My check-in saying for the day" "Exploration leads to accomplishment. All of it begins at the beginning, with the first small & scary step." ~ Julia Cameron ~ My goal here is to gain health. I used to think I had an issue with food, but the issue is with ME!! My relationship with myself. Food is just the substance I use to…

I just watched a 10 min YouTube video entitled, "The Best Explanation of Addiction I've Ever Heard" ~ Gabor Mate ~ I have no idea how to link it here so if anyone is interested it is a good watch. This is an amazing man and has so much compassion for addicts. Although he highlights drug use mostly, it applies to any…

"To be is not a choice, but the way you feel about it certainly is." Deepak Chopra I made a delish lasagna with cabbage leaves instead of pasta noodles...I've substituted the noodles with zucchini or eggplant before & found the cabbage is quite delish as a sub. I quarter the cabbage & cook the leaves till tender...I also…

Perhaps the savoring and mindfully eating your snack is of the most value. Enjoying is key cause then you are aware of eating as opposed "scarfing" which is mindlessly shoving food down your throat without even realizing you ate it...at least that is in my case.

I got the first of a few bottles of wine from a client today that are gifted to me through the holidays. My friends husband died a few days ago...he had been sick & battling prostate cancer for a few years & now his battle is over. SO, I re-gifted the wine to my friend and dropped it off this evening. She is a moderate…

THAT is disturbing!! :'( @RubyRed427 I must have missed your milestone...Congrats 100 days...you GO girl!!

@donimfp YAY on 161 days!! <3 I can relate to the aging thing...it's like it sneaks up and then blam your old on the calendar, but don't feel old inside!! It IS just a number cause I like to think of each day when I get feeling kinda frieked out about getting older...I just figure we only get to live one day at a time…

Some words of wisdom for this day: "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." ~Carl Bard~ We can make this happen...Hope everyone has a good evening!

@FeelinFooFoo <3 50 DAYS <3 Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @Beka3695 :'(

Interesting that you mentioned @Whitpauly cause I think of her often. I messaged her on June 25 with no reply back...not long after that I checked her on my friend list and she hadn't signed in for awhile (not sure of specific time period, but it was a length of time, months if I vaguely remember correctly) I just checked…

Good Day to All: My emotional eating app saying today is "When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them." ~ Confucius ~ I was wondering how I can apply that to my eating issue, hmmmm? I suppose it could relate it to unhealthy ways I developed of coping with stress, sadness, anxiety and other uncomfortable feelings by…

Each pound of 20 lbs is an awesome goal...picture each pound lost in terms of a pound of butter!! 20 lbs of butter is a LOT of butter. That is a lot of relief on your joints. As for you 'choosing' the cookies rather than allowing the cookies to 'choose' you OR not feeling like you'll have the control over how many cookies…

I've been AF for 2.5 years thank you in large part to this supportive group. I also watched YouTube videos re: alcohol abuse, such as Craig Beck & Annie Grace to name a couple. Up to that point I had stopped drinking for varying lengths of time, but as time progressed it got harder to do longer stretches without my…

@wiigelec Glad you didn't die and that you found us. <3 I can relate to your experience. I also had an early start to my drinking career...I had my first drink at my sisters wedding at 13. I was one of her bridesmaids and remember sitting on the bathroom counter at her reception, drunk, bawling my eyes out about something…

I have an emotional eating app on my phone and each day it has a message to check in with. Today's is . "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning but anyone can start today and make a new ending." ~ Maria Robinson ~ SO, today is that new day. What happened yesterday, good or not-so-good, can be a lesson that we can…

Thanks @RubyRed427 for starting this group. <3 I'm in...I've been on a hiatus in the weight loss department for some time and am slowly inching my way up the scale and need some support to gain better self control with food and slowly incorporate healthier foods more consistently in moderate portions to reach my goal which…

HELLO My Lovelies :) Tis a beauty day to be alcohol free!!! I got an alert from my quit drinking app the other day and when I looked at it this morn it shows that I am half way to another important milestone in my non-drinking career which is the 3 year mark. Stats are as follows: 2 years 6 months 9 days and 3 hours (923…

Lots of reading to catch up with all you gabby gals LOL It is wonderful to see SO much activity in this group. I have read a couple of pages but have a couple more to go from last time I signed in here. WELCOME to all the newbies <3 @FeelinFooFoo thank you for the link to that updated video. I haven't watched the entire…

I saw this guy's documentary on YouTube. It was interesting to see his realization of how subtly his problem developed. At the end he chose to attempt moderation and it would be interesting to know how that has worked for him over time. The recommended weekly allowance of 14 units of alcohol aka poison interests me…

OOOPs I misread one of your previous posts...HAPPY 2 months & 3 days sober <3

Yay @RubyRed427 50 PLUS one day!!! Happy 51 AF days <3 Yay @FeelinFooFoo on 2 weeks. <3 I had a few pages of reading to catch up. @363days This IS a great thread. Very sad story you shared, but it highlights the reality of overdrinking and the hook of addiction. :'( I hope the woman who found her ex isn't plagued with…

@JenT304 <3 @RubyRed427 I hear your struggle <3 Have you gone on YouTube and searched for a video that may help with your cravings. I remember when my bro died and I had 2 bottles of wine sitting on my kitchen counter, even rinsed out a fave wine glass, but decided to search for a video & ended up watching Dick Cavett…

@RubyRed427 I didn't watch the video due to it's length but AGREED!! People do not respond to treatment unless they want to...that's why I don't think it matters what program a person chooses because they have to be ready for the change first....Whatever works for a person works because they want it to...although different…

I saw this quote today, "One reason people resist change is because they focus on what they have to give up rather than what they have to gain." Rick Godwin Focus on the benefits of an AF life, they are many, many, many as we have seen enumerated on this thread. <3

@donimfp ~ AA only has a 10% success rate...most people stop drinking on their own or with other methods so if AF subs work for you & don't trigger you, "You GO girl!!" It's all individual...no one-way fits all ;) @RubyRed427 I love your post about anxiety...it is so true that whatever feelings we are trying to temporarily…

Hello to All...YES, it does get easier...as I've said before the first year was the most difficult of this entire process...now I rarely think about alcohol and any "craving" has been a fleeting thought...almost like a knee-jerk reaction out of the blue, but I would not describe it as a temptation...I've had lots of…

Welcome back @Feelinfoofoo...glad you had a relaxing vacay! @Donimfp I'm excited for you!!!!! @MaGaOhMa Congrats and thank you for sharing your success in your healthier lifestyle.
