Probably not the most terribly helpful, but when there's a discrepancy, I try and err toward the entries with a higher calorie count, at least when they're relatively close. It definitely has gotten easier as I don't tend to have a *huge* variety in the stuff that I buy.

I started counting calories two months ago. I am well ahead of schedule. It's definitely doing what I ask of it, as long as I hold up my end.

Mind you I didn't go through all five pages of responses, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only Kansan here. I live in a small town of less than 100 in a 1200 square mile county with a population of about 4600. Officially the "middle of nowhere".
