I regret them almost every time... just because when I'm full, the satisfaction is over and a healthy meal would have likely filled me just the same. With that said, I still have them (every week and half or so).

I started working out almost exactly 5 months ago and I've lost 30 pounds. I did not do a single minute of cardio in that time. EDIT: To answer your question... it just depends on the caloric deficit and how hard you're training. I would definitely lean towards heavier weights... but just track your calories accurately,…

Yes, detoxing is extremely effective at wasting money, time, and energy. In reality, it's best just to start by monitoring your macros/calories and working out. Consistency will pay off from there.

I do not buy organic. It's far more expensive with no measureable benefit.

As long as you're following a good nutritional plan... it shouldn't matter that you're not following the plan recommended by insanity.

There is no such thing as a gender-specific protein powder. If there is, it's just a marketing gimmick. There's tons of powders that would work great, just find the one that fits your macros and has a good taste. My favorite has been dymatize casein, it mixes well and it tastes pretty good.

I like them, and they're my preferred bar... but I don't think they justify all these threads on them. Like any other supplement, they can be used to supplement a diet quickly and easily. Forgot to prepare a meal? Protein bars can provide a good balance of protein and carbs quickly... and questbars just so happen to have…

If it's anything like the food datasbase... give it a day and there will 1 quadrillion repeats.

Applications go the other way for a sugar daddy worth having. Aspriing gold diggers are common, it's the gold that's uncommon.

In my opinion, no food is "bad." Just make sure it fits yor caloric and macro requirements. With that said, I eat builders bars every once in a while... but they're rather high calorie so I have to restrict my other meals on days when I have them.

I agree that drinking raw milk is stupid, but I disagree that it should be illegal. I don't want my money (tax dollars) being spent on preventing other people from being idiots. It affects them, not me... so it's none of my business. As part of the "none of my business" belief, if the raw milk drinkers get salmonella, e.…

According to Layne Norton, better results are seen if protein is spread evenly throughout the day. He also asserts that carbs protect muscle better than any other macro during training, so the bulk of your carbs should be taken around your workout (before, during, and after). I don't go crazy with timing it perfectly, but…

I think it will be difficult to simultaneously gain strength AND lose weight. Personally, I aim for losing weight and at least maintain my strength. Building strength will come later when I'm done losing weight.
-
I agree with try to eat the majority of your carbs pre and post workout. Carbs protect muscle better than any other macro during and after your workouts.

Any reason why you protein goal is so low? Is that the default myfitnesspal gave you?

Quest bars are probably my favorite, but unforunately... they're not very cheap (2 bucks a bar). They taste pretty good, but it's important to note that they're one solid mass of material (like a paste that has hardened)... so don't expect a snicker's like consistency like some other protein bars out there. I also haven't…

Isn't how you look that matters? I know it would be preferable to know your "actual" weight... but I'd say just stick one scale. You'll still get your trends with that... and the error will hopefully at least be consistent.

Anyone looking to do this, add me too. If I had to guess... I'm around 12%, I'm looking to get abs for the first time!

Water isn't exciting, but after drinking it "almost" exclusively over the last 3 months... you really get used to it. I'd rather not get in the habit of having to mix crap into my water to drink it. For as much as I drink, that would likely get expensive.

My wife used to judge me because my routine didn't have any cardio... until she started working out with me. I'll admit we're not getting the cardio excersise that running provides... but if you're lifting with decent intensity, it does get your heart pounding at a good rate.

NINJA EDIT I usually measure cooked meat.

I used to be a big fan of ground beef. I would scoff at my wife when she decided to cook ground turkey instead. For a while, we cooked both prettty regularly. After doing both for a while, I've found that I now prefer ground turkey over ground beef. So be careful beef fans... you just might converted too if you don't watch…

Let me start with my disclaimer that "I'm not an expert by any means," but I do research this sort of stuff constantly. In my opinion, cardio and gaining muscle are somewhat in opposition to eachother. That's not to say you can't do both, but I think your muscle gains will be somewhat hindered or slowed if you're trying to…

You're not gonna get that from a lot of cardio. That's achieved by strength training... and unless you're taking steroids, you will stay "femine."

For satisfying hunger better," casein is the way to go. Not only that, I think it tastes much better than whey. I would definitely recommend casein before bed over any of the other types of proteins. Taste-wise, Dymatize cinnamon bun and dymatize cookies and cream can't be beat in my opinion. Although syntha-6 is another…
