Count me in! I’d love to join. I NEED TO JOIN. I need some serious Accountability. I’d like to lose exactly 18.4 pounds from what I weighed on yesterday. Because "Life Happens" more often than not for me, I am hoping to reach my goal by the end of June. I will post weekly on Fridays. Best of luck to All of us!

SO, today is that new day. What happened yesterday, good or not-so-good, can be a lesson that we can carry forward as we take steps toward improved health. Happy healthy day to all! May our choices today move us all in that direction.11 -

I dipped under this for 2 days but I was not drinking enough water and was dehydrated. While I would like it to be at least 2 lbs a week, I am moving albeit slowly, in the right direction.9 -

I agree, @jan110144 , I'm not likely to maintain 2 pound losses each week. I set my goal for 20 pounds but would love for it to be more. Unfortunately, it is still Christmas time and my young kids are geared up to make cookies. I have willpower but I'm also honest about how long I can hold out on eating one or two!5 -

Welcome!! Enjoy a cookie or two. It is important to find a relationship with food that allows for healthy eating while also allowing for life's special celebrations. Btw, that is a message I have to repeat for myself over and over again as moderation is a huge challenge for me. It is much easier to an all or nothing person, but that never lasts.3 -
I'm 37 years old, married, we have a 2 year old. My goal for this challenge is to lose 15-20 lbs. 2020 starting weight was 225. My ultimate goal weight is 135-140 lbs. I'll plan for Saturday weigh ins.

@JenT304 good job. I had a larger first week loss than will be normal. If things go really well, I will be around 1.5 a week. I can't sustain 2 pounds a week, so doubtful I will lose 30 by the end of the challenge.
I lost a lot this week but I agree @jan110144 that losing 2 lbs a week isn't sustainable. Sometimes the scale only shows a tiny loss like 0.2 but, in the long run, it goes in the right direction. I also think its more important to eat and feel healthier than it is to lose a pound or two.8 -

Each pound of 20 lbs is an awesome goal...picture each pound lost in terms of a pound of butter!! 20 lbs of butter is a LOT of butter. That is a lot of relief on your joints.
As for you 'choosing' the cookies rather than allowing the cookies to 'choose' you OR not feeling like you'll have the control over how many cookies you will eat perhaps think of it this way, "(S)He is able who "thinks" (s)he is able." ~Buddha~

I was wondering how I can apply that to my eating issue, hmmmm? I suppose it could relate it to unhealthy ways I developed of coping with stress, sadness, anxiety and other uncomfortable feelings by using food to soothe myself, numb myself and distract myself. It is like being on auto-pilot and just coasting along without thinking. It becomes habit and I just do what I do without being conscious of it until my clothes get tighter & I feel really tired, sluggish etc. There is a comfort in the familiar even IF it is not what I want to do. There is a fear of letting go of the familiar, comfortable way of soothing myself even when the long-term consequences outweigh the immediate relief/release. What am I afraid of? Habit is easy-peasy. Thinking of & adopting different ways to cope requires work cause it is NOT automatic. So perhaps that is part of the fear for me is changing the way I cope. Doing the emotional work necessary to change my faulty habits into healthy habits that have long-term benefits.
Can anyone else relate?7 -

I've often read that a healthy pace for weight loss is losing one to two pounds a week. To put things in context, it's worth viewing weekly weight loss as a percentage rather than as pounds. Percentage of what?
There's at least two ways worth looking at:
1. percentage of ones current weight: Two lbs. is 1.33% of 150 lbs., but only 0.67% of 300 lbs. (1 lb. is 0.67% of 150 lbs.)
2. percentage of ones body fat (an even more radical difference):
If you have 100 lbs. of excess fat, 2 lb. is only 2% of that.
If you have 20 lbs. of excess fat, 2 lb. is 10% of that.

@jan110144 don't worry about the cookies. I once read that as long as you stick to your weight loss plan 80% of the time, you will still lose weight. If you include them in your calorie count they won't even slow you down.5

Checking in: Hope everyone's had a good week!
Update: I'm 5'2.5" - 71 years old and originally lost 49 lbs.
12 lbs regained over the last 10 months so trying to get back to my maintenance weight of 130 lbs (thank you Covid 19, no gym, and now a bad knee) I'm down 1.3 lbs. as of today and trending at 140.7. That 1.3 lbs is just water weight so now the hard work begins to keep the trend going down. Only looking to cut by .5 lb per week otherwise I get too hungry. Still getting in 20K steps per day but it's not the same as hitting the gym 3Xs per week.
I weigh in every day and then look at my weekly average weight. I find this method working for me since it smooths out all the fluctuations over the week and no freaking out over the "gains." I use a site called TrendWeight which is linked to my Fitbit.
My special challenges are controlling portion sizes, salt intake, and snacking while cooking. I'm back to measuring everything much more stringently and logging everyday again will, hopefully, get me back on track though I still want to eat ALL the food. LOL.

Before I joined this challenge, I would weigh myself every Monday. That could be bad because we go out to our favorite restaurant (outdoor dining) or order take out during the weekend. I like swiching to the Saturday weigh ins because it gives me 5 whole days to make up for the weekend "indulgences" by doing extra work outs and getting my food choices back on track.5

Oh Lordy, my neighbors brought over that totally addictive toffee bark candy..the one made with saltine crackers. It is very hard to do this dieting thing during the holidays.5

I hear you! The ONLY positive aspect of this Corona holiday season is that the number of temptations will be drastically reduced. So looking forward to a normal time next year.5 -
