Saying you "Love someone to death" - I find it ghastly and it always makes me cringe. Also, in reference to euthanizing a beloved pet and saying they put the animal "to sleep" - or even worse, saying you "put the animal down." UGH! Just be direct, respectful & tactful and say you had to euthanize or even "let them go…
