  • No "trainers" at all. If you work out for a living, maybe. But as a rule, when a guy thinks i should pay him for his opinion, he can keep it. Way more than enough free information out there to move you along until you can "feel out" your own path.
  • Just can't beat a gym for cold weather locations. Group workouts, or classes, indoor pool since you like to swim, ... I enjoy weight training, but not everybody does. Walking down the street is better xercise than walking on the treadmill, but it's nice for rain and snow days (or snow WEEKS)
  • I don't do a 1-rep max because I like my ligaments. But after lifting for a few months I'm certain that bench, squat, and deadlift obove my body weight is simple enough.
  • Shoot... Was you askin' just the girls? :D
  • Strength training shiuld have a day between workouts. You could do upper body exercises tomorrow, take a day off, then legs again day after that. As a rule, new to weight lifting means 3 days per week, or max 4 days per week (lower body, upper body, rest, lower, upper, rest, rest).
  • Actually, I don't want anything. Strange that people continue to post. Perhaps to "prove" .... Something? Anvilhead ... Search "grilled chicken breast" and see how many results you get. Then narrow it as suggested to "grilled chicken breast usda" and note how many you STILL get. And note that vastly different numbers all…
  • I clicked a link. It said 5'9" and 170 is obese. I said that can't be right. Not sure how "we" got to CDC and the weight of chicken breast. But, such are forums I suppose.
  • Can you hear me in the back?@! My waist size is unacceptable, hence the calorie count. What has that to do with a "calculator" that says a 5'9" 170 lb guy is obese? That's ridiculous, but then so is the idea that I replied AGAIN!
  • That doesn't sound right. If you need 1500 calories to "maintain" an office job, and you burn that off in a day of largely mild to no activity, that's 1500/24 hours = 62 calories per hour. I doubt that strenous exercise burns only slightly more. But I would believe that what some CALL strength training wouldn't burn much.…
  • Hey, Roy! Lots of folks don't seem to grasp that weight lifting can be be exercise - not everybody wants to be a "weightlifter". And around here, it appears some have become really good at repeating what they saw somebody say. If you want to do a few exercises, I would recommend opting for an overhead press, a squat, and…
  • 2-3 mins is quite a while between pressing. How many sets does that let you get in during 90 mins?
  • Don’t know what link you clicked, but MFPs BMI calculator puts 5’9 170lbs as just overweight. That was my point, that the calculator on the link must be screwy. No matter. I checked in to track some calories, since I never have ever done that, just eat what I like and I'm fine if not medicated and diet mandated by doctors.…
  • Wait... You mean after buying all this new clothes, now I'm going to get taller and have to shop AGAIN?@!
  • Is anybody concious here? More slowly... Today I signed up. Clicked on bmi calc link FROM HERE. That calc says that somebody 5'9" tall and weighing 170 (77kg) is OBESE. I DIDNT SAY IT, the calc said it, why I thought was surprising and the reason I commented. Is that clearer?
  • There ya go... According to that bmi calc, Matt Hughes is obese
  • Yup. I never watched the scales, don't care if it says 185 or 205, long as it's healthy 'honest' weight. But the insurance thing is real. Still, I really do want (and intend) to drop this 20 that ISNT good weight
  • Yeah, I'm guessing Arnold s doesn't fit the mold.... Bone density thing
  • Nope, shoulder injury took me out. Gained a LOT Aof weight due to medical treatments and meds, but on the way back. B) Today, just shy if 5'10", 213 lbs, waist is 37 1/2 (4" more than "normal).
  • I may not have said that correctly. I weigh currently 213. The bmi thing said max 170, but if that's true then every MMA fighter I ever met was obese
