hi Carol. Welcome back! Speaking as 63, you are not “very old” Unless you’ve drilled that mindset into your head I think the world is in a period where people our age are splitting down the middle. People who act and move young, versus people who are overweight, sedentary and happier complaining about age catching up with…

welcome to MFP! Having been through a period of same, where husband was very gung ho about counting and logging, my best advice is, If he falters, you keep carrying on. Mine has out back on some of the weight but not all, and at least he’s a lot more conscious of what he eats. That’s a win right there. But if he quits,…

welcome to MFP. There’s a vast bunch of us here. Check this thread:

do you ever find yourself unreasonably mad over calories? neighbor has a bed-ridden husband. Another neighbor and I took her a nice lunch, and she wanted to return the favor, but using Door Dash. Her husband was craving Chikfila. No problem. Their grilled Market Salad looked quite good and without dressing, was high…

Barf. Family Halloween tradition. Beef stew, mixed with sour cream, baked in an oven with drop biscuit dumplings on top. So christened by a coworker who was appalled by the appearance of the leftovers. It’s been “Barf” ever since. 😂

there’s no such thing as too many cat pictures.

We have a much-loved local coffee shop, which is always jammed. Jammed with young mothers in super stylish of-.the-moment branded and color coordinated workout gear, with those Stanley (?) cup things, an armful of tasteful bracelets, long earrings, unblemished trainers, and the hairdo du jour. I’m not hating on those gals.…

We were told he’s half dachshund and half spaniel. We were also told we were his third or fourth placement , that he was turned in twice for biting small children, and despite his unbelievably delicate and sensitive nose, he was thrown out of sniffer school for a bad attitude. I tend to give that some credence, because…

and another one: coming to aquafit in full makeup, jewelry and hair done just so is ridiculous. Even worse is getting bent out of shape if your hair or makeup gets mussed up. In the pool. With people splashing about. Which you aren’t doing because you’re too worried about getting mussed up. Why are you even bothering? I…

You do not need to reserve a swim lane so you have a private runway for aquafit. Three lanes are reserved for aquafit. These three lanes easily accomodate a full class of 20 with room to spare. Three precious and rare lanes are set aside for lap swimmers to reserve, or hopeful walk ups to take advantage of. Classes are…

I guess it’s a plate or bowl, but the texture is disgusting. Yes, as you describe, like eating off a lizard’s butt. And the mango or cantaloupe on the right is like nothing in nature. I “read” it as AI, too. I just started dabbling in Instagram, so I could view some of the 🤬 links my eldest is eternally sharing. Watched on…

…but then you move, and you’re grateful.

me, too. Some mornings it feels like nothing’s optimal. Yeah, big sighs.

the Rigatoni alla Genovese was a win, high protein, lots of leftovers to freeze, and the crockpot worked great. What was wierd was I wanted to use these yard-long “candlestick” or candleario pasta, which was the whole reason for making it. Each piece was 50 grams. I tried breaking before cooking. Bad idea. Next time will…

maybe it’s just me, but I can’t identify everything in this picture and it’s driving me nuts.

this^^^^^ I naively thought that a slow, three mile evening walk would burn off half a carton of Breyers or a family pack of Oreos. I had ZERO concept of calories in versus calories out. Boy was I shocked to learn it might equal two Oreos or a partial serving of ice cream. Huge disconnect.

I’m assuming you’re training for the Camino de Santiago. I trained for that, but it got cancelled since my flight was April 2020 😢 However, I took the view that there would probably be rest stops, sightseeing, meal stops etc. so I broke it into chunks. I’d do a few miles in the morning with my backpack, a couple slow ones…

famous saying by someone I can’t remember: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results. Weight loss can drive you insane. Try doing it a different way!

welcome to the boards. I’m going to hazard a guess that you are trying to loose too quickly, cutting and/or exercising too hard, binging or unable to stick to calorie goal because you aren’t eating enough. As a result, you’re frustrated and give up easily. Instead of repeating this cycle over and over, set a smaller goal…

welcome to MFP. 1.) buy a good scale and get in the habit of using it 2.) log everything you eat diligently and honestly 3.) invest in a fitness tracker that syncs with MFP (the most popular ones are Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit) Learn the relationship between “earning”extra calories and the “cost” of those calories 4.) set…

good grief! I’ve already logged over 5600 steps just making breakfast and this pasta sauce. Who knew? Pasta sauce as workout! 💪🏻

A recipe from Chef John for Rigatoni ala Genovese. Took two hours to prep and chop, then says to simmer for 8-10 hours, “stirring occasionally”. Bump that. I’m transferring it to a crockpot as soon as it cooks down a little. Right now it’s a very full pot. It’s basically beef, a little white wine, and six pounds of onions,…

this made my morning…. Walking the High Anxiety Dog in the dark drizzle to make sure he did his business before the heavy rains move in. We’re up on the Square, waiting for the crosswalk light and hear a huge racket approaching. Up pulls a city fire truck, with Ghostbusters on loudspeakers at full volume. Every time the…

As an aside, the Apple challenges are based on what your watch reports based on your activity. You can’t copy/paste or alter results. They come straight from the watch to the scoreboard. Yes, there’s a lot of people out there really invested in the whole Apple Challenge psyche. I would’ve be surprised at all to have…

@durden I don’t think he’s talking about the negative calorie adjustment? I take it that his steps aren’t recording at all? @stuartmansfield4844 could you perhaps share a screen shot of both your Apple Watch steps screen and of the applicable part of your food diary? like so?

one thing about MFP, we’ve all been there to one degree or another. We’ve got each others’ backs, and we will celebrate your wins right along with you because we want so badly for you to succeed. If you want some great reading, go over to the Success Stories board, especially the NSV (non-scale victories) thread. Small…

ok I’m pulling this out of a very foggy part of my brain because it’s been awhile. I went through a brief period where mine wasn’t syncing. MFP had somehow re-set what device I wanted to report steps. Go to the main iOS app menu on your phone. Select “steps”. now see how it’s reporting. Mine had somehow changed the…

have you rechecked your privacy settings within Apple Health? They have to be reapplied if you’ve deleted and reloaded the app. Try the “sync” button at the bottom of the MFP home page, too. Sometimes it can take a while to update steps or recorded exercises. If you’re counting steps as exercise (I do a mix of intentional,…

we are not the only ones @cmriverside on the individual challenges, there would be a hundred or more “First Place” finishers, with perfect scores. That’s three completed “move” rings, 14 “stand” hours, and a completed “exercise” ring , every single day for the entire month. Zero rest or recovery days for any of them. I…

for your chocolate fix, may I recommend Lidl bakery chocolate chip cookies, if you’re lucky enough to have one near you? I got one as a frequent shopper freebie I needed wine for a pasta recipe, but they couldn’t sell it to me til noon (Deep South it hasn’t been so long since we got Sunday alcohol at all.) anyway, I…
