Still finding the activity feed to be a massive, empty hole.

  • one thing about MFP, we’ve all been there to one degree or another. We’ve got each others’ backs, and we will celebrate your wins right along with you because we want so badly for you to succeed. If you want some great reading, go over to the Success Stories board, especially the NSV (non-scale victories) thread. Small…
  • ok I’m pulling this out of a very foggy part of my brain because it’s been awhile. I went through a brief period where mine wasn’t syncing. MFP had somehow re-set what device I wanted to report steps. Go to the main iOS app menu on your phone. Select “steps”. now see how it’s reporting. Mine had somehow changed the…
  • have you rechecked your privacy settings within Apple Health? They have to be reapplied if you’ve deleted and reloaded the app. Try the “sync” button at the bottom of the MFP home page, too. Sometimes it can take a while to update steps or recorded exercises. If you’re counting steps as exercise (I do a mix of intentional,…
  • we are not the only ones @cmriverside on the individual challenges, there would be a hundred or more “First Place” finishers, with perfect scores. That’s three completed “move” rings, 14 “stand” hours, and a completed “exercise” ring , every single day for the entire month. Zero rest or recovery days for any of them. I…
  • for your chocolate fix, may I recommend Lidl bakery chocolate chip cookies, if you’re lucky enough to have one near you? I got one as a frequent shopper freebie I needed wine for a pasta recipe, but they couldn’t sell it to me til noon (Deep South it hasn’t been so long since we got Sunday alcohol at all.) anyway, I…
  • Logging housework as exercise will promote weight loss.
  • I don’t mean to be ugly, but I am an utter clean freak. I can easily (and usually do) log 10,000 steps running around while just cleaning house. I also managed to be obese for decades while doing this. If I had logged “housecleaning” while losing weight, my weight wouldn’t have budged. If you’re counting housecleaning…
  • Not invested one way or another in MFP offering challenges, but I do have some personal observations. I’ve done both Apple challenges and a couple here on MFP. The ones I did here were rather mind numbing, tbh. Simplistic and boring. People copying an yesterday’s post and adding today’s results to it. The threads naturally…
  • Steak Fatoush salad tonight. Recipe called for red grapes briefly pan fried in the same butter as the steak and red onion. I never would have thought of this, but the grapes were delicious. Absolutely out of this world. Husband loved it. Will def be making it again. Less parsley, more red onion, and more fried pita strips.
  • also suggest looking up posts by @_WILDECHILD_ and @rennerkyler both have lost large amounts and are trim and slim now, and sharing hiking and running wins. Go to success stories and look for the before and after photos thread. Many of those are people you want to keep an eye out for advice from
  • there’s also a thread by a fellow named MrMoto who lost a substantial amount of weight. j have his user ID slightly misspelled otherwise I’d be able to find it.
  • Hi, @ReallyFatAMERICAN I “only” lost 97, so my experience will be radically different from yours. First of all, the user name. Beating yourself up via a user name is negative reinforcement. Every time I logged in, I’d see that and it would get me down. If you’re serious about weight loss, you’ll be logging in multiple…
  • hi Brenda. Welcome to MFP! I lost a significant amount of weight, starting at 56. So many benefits, but, yes, one is being able to get on the ground and play with my three year old granddaughter. I’m able to do things I never could have imagined as a much larger person. I can go to the indoor playground and climb through…
  • I did reheat it separately and spooned it over the fries. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The fries were plain potatoes tossed in a spritz of olive oil. the bacon was awesome on its own I know. I scarfed half a slice and it’s the same stuff I enjoy for breakfast all the time. It was perfect! The individual goodness of the parts just didn’t add up…
  • last night was chili fries, using the new air fryer. Fries were a mixed bag- raw to burnt. The chili, while delicious on its own earlier in the weeks, was bland and tasteless on the fries. Waste of calories for the bacon. Couldn’t even taste it. Received a brief lecture from the husband for being cheap and buying cheap,…
  • welcome back. MFP did away with the newsfeed (of friends) a couple years ago. If you’re on Android or the web version, they are in the throes of revamping the app, and there’s numerous posts about it. If you’re an existing iOS app user, most of us appear not to have been affected yet. I’m seeing the same old same old as…
  • hi Julie. Welcome to MFP. I started here at age 56, obese and sedentary. My first tip is ; give yourself grace. You cannot expect perfection, reaching calorie goals every single day, grabbing a good you didn’t want or intend to grab. Give yourself the grace and time to learn this app and create habits. It took me months,…
  • welcome to MFP! That’s a very specific goal you’ve got there. I’m intrigued to know how you arrived at that time/weight, and how you’ll be implementing to reach it? You’ve got a great community here to lend advice. Take advantage of it. I went from a 22X to a size 5, and have maintained here for several years. I could not…
  • that’s an incredible job there, Mark. Could you please share with others what you did, how you created habits, what worked and what didn’t? If you’ll pardon the expression, people “gobble up” good advice. They may not post, but you can tell there’s lurkers by the post count!
  • I volunteer at an art museum. We always have boxes or trays of treats left over after events or weddings. I have taught myself to ignore them. I pack and take my own lunch, usually nice leftovers from dinner the night before, a protein bar, maybe a bag of carrots, or celery, an apple, some jerky. Usually I take all of the…
  • and as @nossmf says, working out first thing in the morning works for me. I’ve had a great breakfast, a coffee boost, and I’m energized and not yet tired. As a result, we’ve gotten in the habit of getting up at 5:30 am so I can make breakfast, give the dog a long (and necessary) poopy walk around town, and maybe warmup on…
  • the longest I’ve been out has been a month, due to a bike wreck, or travel. I think a lot of it is just down to fear. I always worry,”Will i still be able to do it? Will I be able to keep up my old pace? Will I have to start over with the baby weights? What if I tank and put the weight back on as a result?” Oddly, my…
  • I remember when eBay was a community of honest collectors, buyers, traders (done with a trusted wink wink, since EBay frowned upon non-monetary transactions) and sellers, and I made lots of friends there doing so. Yeah, things change in the online world, and generally, not for the better.
  • welcome to MFP @toobaemmad you don’t need an invite. You’ve joined simply by posting. Let us know if there’s anything we can help you with. I am living testimony to “no question is too dumb”. I’ve asked some doozies in my time here, but this group shepherded me to successful loss. Take advantage of us!
  • IME the math is always off on internet recipes. I feel sorry for people who aren’t logging and checking ingredients, and rely on online recipe nutrition. I honestly believe some of it’s intentional. Wow! Look what I can have for hardly any calories! The internet says so!!!!
  • a BEAR?!!!! And no commentary? I’ll never forget a customer telling me she and her mom were driving in the mountains. A bear ran out of the woods, and she hit it, knocking it to the ground. Her mom implored her to get out and see if the bear was OK, and she asked her “are you out of your mind?!”
  • Prayers / warm thoughts for my walking buddy, please. I assumed she was just off visiting her family, but just found out she was struck by a car while out walking , and has been in ICU for weeks. Seems so unfair. We’ve probably walked hundreds of miles together. I’m the one that steps out in front of cars, shouts and…
  • from your favorite logging app: now measured per “bite”, for extra, extra accuracy. (In fairness, this is per serving, which they are calling a “bite”, a la “brownie bites”. For the record, I could easily nibble this one as many bites!))
  • Was really run down, so didn’t make it to the grocery store yesterday, meaning no eggs for our usual Dutch baby Sunday breakfast. Decided to try a recipe for Irish soda bread from a British cookbook. Didn’t have “live culture probiotic” yogurt, so used regular Greek. Didn’t have enough buttermilk, so added half a cup of…
