My everyday breakfast is 1 oz Krave beef jerky (kinda pricy, but no nitrites or preservatives), 1 brown rice cake, and 1 oz almond butter. It keeps me full for 4 or 5 hours, 317 calories.

I get a moderate amount of exercise just because I live in a very rural place and don't have a choice. I still managed to put on 25 lbs over a few years just by eating too much. I have now lost those 25 lbs during the past 4 months without changing my daily physical output.

Eggs are pretty easy: a standard large egg is 70 calories. I don't think you actually have to weigh eggs. If you're off a bit because the egg is bigger or smaller, it won't be by much. Plus most of the calories are in the yolks, and some chickens lay larger-yolked eggs than others. But kudos for your attempt to be precise!…

Yes, the sugar one is definitely off. Oh, how I wish that a half ounce of sugar only had 2 calories! But yes, it's between 54 and 55 calories for 1/2 ounce of sugar.

Hanging in there for the last 3 lbs, til I reach my goal weight. I know that ideally goal weight is a range, but I promised myself I'd eat at a deficit until I reach the low end of that range. I've taken the too-small jeans out of storage and put them back in my drawer now! And I'm going to celebrate reaching my goal…

For those "just want to put food in my mouth" moments, I eat a few raw carrots or raw radishes, very slowly. Or kimchi. With a glass of water and maybe a half-ounce of cheese, it's surprising how these chewy vegies can calm down that unsettled feeling. I also use perfume. Having a strong fragrance around me seems to…

Hi there. I'm 63, and I've been wandering solo through MFP since early November. I've lost about 22 lbs since then, and have only 3 or 4 more to go now. I've been super-disciplined this whole time, although I live alone and don't have somebody to tell about it. So I thought it would be nice to spend a little while with an…

The whole "not more than half a pound a week" thing as you get close to your goal weight is just one of the stories that people on MFP accept as iron-clad rules. Pretty much every reputable medical website (CDC, NHS in the UK, Mayo Clinic, etc) says it's safe to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week. I've lost 21 lbs and have 4 more left…

1200 calories per day and my diary is open. 1200 calories can be a bit tricky, so it's nice to see how others are managing.

I expect and tolerate a certain amount of hunger while eating at a deficit -- and I eat lots of fat, protein, and nutrient-dense foods. It appears that some people don't feel hungry while losing weight, but that's probably just individual physiology. It makes sense: Your body doesn't know that you're only going to eat at a…

I was pretty much the same weight for all the years between age 18 and menopause, (excluding pregnancy of course) so that seemed like an obvious goal for me. I'm 5'8" and was 135 lbs for all those years. Body changes in my late 50's caught up with me and I put on 25 extra pounds -- so now I'm losing those. Only 7 more…

Lowfat buttermilk is nice in sauces, but you can't get it too hot or it will split. I use it to make a cheese sauce.

Hi all! So nice to hear these good stories from others my age! I'm a 63-year-old woman, living alone, totally off-grid. So, no gym to go to, but plenty of wood and water hauling, and biking around when it's not pouring rain. On a small island without stores, I only shop about every 3 weeks. Self-discipline is way easier…

You're really pretty! The shape of your face is determined by genetics, so it is what it is. Maybe splurge on a visit to a really skillful hair dresser and ask them to create a hair style that will frame your face in a way that's most flattering. Hair can make a surprising amount of difference.

I'm also 63. No aches, no pains. My body protests a bit if I do a lot of high-impact stuff all at once, but when I stop doing it, it stops hurting. I bike and lift heavy things and pretty much rely on my body in the same way I ever did.

Kind bars, especially the nut-based flavors. Tidy to eat, good blend of protein and fiber, not too much sugar. Also Krave natural beef jerky. Expensive, but if you can afford it, it's a good source of protein and they don't have added nitrites and nitrates. The pink peppercorn flavor is great.

I'm 5'8". When I started, I was 162 and fit into size 10 pants. Now I'm at 145... not sure of the current pant size because I'm just wearing the same stretchy stuff and waiting to reach goal weight of 135 before I shop.

I'm 63 years old, also eating 1200 calories a day. I usually meet or exceed the 21g of fiber that I aim for each day. My diary is open - maybe it will provide some useful ideas for you. I don't take any supplements, but I do often eat KIND bars -- they are a nut bar with 7g of fiber. I don't know if they're available in…

Congratulations, OP! I'm a certified childbirth instructor. What I tell the women in my classes is that nutrition -- not weight per se -- should be their central focus during pregnancy. So, that doesn't mean that you should eat as much as you want of whatever you want. Instead (especially if you're overweight) focus on…

Take half an acorn squash or 6 oz of some other winter squash, take out seeds, fill the hollow place in the squash with a couple ounces of grated fresh apple and some cinnamon, wrap in foil and bake at 400 degrees F until it feels soft. It's sweet and filling, relatively modest carbs and calories, lots of great…

The Brazilian resource is great, but on the long side. Here's a short version that covers the basics. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/diet-and-cancer/how-to-enjoy-a-healthy-diet And yes, all serious nutrition guides advise avoiding highly processed foods. You're on the right track.

Almond butter is one of my staples. One thing to be aware of is that different brands have different amounts of oil. (Are we allowed to mention brands on here?) The Costco kind is really cheap, but it's so oily that I found it almost unusable. Stirred or not, it was mostly oil right down to the bottom. Now I buy Almondee…

Great video! I totally had other things I needed to do, but I ended up watching the entire thing.

One other rule I have: I don't have to log plain raw celery. It's a freebie - I get to eat as much as I want.

Don't drink my calories. Don't talk about what I'm eating or why.

Krave flavored beef jerky (pink peppercorn flavor is my favorite.) One ounce is 90 calories, with 9 grams of protein.

OP, you mentioned that you worked out yesterday, and you're extra-hungry today. I've learned that whenever I get extra exercise on one day, I add the exercise calories to the following day -- because that's always when my body seems to need them. Also, regarding hunger: I divide up hunger between the kind that's just a…

I have a very hard time with the fact that MFP disregards nutrition other than general categories of carbs, protein and fat, when discussing weight loss. It's like this site views weight loss as if it were totally disconnected from essential human health. It's true that all you need in order to lose weight is a calorie…

For me, the key to social eating is to NOT mention the fact that I'm limiting calories, and then just take very small portions of everything. I often won't finish certain foods, but when you've taken only a tiny bit to begin with, the wastage isn't bad. When you don't call attention to what you're eating, nobody notices.…
