  • Yeah, find another shop. That is an unacceptable expectation of the shop to expect you to throw down hundreds of dollars w/o being able to get a good feel for it. That is the kind of response I would expect from Walmart. You should be able to ride around the block or parking lot for 5 minutes or so (after having the shop…
  • My mix & match set of misc roadies. 2002 Trek 5200 (just upgraded components to R8000 Ultegra 11 speed) 2003? Pinarello Prince 2004? Bianchi Eros 2011 De Rosa Avant Prince & Avant are recent frame set acquisitions, and will slowly be pieced together over the summer. The Prince is currently getting fitted out w/ the 9 speed…

  • Awesome! I love colorful bikes. I get tired of seeing blacked out everything bikes. To each their own though, this is why they come in so many flavors and varieties. I wasn't planning on buying another bike this year either...but ended up falling for an older (2011) De Rosa frameset. So that is currently sitting in…

  • You're definitely not pathetic for wanting to try to do it. It's a worthy personal achievement goal. 8 weeks may or may not be an attainable goal, but you never know until you try. Find and work a plan then give yourself a good personal evaluation a week before the event (you don't want to do any long rides the week…
  • Yep, what all was mentioned above. My lower back would give me a some grief when I first started walking/hiking last summer. A good stretch will get you a good start, but ultimately it's a matter of strengthening those muscles which will take time. Start out small, and gradually go longer as your body allows. I started out…
  • Yeah, it’s definitely been more enjoyable than I was expecting. I’ll usually throw on an episode of GCN while I got a workout running. The 1-1.5 hour sessions are over before I know it.
  • I've been using it for the past month or so. Getting back into cycling after a long hiatus (15+ years), so utilizing it for body conditioning/weight loss for the spring. Hope to get in on some group rides this summer. Zwift is handy for getting my saddle time in mid-week due to my work schedule. Just finished working…
  • Hey hey. Still slugging along, over half way now. But I think now is where things are going to slow down...we'll see. On the plus side, I've had to move the belt 2 notches and some of my shirts are getting to be too big. It actually feels like I'm making headway, not just numbers on the screen. Week 18 check-in…
  • I just started dabbling in FFXIV a little while back. It was kinda fun messing around in a new game...but then got busy and haven't done too much gaming. I suspect I'll have more time for it over the winter as the days are shorter and the weather is less conductive to outdoor activities. My first real hook in MMOs was GW2.
  • It's gotten a little quiet around here. :o Latest "addiction"...Euro Truck Simulator 2. Though I was still able to pry myself away from the computer each day this weekend for a hike. The weather was actually cooperating...not something the PNW is known for this time of year.
  • Just manual calcs w/ a calculator. I could probably put something together on a spreadsheet if I really wanted to...but that's too much data entry.
  • Week 11 check-in (10/8-10/14): Days on or under calorie target : 7/7 days +/- Weekly calorie target (14,382) : -1085 (-7.5%) Total lbs lost/goal : 23/50 (46%)
  • I've been a bit slacking in updates, so here is another check in. Still slugging away. I've gotten one of the bikes back operational again, so I've been able to mix some cycling in w/ the walking/hiking for some variety. I also picked up an indoor trainer so I can work on getting the cycling muscles (and butt! ) back…
  • Very cool.

  • Ouch. :astonished: Every little bit up that climb would help. I'm tempted to play around with my gearing to see if I can squeak a 32 in. Tricky part for me is my bike has older 9spd components so it may be a bit harder if I try to avoid going the MTB derailleur route. Just swapped to an Ultegra compact (50/34) and still…
  • Very nice. It'll be awhile before I even think about tackling something like that (just got back on the bike after a 15 year hiatus). I've been over Washington Pass a few times, in the car though. What's you're gearing on the Cervelo? Nice bike by the way.
  • Stumbled across these on a cycling channel I've started following the other day. I haven't sampled any of them yet so I can't personally vouch for them. But some do look tempting and I think I'll have to try at least a couple of them. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUdAMlZtaV10M-qg0pvGQ9nbYjNVo4byn
  • Good luck Ali. Bad shoulders suck.
  • Truth! I'm currently working on getting my old hardtail & road bike back into service (it's been too long). With a bit of luck I'll have the road bike back in service this weekend (compact crankset shows up today), then I can start tearing into the mountain bike. I've also been contemplating getting into the full suspender…
  • I'm envious of you gym types. For whatever reason I can never bring myself to go to the gym. So rather than throw money away there I try to find other avenues of activity. I've been walking/hiking 2-3 times a week for the past few months. Last week I got a wild hair and decided to drag out the old bikes (both mountain and…
  • Welcome newbies! You got this.
  • Coffee!!! The liquid of life.
  • Thread bump! Still progressing. Got a couple walks in this week. Also taking the plunge into rehabilitating the bikes and getting them back into service (road & mountain).
  • Hmm, sounds interesting. May have to check it out.
  • Just ordered some parts (hyd disc brakes) to update the old mountain bike ('00 Trek 8000). I'll be snagging a new Manitou suspension fork for it while I've got it apart. Need to knock the dust and cobwebs off it. It's probably been sitting in a corner for the better part of the past decade. I've considered a new bike, but…
  • Yeah, the food diary is awesome. It's helped me a lot.
  • Set intermediate goals while keeping an eye on the big picture. Climbing a plateau still feels like an accomplishment, even if it's only 1/10th of the way up the mountain. Nothing is unattainable if it's taking in small manageable bits.
  • On a 5mi post-work hike.
