30 pounds to lose challenge by March 2021

Hello! I'd love to join! I've struggle for years to maintain motivation to loose weight. I am turning 39 next weekend and I have vowed the last year of my 30's will be my year of change! I will NOT enter my 40's like this. Im only 5'4" and starting weight is 235 as of last week. I have 90 pounds to loose. Also from the midwest so baby its cold outside! I just got back from the Keys on vacation with friends. I was so uncomfortable and disappointed in myself. My two fit girlfriends were sunning in their bikinis and I just wanted to hide. Amazingly I was down a few pounds following vacation so my motivation is amped up. Im also in the beginning stages of divorce processes so 2021 is really all about change. Reading through everyone's comments and stories has been so helpful and taking on this 30 pound goal by March will make it manageable. One of goals is to get off medications and be eligible fo be a surrogate before im too old.

Have you ever made a vision board for yourself?
I make one every year. I take magazines and cut out all sorts of pictures and words that set my intention for next year. I use a glue stick and glue them in a collage format on a big paper. Write the year on it.
It's easy and simple and I believe in it!
p.s. I hate being the chubby girl amongst my friends. Like yours, they wear bikini and I feel embarrassed. But this is our year! Let's do this together!5 -

I’ve been hungry every day. I’ve seen substantial progress every day. I suspect it’s the initial weight loss swoosh others talk about. But also might need to increase daily caloric intake to help make this sustainable.
Will have five days with daughter visiting beginning tonight and plan to enjoy cooking with her. I am hoping to restrain from over indulging during this time, then right back to plan. 🤞🤞🤞
I have walked every day but one, and am trying to get in 6000-8000 steps. My bum knee seems to be tolerating this daily goal, though I’d love to be able to increase to 10000-12000 steps eventually.

These past couple weeks I've struggled with hiking in rainy weather. Turns out that braving the elements and hiking muddy trails paid off for me this week. Still, I want to try some new indoor exercise routines and I added an easy one yesterday: stairs. Drove our cats crazy by running up and down the stairs yesterday.

I'm 37 years old, married, we have a 2 year old. My goal for this challenge is to lose 15-20 lbs. 2020 starting weight was 225. My ultimate goal weight is 135-140 lbs. I'll plan for Saturday weigh ins.

This one I'm asking myself every morning when I write my goals for the day "What is it you really want? and What will you do today to work towards that goal?"

Positive mantras do work. I have to incorporate more of them in my life. Sticky notes on mirrors, etc.

I ate a filling lunch so I will have a small meal later maybe soup.
I tried to imitate the açaí bowl at Pulp this morning to save $10.
It was ok- I need to tweak somethings but another goal is to stop mindless spending on food gimmicks.

First Saturday check in! I started this week above 174 lbs and am currently at 173.6 lbs. All the Christmas treats have been tempting but I have successfully been limiting myself to a few a day. It’s a small number but a win nonetheless! I have been pre counting my calories which has been a huge help and has limited my unnecessary snacking. I’m planning to start running again next week which I’m hoping will help quite a bit. Good luck to everyone during this time and happy holidays!10

@trwhitney2627 Just don't sit while watching tv. I lift light weights and march in place. It is not the same as a 10 mile hike of course, but it is better than nothing!
Agree that posting video of you without your permission is inappropriate. As for exercise, I lift weights and march in place too. Since the gym is off limits for me because of the pandemic this helps me get to a 20k step count that I hit every day. Better than nothing for sure!
Thank you, @RubyRed427! LOL, don't be too impressed. Marching in place + low, low, impact shadow boxing + light weights is not very strenuous, mostly arm, upper body, but I'm just happy to not sit on my bum all day, which I could do very easily.
I'll weigh in on Sundays to see if I actually have made any progress toward dropping that extra 12 lbs. Here's my stats which I don't think I posted, but if I'm repeating myself, sorry. I'm old and this is what old people do.
5'2.5" - half inch very important.

Goal Weight: 130 (hit this after about 15 months) Stayed there 5 years until the Covid hit gaining 12 lbs, oops. This sucks. Back to cutting calories (want to lose .5 lb per week). I don't care how long it takes.

Phew...I did 5 mins trying to keep up and coordinate myself with their moves...OMGoodGrief...I need a beginner class....SO, I put on a 10 min beginner Zumba and low & behold, I discovered it looks much easier than it actually is to keep up to the moves, although it would help if I wasn't on carpet. SO I ended up with a different dance class. A disco dance class and then ended up dancing my own moves for 10 mins to the disco beat...LOL Then I went hunting to find something where I can just move and not have to concentrate too much on the moves. Jane Fonda has a 10 minute FIT video for people like moi. This is a beginning of moving!! I only watched it this time haha

@lorrainequiche59 Ok... I guess it is a little fast. But in Zumba there are some basic moves repeated over and over. I guess I just got used to it.

I looked at that Zumba video and didn't even try it. Instead, I searched for something for the very beginner. I found this video for seniors, and with a set of 8-lb dumbbells, it is all the challenge I can handle currently.

Good morning ! I have been doing planks nearly every day so that is a positive.
Yesterday, I started intermittent fasting. It's day 2 and I haven't eaten yet (I will at 11:00) and I am drinking tea , not coffee because I like milk in my coffee.
My friend lost 40 pounds and gained a lot of energy from IF.
Does anyone have any insight on IF? Any tips?
I am stopping eating after dinner til lunch the next day.
I'm headed to the gym right now.3 -

I'm a big guy so that's not that impressive. I use a couple of 2 lb dumbbells as well, plus a couple of 35 lb dumbbells for curls and presses. I'm no nutritionist, but I think fasting periodically, once or twice a month, can be beneficial. My personal opinion is it's not healthy to fast too much. But then, what is too much?

Been doing 2-3 of these 8 minute workouts a day... Feeling my muscles returning and supporting me again. The scale has gone up a few pounds from where I started. It’s okay, though, because I am still tracking calories and have even cut out alcohol until Feb 1st. It’s all good. The new workouts are changing my body. Next measurements ought to be better because everything is shaping up. I’ve heard a lot of positive outcomes for many people. It just may work for you.
Here’s my experience, fwiw. I tried IF for almost two months and didn’t lose any weight and it made me cranky. I did 6pm to 11am. It messed with my day/routine that I had and I found myself constantly thinking about food...waiting untiI I could eat, so my morning work suffered. After the 2nd week, my digestive system became wonky. I was regular as clockwork until IF, then I wasn’t and would go days without “going” if you know what I mean. I put up with it for the rest of the time thinking it would reset itself, but soon came to the realization IF was not a way of life for me. I prefer calorie counting and eating whatever I want, when I want, in moderation. I’ve lost that way before, but stopped counting calories, and had a case of the “I don’t cares” ...and so I start the journey again.
As for energy..I did not notice any change in energy level on IF.

30 pounds by March seems ambitious (I'm not usually losing 4 pounds in two weeks), so I'll be happy with these targets:

Major secondary goal of no loss in lean-mass, so not running too much of a deficit (my trainer had me bump up my protein and daily calorie totals a bit as muscle was slowly decreasing).6
