  • Not in an open way, but more in a passive-aggressive way. I got snide remarks, a few backhanded compliments, food pushing when eating out, but mostly an apparent lack of interest in my achievements. Good thing that I'm thick skinned and have no need for external validation. Apparently when the "fat friend" is no longer…
  • Your post made me smile, because the first time I tried the elliptical I hated it too! So much that I didn't try it again for several weeks. :D I don't love it (at least not yet), but once I got the hang of it I realized it does get easier with time. Sometimes it's good to give things a second chance. :)
  • Thanks @heybales , I never thought of that!
  • Not that I'm aware of. I log mine in a spreadsheet.
  • #1 I used to, but last year I mustered the courage to join a gym, and my only regret is not having done it much sooner. #2 I found a good low-cost local gym. No perks or luxuries, but it has all that I need. #3 I can still exercise at home if and when I want to. #4 True, I don't. But I have a mat, some resistance bands,…

  • No and NO! Are you trying to get yourself severe food poisoning? That is not the same kind of mold used on blue cheese.

  • This has been my experience also, and I too am curious about why it seems to happen like that.
  • Wow! If anyone has doubts about recomping, they should check your photos. Well done, congrats! :)
  • I usually feel good after exercising, even though I may be tired. Happier, stronger, in a better mood, more energized (again, even if I'm tired, which is a paradox but true nevertheless). But the actual "high"? That kick that puts me at an almost euphoric state? I've only had it a couple of times, after running. And it's…
  • Oh dear, I guess you're in for a surprise. I don't know what you consider high on calories, and it always depends on the ingredients used, but typically quiche has somewhat similar calories to pizza. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it fits your caloric budget. As for good or bad, I don't even understand what is being…
  • This may sound odd, but when you are on the Exercise Diary, you'll need to find an entry for Strength Training under the Cardiovascular section (the same place where you added your walk). ETA: There will be no specific entries for each strength training exercises in there, so just enter the duration in minutes for the…
  • Impressive transformation! Congratulations! :)
  • Actually, I should have clarified that I use the podcast files instead of the app (old phone problems, eheh!), but I assumed the contents would probably be the same. I haven't used their forum, though, so thanks for the tip! :)
  • First of all, if you're not used to walking long distances yet, I'd suggest you start with a more conservative goal, like 5000 steps a day. If or when you end up feeling such a number is easy, then gradually build it up to a higher goal. There's no point on going from 0 to 100 too fast, or you'll risk fatigue or injury,…
  • I can attest that this trick works wonderfully for me as well. I use a small plate for hot meals (usually dinner) and a small bowl for my cereal and milk. The first time I weighed 30g of cereal I was in shock of how little it seemed. But now in a small bowl it just looks right - and truth be said, I don't feel hungry when…
  • Hang in there, keep walking those 12 minutes. Eventually your body will get used to it and nothing will ache. That's when you increase it to 13, 14 or 15 minutes, for example. Gradual improvements are the best! When I started walking as exercise, I would do it for 15 minutes and get tired. Now I can walk briskly for long…
  • I like NHS's version. It's free, it plays music, and it gives you all the directions of when to run and when to walk. Plus some tips and words of encouragement. Actually, I don't like it - I love it! ;)
  • Good for you! :) I'm not doing C25K at the moment, but the program was a life changer for me. Best of luck to achieving your goals!
  • I'm all for "eat less, move more" and I don't think it's a myth at all. But, realistically speaking, I can easily undo a two hour brisk walk (in which I burned around 400 calories) in a couple of minutes by eating something over those calories. I know I can, I've done it many times. :D It's all well as long as people are…
  • @MikePfirrman I'm sorry you had to endure such a situation, clearly the guy just wanted to pick a fight (verbal or otherwise). I'd be upset for hours too. I understand that in a confrontational situation nobody wants things to escalate. I understand that there are many valid reasons for people to wear masks, even if they…
  • Excellent idea, thank you!
  • I get what you're saying. When I lost 40+ pounds (and my BP got lower, and my cholesterol got better) my former GP was shocked too. She even congratulated me! In turn that made me shocked, because I never expected that reaction from her. In the past she always lectured me about something, so much that I dreaded our…
  • And it was Spiderman! That would make it three NSVs in my book! :)
  • I used to be a fast eater too, but lately I've been mindfully trying to eat slower. I notice that if I chew my food properly I get to savor it more (and I feel more satisfied when I'm done eating).
  • I thought I would have to deprive myself of all the sweets and yummy things that I love, but now I know I can include them in my day as long as they fit my calories. I thought I would be hungry all the time, but now I know that just isn't true for me. I thought I hated exercise, but now I know there are activities that I…
  • Do you have an activity or fitness tracker connected to your MFP account?
  • Obviously, there are specific circumstances in which people can't volunteer for a later flight, as you noted. Maybe I should have added that I get painfully anxious before flying, that can help explain my knee jerk reaction if something like that happened. It's not about a "better deal", it's about safety.
