MFP has my BMR at 1063, I guess I must be in a coma 😉

This is very interesting as I lost my periods due to chemotherapy 2.5 years ago and since then I've been on daily aromatase Inhibitors to block eastrogen and progesterone to limit the chances of the breast cancer recurring. I don't think I've actually experienced any menopausal symptoms (it's hard to tell, the side effects…

I stopped logging exercise because I stopped exercising. I changed my activity level up from sedentary to lightly active at the same time. I chose the 14 weeks for data because I lost a lot of weight in July (9.4lbs) but in May I had a long holiday and ate a lot of extra calories so I figured that May-August, it would all…

Thank you 😊 Do you know if I should have used GROSS or NET intake in my calculation?
-
@sijomial, now that you've mentioned that I'm confused. I've realised that I stopped logging and eating back exercise calories just over a month ago. Do I need to recalculate using all GROSS calories, all NET calories or a mix of the two for the exercise logging and non logging times? I thought it was right to use NET…
-
Thank you. My calculations are based on NET calories, is this wrong? Should I recalculate using my GROSS intake?
-
Thank you, I'm trying to get my head around maintenance first before I can progress to gaining. My calculated maintenance calories are a lot more than MFP gave me so I just want to check that my calculations are correct.
-
Of course I wouldn't accept it, I'm not an idiot! I monitor my weight and net calories strictly and will continue to do so, so that just wouldn't be an issue for me. I was just pointing out that something on MFP was wrong.
-
No, I got the correct calculation. Last night 1470 calories was showing that I'd gain. Now both sources are showing that I'd maintain.
-
So far today I've eaten 399 calories from fruit and vegetables. If I didn't log them I'd be in trouble 😧

You can set your daily calorie goal manually on the webpage, that might be easier for you. Just click "edit" on Daily Nutrition Goals here.... https://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals

I don't believe that I have made any excuses. I simply posted to ask about an MFP calorie discrepancy. That 153 calories extra that I'd have been eating is a lot when you work it out over a year, it's the equivalent of almost 16lbs. Would you want to unintentionally eat that much extra? Anyway, as it happens, the MFP…

Or use a food scale!

If you can, weigh the cooked rice once it's cool as the weight will drop quite a bit after the steam has evaporated.
-
I did hope so 😂 Seriously, if you're cooking the rice just for 1 portion then weigh and record it dry plus anything else you add to it (I used a stock cube and some spice yesterday). If you're making more than one portion then build a recipe and let MFP figure out the calories.
-
Why? It's just rice, it doesn't have to be complicated 😁
-
If you cook 100g of dry rice and consume the whole thing then the calories are the same but, if you cook 100g (dry weight) and eat only a portion of the rice you'd need to weigh the cooked rice, divide that amount by the amount of calories in the dry weight, multiply by how many grams you are eating. It's much simpler to…

I cooked 1 cup (233g) of dry rice yesterday in 2 cups of water. The cooked rice weighed only 577g, so it's not necessarily 3 x the dry weight.

There is no help here, well, no free help anyway. I've looked into it and there's nothing accessible to me. I posted that thread in the ED section when I was feeling a bit desperate but I'm ok now. Eating 1300-1400 cal's/day is a huge leap from how many I was(n't) eating a few weeks back.

By healthily I mean that I've lost weight simply by calorie counting, no laxative abuse, exercise abuse (ok, that did start to get out of hand but, I recognised where it was going and stopped) and I've not been deeply distressed about weight fluctuations and there's been zero self-harming. To me, all things considered,…

1470 is maintenance at lightly active. I've had ED's on and off all my adult life (usually every 3-5 years) but this isn't that. I've lost weight healthily this time and I recognise that now I need to maintain for a while until my holiday next month. I'll maintain whatever the holiday weight gain is afterwards also.
-
I'll look at my net calories over the last 2 months, compare that with my weight loss and calculate my maintenance number from that. I just wish that MFP would get it right 😣
-
It's a matter of trust. I trusted MFP to lose weight, I want to have that same trust to maintain.

Hi @PAV8888 👋 My holiday was back in May. I was 112.2lbs at the start and 114.4lbs after. I lost the holiday weight, and more. I've continued to lose, I'm now 99.8lbs. I'm trying to maintain before gaining as that seems the safer way for me (mentally) to cope. I've got a 3.5 week holiday coming up in 5 weeks time, I'm…
-
I refresh my goals daily to make sure it's correct. My issue is that if I ate at the 1470 it gave me I'd gain weight, not maintain.

Age 51 female, 5' 4", 99.8lbs

Thank you for responding but I'm afraid that I completely disagree. MFP doesn't base it's calorie allowance on where the calories come from. A calorie is a calorie regardless of whether it comes from a pudding or fruit.
-
I get that, I just don't understand how they can get it so wrong? I'm new to maintenance and quite frankly I'm scared now about trusting the daily calorie amount. I think I'll stick with the 1317 to be on the safe side.
