Glorious morning. Mid 50s. Perfect running temperatures. I did just over an hour in the RTP woods. 5.1 miles @ 11:47 pace 61.1 out of 125 miles done

Rest day for me. I don't care much about the color of the shoes. Having two different colors makes them easier to rotate, but I have also marked the opening in the bottom with a sharpie so I can tell the difference between two pair of the same color. I keep track of the mileage on RunningAhead.com so I know when to retire…

52 minutes recovery effort on the RTP trails in a light mist. 4 miles @ 12.55 pace 55.9 miles out of 125 complete

Yesterday's rain has abated leaving cooler overcast weather. Pretty decent conditions for a long run. I decided to keep it easy today and run the ATT because it's relatively flat and straight. Did a hair over 10 miles at easy effort. First 9 miles were right around 10 minutes, give or take 10 seconds. Felt good at the end…

Easy peasy 48 minutes through the woods in the rain. Had a box turtle run across the path in front of me. Well, he as actually just kind of standing there. :) 3.89 miles @ 12:24 pace 41.8 miles out of 125 complete

A big part of the cost here in the states is the liability insurance. People will sue you for farting on them in a race.

I donated all my medals to Medals for Mettle. https://www.medals4mettle.org/

I'm totally down with making swag optional and charging additional for it. I still think that non-swaggers would still foot the bill for some of it because the races need to order so far in advance. Yes, the cost of the swag is a small percentage for sure. I've run plenty of $30 races too that had a shirt. But most of them…

I think this advice, this tactic is very good. What I see this doing is forcing you to keep your feet under your torso and not extend too far forward. What that does is force you into more, shorter strides, getting you closer to the preferred cadence of around 180 steps per minute.

Another 4.5 miles in the woods in a light mist. This is the time of year that you have to be on the lookout for Vampire Squirrels. I think I saw one shadowing me at one point. These things are dangerous. If you've watched True Blood, you know there is a whole ritual to turn you into a Vampire Squirrel, but if you just get…

~ 50 minutes in the woods. Nothing to see here except the occasional squirrel. 4.5 miles @ 11:24 pace 33.4 miles complete out of 125

Easy jaunt through the woods for almost 59 minutes. The traffic on the trail is picking up. I guess more people are hitting it in the morning since the available daylight in the evenings is quickly dwindling. 5.1 miles @ 11:26 pace 28.8 out of 125 done for the month.

Really nice consistency there on the quarters with the final ones being faster. Well done.

Headed over to the RTP trails this morning. Started getting my stuff ready when I go there and realized that I left the key card for my car in my shorts on Saturday, so I have no way to lock my car during the run unless I wanted to carry my phone in my hand. Uh, no. Drove back home without running. Since we are 1 car…

I love this. My longest no dreadmill streak (before I retired from running to become a recreational surfer  ) was in the neighborhood of 15 months. I just can't stand that torture device. I caved because I had a 10 mile run on the schedule and there was sleet and ice everywhere. I couldn't even safely get to a trail.

Happy start to the work week. I tend to be AFK most of the weekend since I sit in front of this laptop Monday to Friday. So, here's the recap from the weekend. Saturday - My wife and I went to Lake Crabtree County Park. This was our first time there so we weren't real sure what the trails would be like. There was an event…

Took it to a new stand of woods today. Navigated the 5.8 mile Company Trail at William B. Umstead State Park in an hour and 11 minutes. This trail was way more technical than the RTP trails. Lots of roots and rocks. I'm pretty sure footed on trails and I caught a toe 4 times. Didn't hit the ground, but came close on one…

4.5 miles through the woods to cap off September. 107.3 miles out of 100. Can I bank 7.3 for next month?

I'm still rebuilding base, so I'm in for 125 miles.

Another glorious morning in RTP. 48:46 in the woods for 4.2 miles. 102.8 out of 100 miles for the month. Is there a thread for next month yet?

Just shy of an hour through the woods. 52 degrees this morning. Couldn't ask for better running weather. 5.1 miles @ 11:38 pace 98.6 miles out of 100

This is the right way to do a long run. Race pace is for races. :)...and for shorter segments of training runs. For the long run, the occasional fast finish long run is a good training tool. Run the last 1/3 to 1/4 of the long run at your projected race pace. This is a great way to get used to running fast on tired legs…

Easy 3.4 through the woods. Late morning run today as it was my step-daughter's 8th birthday. 31.1 for the week. 93.4 for the month out of 100.

Today is a monumental day in my return to form. I did my first double digit run since May 13, 2017. I was 5 months removed from surgery for testicular cancer (100% cancer free now) and trying to balance running and surfing and it just wasn't working. That was my last significant run of the last significant week until my…

To echo a common theme here, oh what a difference the temperature makes. Today it was in the mid 50s at run time. The last couple of months it has been in the low 70s. Approximately 20 degrees difference resulted in a pace about 30 seconds per mile faster than all the previous jaunts through the heralded woods of RTP, at…

Hi everybody! I'm Carson. I used to post here as CarsonRuns when I lived in Baltimore (I looked for an old intro thread and couldn't find one). I was here when Stan (the originator of this group/challenge, whom I ran with a couple of times) was around. At the time, I was pretty active around here, posting in the Long…

Today was probably the best run since I returned. I did a solid 55 minutes (4.6 miles) in the woods. Low 70s, but very overcast. About 2 miles in the skies opened up and the last half of the run was in the glorious rain. I had forgotten how much I love running in the rain. The cool moisture on my hot skin, the sound of the…

Another easy trail run this morning. 40 minutes to cover 3.2 miles. Temps are still hovering in the low 70s but there is cooler air on the way. 70.3 for the month.

@johnisrunning, I visited the Grand Canyon a number of years ago, 2006, shortly after I had started running. I ran ONE TIME while I was there and the altitude killed me. My lungs burned for a couple of days after. You appear to be a bit more experienced than I was at the time. How did you handle the altitude? Did you…

Decided to take yesterday as an extra rest day and make last week a cut back week. Did 4.6 miles on the trails this morning in 56 minutes. 67 miles for the month.
