Welcome, good luck on your journey!

i just use a plain old weight-only scale. The reviews i have read of those scales that do more indicate the accuracy isn't the best for fat percentage, etc. Be interested to know if you have had a different experience. my gym has a fancy and expensive looking scale that reports on all that stuff and it seems accurate to…

Welcome! May you soon be rutless!

Type 2 diabetic here, so I went cold turkey (if you'll excuse the phrase) from processed sugar around six months ago. I've turned to fresh fruit for most sweet things, and fresh medjool dates are my faves. To me they taste as good as candy I used to eat all the time. Also, for after workouts, and sometimes as a dessert, I…

Welcome! There's some excellent info at the top of the Getting Started forum if you haven't visited yet. Good luck on the journey!

I saw "breakfast bar" and I immediately thought of a long counter with bar stools where you get served breakfast. I'm with you now, though. I've made these before and liked them: no-bake protein bars, from the excellent darebee.com site.

For me I didn't feel or notice the loss in my belly until I looked at photos, then I could see a difference. And I still have to glance at the photos now and then to remind me of the progress, so even if you never share them I recommend some selfies to mark progress on the journey.

Welcome and good luck on the journey! If you haven't done so already, it's worth reading the top posts in the Getting Started forum, I found them to be very helpful.

Nope, not true. The food database usually has several entries for a given food. I use a food scale so I prefer entries that say something like, "Avocado, 100 grams = 160 calories." The one you found was likely entered in error. Probably.

Thanks everyone for your great replies!

You'll find there are a fair few T2 diabetics on MFP. I was diagnosed in March 2019. As of two weeks ago my A1C is 5.2 and I have halved my daily metformin dosage. It's possible! You'll get some different answers here about what to eat. Some of this is really individual -- you sort of have to eat the stuff, wait the…

Good plan. I am in the midst of a 160 lb journey and that is what i do, focus on shorter term goals. Welcome and good luck!

Welcome! If you're new to this weight loss thing, have a look at the pinned messages in Getting Started. Very helpful stuff!

At my doctor's advice I started taking a gym class that features HIIT (high intensity interval training). I did this even though i was 300 lbs at the time (and it went fine and I have lost 50 lbs since starting). There was a very positive impact on my GL numbers in very short order. But exercise is kind of a personal…

Sometimes I think since I was diagnosed earlier this year I've done nothing but read. Trying to learn all I can so I know what I'm doing. Along the way I discovered this book, "Bright Spots and Landmines: The Diabetes Guide I Wish Someone Had Handed Me." It's inexpensive and it's short and to the point. The author is Type…

Even if it's for the best it's one hell of a painful ride. Sorry you have to go through that stuff and good luck with the next phase of the journey!

Hi @siouxieq62 ! thanks -- i do not do keto, I just cut out processed food. Also doing the other stuff: weighing all my food, logging it all. I go to a gym class twice a week which helps with the GL numbers too. Good luck on your own journey!

Hi, my name is Lou. I was diagnosed as Type 2 in March of 2019. At the time of my tests, A1C was 7.7 and GL was 150. Who knows how long I had been living with these stats? I was ashamed and disgusted with myself, because I had been living with 100+ too many lbs on my body for years, and that had to have contributed to the…

Sounds like a good plan, good luck!

CONGRATS!

Yep, same for me. I've been weighing daily for about six months and the overall trend is good, but the daily can be frustrating. Still, I prefer the daily data.

So sorry you're dealing with this! I believe everybody has times like this. I highly recommend meetup.com (I think someone else suggested that). You can find people doing things you like to do, even if it's just meeting over coffee to chat about some topic. I wager there's already a meetup group in your area formed around…

This was me too. I also happened to be tracking my sleep with my Fitbit and it was interesting to see when my sleep started improving, which was almost exactly 2 weeks after I went cold turkey (if you'll excuse the expression) on processed food.

Wow. Great insight!

Hi @Rush701970 i was diagnosed in March of this year. it was outstanding motivation for me. I'm down 60 lbs and my a1c dropped from 7.7 to 5.9. This app helps a great deal. my doctor also recommended taking a gym class to help lower blood sugar and that has helped too. There is a dedicated group on the MFP forums for Type…
