I happen to agree! I am a prefect for said house this term and... you and I are old friends. We were in Slytherin together in the first term :p

Fellow Harry Potter nerds: If you're looking for a motivating fitness challenge centered around Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the term 21 application is now open to the public. Please know that you can join in regardless of your goal (lose, gain, maintain) and it's a ton of fun! We'd be most pleased to see…

For many people, fats and proteins are satisfying. It's really the reason keto works at all. It's far easier to create a calorie deficit when you feel full. That said, anyone can create a calorie deficit (and get enough fat and protein to feel full) without eliminating specific foods, so the only real factor is: Will you…

It's been one week without a loss. Darlin' you may as well settle in, this is one long roller coaster ride. You'll have weeks where the scale won't move, weeks where it goes backwards, and weeks where you swear you must be melting away. Stop trippin. It takes time. Follow the process - plan the meal > weigh the food > eat…

Same here. I like food (obviously) and I can eat all of the foods I like with the only restriction being portion size so that the calories I consume are fewer than I burn. It's simple, I'm never hungry, and I'm steadily losing weight at a reasonable pace.
-
If you set a reasonable goal (losing, maintaining, or gaining) and you accurately weigh and log everything you consume, and you give enough time for your body to change, then you will be successful. If you're unrealistic in your goals, you guess at how much you put on your plate, and are impatient to get to the finish…

Be honest and realistic about your food intake, don't be too strict, and remember that there's no rush. Good luck and welcome, new girl!

Well said. I think most people generally have good reasons for their "no"s. In the spirit of this thread, I just said "no" to some offered ice cream. "No" of the "later" variety, since I plan to have some ice cream tonight after I work out.

Your body doesn't really differentiate sugar from fruit versus refined sugar. It won't have an effect on whether or not you develop diabetes, that's a myth. Type 1 diabetes is purely genetic, and has nothing to do with your sugar intake or the source from which you get that sugar. Type 2 is also genetic buy lifestyle…

I want to like it, say it's inspiring, and insightful too but the forum just said NO to multiple choices!

@amgreenwell You never say no to nuts or chocolate? That's awesome. Sometimes I have to because they don't fit into my day. I like it when I can reserve some calories for a nice bit of chocolate after dinner though! Today, I said NO to ordering out with my coworkers. I ate my prepped and measured lunch instead :)

Wow there's a lot of angst in this thread. I believe this is the crux of your issue. You admit that you don't accurately weigh your food, and you don't log everything you consume. You could easily wipe out and exceed a daily deficit doing this. I used to not weigh food either, but I also found myself unconsciously trying…

Yeah it's worth it, you should give it a try. (also, I may have a few thousand hours invested in Skyrim lol)

This is all the basic advice you need. Eat the things you like within your goal and don't make it too complicated. The only thing I might add is not to get too aggressive with the loss. If you go at it trying to drop 2lbs a week, you may find it a little too restrictive. Go for .5lb a week and stick to it and before you…

One doesn't gain weight because they've been starving themselves. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a mathematical equation: Consumed calories - burned calories= result. If you eat more than you burn, you gain. If you eat less than you burn, you lose. Consider opening your diary so people can take a look at what you're…

Same, but I've been clean and sober from WoW for almost a year now. I'm currently modding and playing Skyrim SE, pokemon-planet, and 7 days to die.

^ this. Don't make it hard. ETA: Having friends will not keep you in your calorie deficit. It is not "all because not having people around you to motivate you". Blaming your lack of discipline on everyone else not motivating you is a recipe for failure. OP has motivation or she wouldn't be logging or trying at all. She…

It's funny you should mention this, because when I make PB toast for breakfast, typically I place the toast on the scale, tare, and then add the PB directly to the toast until i reach my preferred grams. I did this for 2 pieces this morning and prior to the tare, I noticed a difference of 3 grams between the two slices of…

Welcome Brittany. Your story is very familiar to me, it sounds a lot like my own. What you need to remember is that you're accountable only to yourself. No one else is going to be able to browbeat you into this, you said yourself "I wasn't ready to lose". You are ready now, so hold yourself accountable. If however, you'd…
-
I agree with @RAinWA Why the sprint? With so little to lose, there are more pleasant and sustainable ways to get there.

Honestly sugar or no sugar, you have to cut calories. If you choose to do that by cutting out excess sugar, be mindful that you still have to hit a caloric deficit or you will not lose fat. If extra sugar is what's putting your calories over-maintenance levels, then cutting it out will work provided that you don't replace…

Some good advice here. I think a lot of people make the error of going into weight loss like it's an event. It's not an event, it doesn't have a start or an end. It's a matter of getting healthy whether that takes a few months or a few years. I get that we have events in our lives that we'd like to be able to fit into a…

Welcome :) My philosophy is to strive to do a little better every day, forever. Take it one day (or one meal) at a time, and you got this.
-
I'm just going to be honest here. You're going to get a lot of replies about logging honestly, weighing your food, exercise calories - how you calculate them and how many you eat back, and all of this is good advice. Weighing and measuring and being brutally honest are key. You'll also get a lot of nonsense about eating at…

CIV II was and still is one of my favorite ways to burn a whole day away, lol
-
I think you've gotten the best advice possible already. Reevaluate your rate of loss. I have a lot of weight to lose (>100lbs), and could probably safely set my goal at 2 pounds per week, but I don't. Turns out I like to eat. So I set it at 1 pound per week, and if some days I feel satisfied with a few hundred calories…

There's no benefit. Clearly, she's being punished.

This. Also, consider open your diary if you want advice. I don't know anyone who eats the exact same thing at the precise same calorie count every single day, so offering a list of your typical meals is less informative that allowing us to see your logged entries.

If I'm going to splurge, I will splurge on a meal, not a whole day. 7000 calories is enough to undo 2 weeks worth of discipline. No thanks. I'll tell you what though, I like pizza days just the same as anyone. I can burn extra calories through the week and bank those against an extra slice or two of pizza on Saturday, but…
