ridiculuos59 Thank you for the water aerobics suggestion. I will do some calling around and ask about that. Maybe if they realize that someone is interested they will think about offering a class.

Dogs are a great incentive to keep active. I have two Australian Terriers. So usually I walk three or four times a day to get them out. I think it is why despite my weight I have been lucky enough to avoid a lot of health problems. But at 72 I realize I have to be more careful and get the weight off and keep it off if I…

It is so much harder to lose the weight as we get older. I am a yoyo dieter. I use to be able to lose the weight quickly after I put it on but now every pound is a struggle. I am finding though that if I get my 25 grams of protein each meal I'm not as hungry and I am slowly losing the weight. Hang in there. You can do…

I am also borderline with osteoporosis. And for some reason I haven't tackled the strength training either. I keep thinking that I need to do that to strengthen my bones but somehow I never seem to make the effort. I'm thinking with the warm weather coming I will look into a place where I could walk in the water. It won't…

Pdc654 I agree we can do this. We will stick to it and get there one step at a time. I have never done water aerobics. I would love to try it but haven't been able to find anything close to me. Along with it being easier on my knees I know I would enjoy it. Thank you for the recommendation. I look periodically to see if…

It does sound like we have traveled a similar path. I have always gained weight when things were difficult and then taken it off when they were back under control. The difference now is that the weight just doesn't come off as easily. I'm not as active and even when I am the weight is much harder to come off. At 72 I know…

It does sound like we have traveled a similar road. Also when I was younger I could take the weight off so easily that I didn't worry too much. When things were difficult I ate, when the weight got too high I would diet. But at 72 the weight doesn't come off easily any more and now I am concerned that health issues are…

I didn't know that Denny's had 55+ meals. I will have to look into that. We don't have a lot of Denny's around here but they are in a shopping center that we go to occasionally. Thank you for that tip. It's nice to know that some restaurants offer smaller portions.

Thank you for sharing Patti!! You truly are an inspiration!! It's nice to know that we can be successful no matter what the difficulties if we stick to it. I am 72 and have been here before also. I successfully lost 60 pounds and was feeling great. I wanted to lose 40 more. Then the pandemic hit and I lost my little dog.…

I loved the AARP Challenge because it has 10 steps and goes over the main points from the book. Each step is short so even if you don't have a lot of time you can gain from it. I don't have the time to read a whole book but this was perfect for me. The diet is designed just for seniors. I was struggling to get the weight…

https://stayingsharp.aarp.org/about/brain-health/weight-loss-after-50-preview/ This is the link to the AARP challenge. I really liked it because it took you through the challenge step by step. They emphasize men eating 30 grams of protein at EVERY meal and women 25 grams. They said it was very important to keep up our…

Monday bunnies : 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰 I did better than Sunday but I still need to improve. A work in progress. 🤔

This is a great idea. I was shocked to discover I only got 🐰🐰🐰🐰 yesterday. I think because I was having a veggie or fruit at every meal I thought I had it covered. Now I see that I need to have fruit or veggies for snacks instead of popcorn and nuts. Love the sense of humor in this group.

I haven't read the book either Ann but AARP has a challenge going on right now that breaks down what the book says and you can go through it in 10 steps. It was interesting and helped me to get back into thinking healthy. I loved all your info. I'm glad you were willing to spend the time sharing it. I am also a yoyo dieter…

I love the 🐰🐰🐰 idea. You all have such good ideas and suggestions. Thank you all. This is such a great group!!.

AnnPT77 Thank you so much for all the good ideas and insight. I think I am frustrated because I have always found it easy to lose weight in the past but now at 72 it suddenly doesn't come off easy any more. I have always been a yoyo dieter. At my age I don't want to have to do that any more. I want to get the weight off…

PAV8888 Thank you for the response. First What is the 🐰🐰🐰 thread and where do I find it? Since I am 72 years old I'm finding that weight just doesn't come off unless I stick with about 1200 calories. But I guess because I have been eating much more than that now that I have cut back I'm hungry all the time. I will take a…

Hi Everyone, I'm starting again. I'd like to lose about 80 pounds. I've had three successful days so far but today I started feeling hungry. I am trying to stick to 1200 calories a day. But today I was so hungry that I added another 150 calories for 3 cups of popcorn. Do any of you have any thoughts on how to keep from…

Hi Everyone!! After 3 successful days hunger has caught up with me. What do you all do to keep from feeling hungry? I'm trying to keep my calories to 1200. But I was so hungry tonight that I added 150 calories for 3 cups of popcorn. I would greatly appreciate any ideas that you all have.

Love the NovusDies post. Thank you again Yoolypr. That does put things into perspective because it is so true. We all look for the magic diet to help us lose the weight when what we really need to do is get realistic and cut the calories. It's what has brought me back to MFP. That is where I have been successful because it…

Thank you for the welcome and encouragement Yoolypr!! My first two days have been good. Now I just have to keep my head in the game. Life is too short to live it unhappy.

Hi Everyone!! I will be 72 in May. Three years ago I lost 60 pounds but with the pandemic I've put 40 pounds back on. Now I'm paying the price. My knees and hips ache and I'm always tired. So it's past time to get back to a healthy diet and stay within my calorie limits so I can get this weight off and not hurt so much. I…

I totally agree. If you have your head in the game you do alright but if you don't it falls apart. But each day, hour, minute is a new beginning and and a new chance for success. Have a great day everyone. We can all do it one hour at a time.

ThinnerQ, You will find lots of great supportive people here. I wish you the best in your weight loss journey. I have 80 pounds to lose. My knees bother me at this weight. So I need to get the weight off of these old joints. Take one day at a time. Tell us how you're doing. I've had a tough weekend so far. I'm hoping with…

Trish, I'm new here too but not to MFP. I have been successful in the past with MFP. So I'm back to get it together again and lose this weight that is keeping me from doing everything I want to do. I wish you the best. We're all here to improve our health and this is a very supportive group. Elieza, I've never done water…

I've done some of Richard Simmons exercise videos. They are hard and keep you moving. I have no coordination so I like Leslie Samsone walking videos. I haven't done them in a while so that is something to think about getting back into. I don't think I could jog in place for 20 minutes any more. I can see where that would…

I'm 71 and just getting back with it. I have about 80 pounds to lose. It is harder as we get older. The weight doesn't come off as fast and we tend to have more issues to deal with. But I am determined to get these pounds off of my poor knee joints. I wish you lots of success in your journey.

I hope everyone's week is going well. I am trying to get into some strength training this time. It's the one thing I have neglected in the past. So today I am determined to find a good resistance training video. I just bought all the equipment I will need. I'm hoping the strength training will help me get stronger and…

Wow!! You had a busy day. Five days a week I do 30 minutes on the stationary bike and about 7 minutes right now on the elliptical. Then I do 10,000 steps every day. I have heard so many good things about water aerobics. I wish there was some place close that I could go for that. But I agree with you, I never count all the…

To have come as far as you have is incredible. I would love to be able to use a pool but we don't have any pools close enough to make a habit of it. You are very committed to do 5 days a week but they say it is one of the best exercises because it doesn't stress your joints. I have always been a walker and despite the knee…
