  • Wow! Nice effort. Congrats on 6 months!
  • 10 weeks AF today
  • 18.5 miles bike and 1/2 mile swim - 77 minutes
  • I have a hard time keeping up with the posts if I don't check in often...but I see the drinking demon's are never far away nor are they ever at rest. They attack me at the strangest times, always when I least expect it. It is really random what the triggers are. I am also not one for quotes...But J.J. Watts (a phenomenal…
  • Seeded 3 acres of ladino clover with a hand spreader (10 feet wide spread) and burned 6 acres of warm season grasses. The burn went really well - in fact I would call it a "great burn." I am posting a picture of this "great burn" below:
  • The HAPPY SCALE app has been "in the green" continuously for 1-month and 5 days
  • @donimfp Hang in there. Your are in for a sleep treat after a few days. You will start sleeping like a teenager on a rainy Saturday morning. As for energy - hang in there again - I am breaking ALL of my records for swimming, cycling and running now that I am AF. I exercise better and recover better. FWIW - It took me a…
  • Another thing I have noticed since going AF a little over 2 months ago - When I was drinking I could stay up till whenever or I passed out on the couch at some very late time...NOW...I get tired, I mean I really-really start to get sleepy at 8:30 or so. I never-ever got sleepy when I was drinking. 8:00 was the start of…
  • @razorcut We all have our downfalls - maybe one day you can be a Cardinal fan :p
  • Younger Next Year (YNY) is defo for men and your summary is spot on. I too found it to be unimpressive...but a few parts were very good. The chapter call QUIT EATING CRAP was spot on. More exercise - also spot on. The chapter where they talked about adding weight training to the nursing home was awesome...bedridden people…
  • @RubyRed427 Good luck with the AA meetings. Back in the day I used to attend Al-Anon meetings for other reasons and I found most (sorry - but true) of the meetings to be tedious. HOWEVER, on occasion, someone would say something that would hit close to home and the time immediately before and after the meetings were…
  • Hi @Beka3695 Welcome to this thread a a great group of people. We have all had a day 1, first week, etc. the stories are all different but strangely similar. Hang tough...We are here for you!
  • We are on vacation in Clearwater Beach, FL. Every restaurant is essentially a bar that serves food. Yesterday evening was hard, but I made my wife promise me an ice cream if I was good 😎. We ended up paying close to $5 for a nestle crunch ice cream bar in the hotel because apparently ice cream shops close early around…
  • My wife and I are headed to Clearwater Florida for spring break. I hate vacationing during spring break but my wife is a high school teacher, so away we go. Happy wife = happy life. She booked a nice hotel on the beach that has a heated pool and a swim-up bar. I hope they have more options than water, diet coke and club…
  • Diet (moderation) and exercise are the way to go...although it is not a sexy gimmick, or a fad, or a book...it is sustainable for a lifetime.
  • Wow...a lot of good posts up there 👆👆👆 My wife and I stopped at a bar/grill tonight for some pub grub. She got a peach margarita...as usual I had water with lemon to celebrate my 8 weeks AF today. Temptations are still there. But I know my off switch is broken.
  • I had my first blood test since going AF. You might recall I was stoked when going AF resulted in me getting off of BP meds...I was really hoping for ALL good news. BUT - now my cholesterol is high - I mean really high - like I need to take Lipitor again high. Stopping drinking dropped my good cholesterol to make my…
  • @kevinrfletcher It sounds like you are doing great and getting things in the order you want. Day 9 - Awesome! Are you finding it easier to work out now? I am not sure if you have seen this before, but it is a good example of putting important things first...short fun video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0hqBIugr7I
  • It's weird when the drinking urges hit. I had a particularly grueling, 13 hour, work day yesterday on the banks of the Missouri River drilling borings to explore for a new bridge. The Nebraska flood waters were on the way and we had to get done yesterday as our job site would go underwater today sometime. Near the end of…
  • I got tired of making so many trips to the liquor store so I bought the huge bottles of Jim Beam. The scary thing (now) is everyone at the liquor store knew me. I can't tell you how many times I would work out at the gym, head to the liquor store, head home and get hammered. Hang in there @kevinrfletcher !!!
  • Download the app...enter your daily weight - fluctuations and all. It is a great "smoothing" tool that looks at your last few days of weight loss/gain and lets you know if you are on a losing or gaining trend. ALSO - you do NOT need to weigh every day to use this app. I weigh daily but forget to enter my weight more than 3…
  • 8 weeks ago today was my last drink...Hang in there :-)
  • 8 weeks AF tomorrow for me...you should go for a few more days. You will be in for a treat :-)
  • @kevinrfletcher I was a big bourbon guy too. Going on 8 weeks AF now. Hang tough. You are in for a treat 👍👍
  • Some of you may recall shortly after I became AF, I got to stop taking my BP meds...which was awesome. The BP meds were a diuretic and I promptly gained 7 pounds. It took a month of CICO + working out to get the 7 pounds back off. Today the needle moved into my "original goal" territory by a whopping 1.6 pounds. I am…
  • Yo! Reminder that ^^^you^^^ are entered into @NormInv's 3 month dry challenge It's never too late to enter...
  • Swimming - freestyle - fast - 60 minutes
  • @VeggieGirlforLife and @SweatsOnSunday Ha! Same - I always watched my calories and left room in my daily calories for liquor. I need to get that calorie counting mindset back on top of the "important things to do today" list!
  • @debrakgoogins - and - @rdthoms I downloaded Happy Scale. Neat graphics. Too lazy to build my own on Excel...so I will use this app.
  • I have been doing daily weigh-ins for years. Up, down, up, down, down, up-up-down, down-up-down-down, up-up-up- WTF? :p etc. You get used to it.
