I gave up drinking 5 years ago, as I wanted to lose weight and it struck me as a useful tool in the diet. For me, it wasn't only the calories in the alcohol which was an issue, but also those stemming from bad decisions. (A late night donner kebab followed by a fried breakfast was typical.) I'm also from the UK so followed…

I have a medium term story: 5 years, 2 months ago my A1C was 48 mmol/litre (which is on the cusp between full-blown diabetes and borderline diabetes.) I went on a diet, going from 190 pounds to 140 over 4 months (BMI of 28 to a BMI of 21). I have kept the weight off for those 5 years. My A1C fell to 36 mmol/litre at the…

I swam 1km this morning. It was a nice spring day, so I did a 12 mile walk in the afternoon (mixing units in this post).

Wednesday Climbing. I was terrible. I got one V3, but it was a major struggle. 2 hours. Friday Swimming, 1.5 km. Saturday To compensate for Wednesday, gravity was lower today. I got a load of projects. They covered a range of styles; my favourite was an overhang jump-y one. I'm normally terrible at these, so it was a…

I don't know what to vote on this. I had a PFO closure. However, I'm a scuba diver and I had the operation to carry on diving as opposed to a cardiac event (although, arguably, my diving bend was cardiac. But it's not normally classed as such.)

I had a sedentary Easter; my Mum visited me. She's not hugely mobile at the moment. It was great seeing her. I snuck in some exercise: Friday Climbing, 2 hours. Decent, I got loads of v4s , (although this gym grades soft.) Saturday Probably about 6 miles walk, and a short lifting session (squat, bench and deadlift). Sunday…

Monday Climbing. More strength training. It was fun. 2.5 hours. There is a v5 I got to the penultimate move on. It may go eventually; it's max effort so I won't get many attempts per session, though.
-
Tuesday Swimming; 1km. Wednesday Climbing. 3.5 hours, decent session. I got almost all the v3s at the gym; and a couple of v4s. Saturday Caving. A training session; I learned how to rig. It turns out 4 knots are sufficient (double figure 8; clove hitch; overhand and bowline on a bite.) Sunday Caving. Sell Gill; I had a…

I went climbing yesterday. There was an element of over-enthusiasm and mis-planning. I walked from work to the gym, which is around 4 miles. I got there at 7.30 p.m., and stayed to just before 11 pm; meaning I got home just after midnight. The session was good, I sent quite a lot of stuff even beyond the three hour mark.

I went climbing yesterday. We had a strength training session. It was interesting; I was pretty weak, and struggled with some of the exercises. (For reference, the folk who nailed it all can bang out loads of 1-armed pull-ups. This is beyond me; I may try to get nearer it .)

I was doing a 12 metre down-climb on Saturday. There is normally a trickle of water, which became a raging torrent due to recent damp weather. I have always free climbed this; so I decided to again and didn't take a belay option. I went left early on, which got me out of the waterfall. The drawback of this was that about 4…

Sue is around 67 years old. Her husband gave her the belay for this. I free climbed it, which proved to be more sporting than normal. (The waterfall is normally a trickle, but was actually a torrent this time. That made my glasses steamed up, so I couldn't see the foot holds.) I caved yesterday. We did traversed over a…

I've been active; but haven't logged. I went caving on an 8 hour trip. Here is a picture of Sue descending a waterfall.

I went climbing on Monday. My heart wasn't really in it; I think I pulled a muscle in my right leg on the 25 mile hike on Sunday. It meant i didn't really commit to any of the jumping moves . I went swimming today; 1 km. It was nice; I think my leg injury has recovered. I do weigh myself daily; I've never noticed any…

I have missed a bunch of logging. Tuesday Climbing. I was terrible. 3.5 hours. Wednesday Climbing. I was decent. 2 hours. Thursday Swimming, 750m. Friday Climbing, 2 hours. My best session in ages Saturday Climbing, 3.5 hours. Odd session; I was terrible for the first two hours. I then sent a project and went on a sending…

Wednesday Climbing. Good fun, I was in decent form. It turns out that I can't do upside down crack; I may go back for more pain and misery. 3 hours. Thursday Swimming, 1km Saturday Caving. We did Swildon's Hole. We aimed to get to the first symp. But it was very, very damp. Bits of the cave which ared normally dry had…

Swimming, 1.6 km. (I have been going before work, this time I went after which gave me longer to get more distance in.)

Climbing, 2.75 hours. Fun session; I was in good form. I went through a recent phase of not really getting any v4s at this gym; I now get a few and most of the v3s. That said, there is a V2 which requires either being tall or being flexible which I didn't get. (You need to plop your right foot somewhere near your head,…

Climb v5 more regularly. I very occasionally find one in exactly my style I can do, but it's a bit of a rare event.

Friday Swimming. 750 metres before breakfast. Saturday Climbing. Decent session, I got 3 v4s including a flash. The one I'm happiest with was a V3 overhang which is my anti-style (It was: a jump start to two small jugs with no feet; a campus move to bump up the right hand; a swing with the left leg to a chip way out left;…

Wednesday Climbing; 2.45 hours. Good fun, I got some hard routes. The one I'm most proud of is actually quite easy (maybe V3; it was graded V2 to v4). I couldn't work out the last move, so I climbed up to it on easy holds to find a body position that worked. Then I could work out how to move off the penultimate holds. (I…

My guess was 133 kgs, as lbs doesn't make a lot of sense.... ,(I think it would be a BMI of 15). I went climbing yesterday. I was strong. I sent a lot of stuff. I went for a swim this morning (1km). I seem to be getting a bit faster.

I forgot to mention to mention pull-ups, as they've had a few mentioned in the thread recently. I got quite good at them in lock-down (but not good enough to do a muscle up or a 1-armer.) I could do 2 reps with +25kgs, or 15 reps with body weight total fairly easily. I haven't trained them for a while. So I did a few sets…

Wednesday Climbing, 3 hours. Meh session. I tried hard, but wasn't very successful. Friday Swimming. This was before work, so I only had time for 750 metres. Saturday Caving. 4 hour trip. It was just a gentle nimble around Ogof Ffynnon Ddu (OFD) top , as it had been very damp and this bit of cave doesn't flood Sunday…

I had borderline diabetes; high cholesterol and borderline high blood pressure. I lost around 45 pounds in 3 months; and all my blood markers became normal with no medication. The wright has stayed off; and my bloodwork has remained good. (The diet started exactly 5 years ago.)

I went climbing yesterday. I got a bit carried away in a 3 hour session, going as hard as I am capable of. It actually wasn't a brilliant session, although I got two v3 projects.

Climbing. 2.5 hours. We did a fun drill. You find an intense climb you expect to get. You climb it as many times as possible in 5 minutes, doing press ups between reps. You rest for 5 minutes, and then do the same on another climb. We repeated 6 times, so that it took 60 minutes. With warm up and stretching , it was 150…

Blood pressure varies throughout the day. I personally get white coat hypertension; I am scared of doctors. So medical readings can be slightly high for me. So a single systolic reading of 120 doesn't sound alarming. However I am not a medical doctor, I am a random chap on the internet.

Climbing, 2 hours. Gravity was back to normal; it was really good fun. It is always a relief to mind that really bad form was just transitory. This gym (Yellow Spider, previously called Craggy Island) is easily the most friendly of the London gyms. Maybe it's because it is more local, so the same people go regularly.
