point of this website/app is compassion. The point is self-accountability. If someone needs guidance because they aren't losing weight, there are more than enough people here who are willing to impart their hard-won wisdom, guide that person, even mentor…
  • ^this. It's what I had this morning, it's also amazing. You can toss a couple tablespoons on your salad, your burger, in your hummus, on your pizza, really there's no wrong way to use it. I just normally use it like I would any other cheese ^^
  • This sums it up perfectly. You need to create a calorie deficit. How you choose to do that is up to you, there are no wrong ways unless the way you choose to do it isn't sustainable for the rest of your life.
