  • I got a climb in on Wednesday. There were some signs that my form is slowly starting to improve again - I got a few graded at v2-v4. I didn't have much time for exercise on Thursday, but I did manage to get a quick squat session in. I haven't lifted for a while, so I just did 70 kgs for lots of sets and reps. I climbed…
  • I did this for about two months. The weight came off very quickly indeed. It was a bit miserable, but effective. (I am a 5 foot 9 male who started at 185 pounds and reached 140 pounds). I think I actually averaged around 15,000 steps rather than 10,000.
  • I got a climb in on Monday after getting back from diving. Surprisingly, I wasn't terrible. (I wasn't good, but I got a couple of harder routes.) I lasted 70 minutes before the pump got too bad. I had a day off yesterday, but did manage 10,000 steps at least. I should be able to get a climb in later tonight. I will head…
  • We cremated Dad on Tuesday, then I went home via a climbing gym. I was out of practice, as expected after a month off. On Thursday, a few of us headed off to Cornwall. We arrived just in time to get in a night dive. On Friday, we got two day dives and another night dive. It was my 50th, so we had some cider on the night…
  • I did a light spot of hangboarding before lunch, and a walk and run on the beach at lunch. It was nice - the seals were out in force. I went for a quick dip (in my underpants, due to not packing swimming trunks), but didn't last long. I seem to feel the cold a lot these days. I am currently on 23,000 steps, so it has been…
  • I have stayed reasonably active for my time in Norwich, relying on walking, hangboarding, kettlebells and the odd run. (I'm staying out of gyms in a vague attempt at self isolation to protect Mum.) My logging here has missed quite a few sessions, though. My average step count over the last week has been 25,000 per day.…
  • I played with a 24kgs kettlebell, and then did around 12 miles walking. It is probably selfish, but I am looking forward to when I can get back to climbing. The funeral is 9n the 12th, so it will be some time after that.
  • Dad died this evening. It is 6 weeks since his cancer came back, so at least it was relatively quick and not too drawn out. he didn't suffer too much. I did some exercise stuff in the morning before it happened, a 6 mile walk and a kettle bell session.
  • Tuesday A couple of walks, getting 17,000 steps. Wednesday I did some hangboarding, getting 17 seconds and some pull ups on the portable board. I got some walks in, getting 15,000 steps. I played with a 24kgs kettle bell, getting 20 goblet squats and 100 swings in.
  • Sunday I did an hour's yoga in the morning, and a brief kettle bell session just after lunch. (100 swings and 15 goblet squats with a 24 kgs bell). I then played with my hangboard a little. Finally, I did an evening walk, ending on just over 21,000 steps. Monday Day off, just getting 14,00 steps.
  • My Dad has been ill recently, which is why I am at my parents' house. He recently moved from hospital to a hospice specialising in end-of-life care. So I got to see him yesterday for the first time since this started. He is in a lot of pain. I did a couple of walks, getting 26,000 steps for the day. I did a spot of…
  • I aimed to go for a walk befir work, but didn't leave myself enough time. So I went for a run instead. It wasn't very far - 1 mile in 9 minutes. I got an evening walk instead.
  • I am the same height as Mike. I used to weigh 180 (a BMI of 27). I was reasonably active, and reasonably strong. However, I had a large belly. I was diagnosed with borderline Type II diabetes. I cut to 140, (a BMI of 21) and my diabetes reversed, and other health markers improved. I also became way more active, and I like…
  • Here is the original article: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589004221009639 It seems odd to me; being overweight is clearly bad and exercising too little is also clearly bad. It is unclear to me why addressing one better than addressing both. It is easier to be active whilst small than whilst big.
  • When I did my diet, I went for 1,200 calories a day for a couple of months. The only way I could get that to work was cutting out drink. When I moved onto more sensible calorie amounts (maintenance is around 2,400), I found I didn't really miss it, so now I only drink on special occasions. These are quite rare - there have…

  • About 9 miles' walk and a quick session (100 swings and 15 goblet squats) with a 24 kgs kettle bell.
  • I went for a couple of walks yesterday, I think getting in around 20,000 steps. I replaced my smashed Fitbit yesterday, so I will start tracking accurately again as of today. (I smashed it by wearing it whilst climbing, and then took it under my drysuit wrist seal on a few dives. At the risk of anthropomorphising, it…
  • I used to think that being cold whilst skinny was purely due to the insulation from subcutaneous fat. Whilst that plays a role, I believe that there are other factors at play. For example, being overweight causes more uncoupling proteins. These decrease the efficiency of conversion of food into energy (through increasing…
  • I am at my parents' house for a bit. They are vulnerable, so I am isolating and my workout options are more limited than normal. Today, I did a 12 mile walk and had a go on a portable hangboard.
  • Afternoon all. I am in the nice position of wanting to put on a bit of weight. (I'm current 139 pounds- I aim to keep myself between 140 and 147.) The downside is that the weight gain happens more easily than the cuts...
  • I did some lifting yesterday, pretty light as I had fortnight off for my holiday. OHP: 2 set of 5, 35 kgs Squat: 2 sets of 5, 70 kgs Bench:2 sets of 5, 55 kgs. I lost some weight on holiday - I am now below 140 pounds (63.6 kgs).
  • I had a 90 minute climb yesterday. I was terrible for the first hour, but somehow started to send stuff after that, and ended the session with a bunch of hard (for me) tops, including a couple of flashes.
  • My holiday is over, unfortunately. In true megalomaniac style, here are two photos of me. I was pretty active on the holiday, getting quite a few dives and walks in. I broke up the journey home yesterday to get in a decent hike, and also got a cheeky morning dive in. The dive was at 8 a.m., and I eventually got back to…
  • Walking in the Highlands. There seemed to be a lack of paths, so I relied on Right to Roam a lot. There was a lot of bogs involved. I managed around 15 miles, with around 600m of ascents. It took around 7 hours.
  • I have been on a week long scuba trip to the remote North-West of Scotland. It has been superb. I have got a number of hikes in as well. Diving is over now; I now have three days' hiking before heading back. There was no internet or mobile reception at the cottage. It was relaxing, although I have now moved to a hostel…
  • Tuesday I worked long hours, so all I had time for in the end was a 6 mile walk. Wednesday I had 15 minutes free over lunch, so I threw a kettlebell around a bit, doing 3 sets of 5 (goblet squat) and 100 swings with a 24k kettlebell. I went for a climb in the evening for about 100 minutes. This started well, but ended…
  • Climbing, 100 minutes. A relatively good session with some new sends at the v3 to v4 level. I fell off a lot as well
  • @AnnPT77 glad the recovery is going well! Friday Lifted, doing 3 sets of 8, squat, 70 kgs 3 sets of 5, deadlift, 110 kgs. Saturday I visited my parents for the weekend. That is why I didn't climb last week, as I was self isolating (my dad is in the high risk category.) It was great seeing them. I did a morning walk with my…
  • I did weighted pull ups, working up to +17.5 kgs. +20 kgs proved to be too much - I am weak. I was on the jugs on my hangboard, I think I find a bar slightly easier. My slightly random finisher was a few deadlifts @100 kgs.
  • I did a random selection of upper body things: Hangboarding. This was my first session in a while. It went OK, getting 10 seconds on the 15mm ledge. I then benched, doing 3 sets of 5 @ 55kgs.
