Congrats on losing the first 20 lbs! You are well on your way! A couple of things to think about: - if you gained the last twenty pounds on the faster side you maybe never quite got used to carrying them. I gained about 15 pounds in the three months or so right before I got started so never really adjusted to carrying that…

Great job!! Very motivating for anyone who sees this post! Thanks

Agree with all. Getting out the door is sometimes the hardest part but you never ever regret doing it. Not doing it leads to regret

For me it’s daily average of 10,000 but on a monthly basis so 310,000 most months. Currently at 9800 daily average since March but trying to catch up. Some days I get only 4K while others 15k. I try to balance it every weekend if I’m shorter at least get close.

You got this- 50 in 2021 is young! I’m 60 and hate when people assume I’m too old for anything! Your original thinking was correct - you might be stiff and sore for a while but you’re body will adapt. Congrats on the new job and good luck!

Unless you have a real medical need to lose the weight quickly, 1200 calories seems really low- especially because you said 1600-1700 is really hard for you. Maybe try either somewhere in the middle like 1500 and lose a little more slowly (than at 1200) or do some days at 1600-1700 and some at the dr recommended 1200. I…

Wow- thanks. Sometimes I need a kick in the rear to get me moving and this was it for today!

Hi Mike At your height and weight the “calculated” weight loss without any working out would have been about 2 pounds in a month at 2500 calories. Barely noticeable on a scale depending on hydration etc on start day and weigh day. You don’t say how often or how long you strength train- but my guess is that you’re…

I completely agree with most of what’s here already - especially the post directly above. I don’t have much to add but wanted to say Congratulations!! This is huge! A major win! To illustrate how huge this is- when i started I couldn’t run/jog for 3 minutes - I used to go 400m (about 1/4 mile - jogging as much as I could…

Sometimes by sticking to it, the pride in yourself is a better treat! It’s up to you- no crime in either eating it or giving it away!

Didn’t read the entire thread yet so sorry if I’m repeating! I was born in’61 so I was there! People were definitely more fit then in general. A “fat” (and that’s the term used then) person was smaller then than an overweight person is now, and clearly obesity rates were much lower. This got me thinking so I did some…

Congrats on that first 7 lbs! Getting started is the hardest part!! 195 is a good goal. Also, as a pipe fitter you may be fairly muscular so may be ok even a little higher if you feel good when you get to 205 or so. I’m about 6’2” and was at 195 but feel better at 200. Doc said I was fine at 210 so I’m sticking 195-205…

Wonderful success! Congratulations! You have the right mindset (self-honesty) so you will crush your goals!

Sounds more like you are a training to become a young lady again with all that you’re doing!!! Keep at it! The nutrition piece to the puzzle was harder for me to get right. I tried to think in terms of “that bag of chips negates the calorie burn of three days in the gym” and that helped me avoid it-most of the time LOL!…

I have a few pairs of eyeglasses. One is way better as far as steaming. It has no frame on bottom and there is more space between my face and the glass. The others steam up instantly. They are also aweful for running because the sweat pours under and can’t drain. Try to get frames that leave a lot of distance between your…

First let me say that you sound like a great daughter- I’m sure your dad is proud! You said early retirement so I’m assuming your dad is not very old (by my old standards lol!) I just turned 60 and I have gotten in much better shape in the past three years but was in terrible condition, so I can relate to your dad’s…

I had so many misconceptions! I thought.....now I know; - exercise had to suck.....exercise is fun, helpful mentally as well as physically, and a great way to explore new things. - I could “burn” many more calories working out than I really do.....most of the exercise estimators I was using way overstate calories…

A famous saying in cycling circles I think coined by Greg LeMond one of the most famous is “It never gets easier, you just go faster.” Stay with it. Modify or find a different program that suits you better. Find ways to fix what’s wrong as you go (maybe different shoes, maybe hydration etc). It won’t get easier but you…

I don’t want to forget that I had no energy and couldn’t do simple things that I used to do ( clean the rain gutters, paint the second story windows etc). I thought this was due today age but I can do more stuff than I could ten years ago. I also don’t want to forget going to the store and buying anything that remotely…

Welcome Josh!! Lots of good advice here. Some of the folks are true experts on fitness and nutrition. You’ll learn a lot by browsing the threads. I do notice that different approaches work for different people, so experiment a little to find what suits you and your body. Love kshama2001’s comments. Especially “be patient”.…

Thanks for all the feedback! I decided to just not say anything. The folks who said I shouldn’t mention it seem very adamant in their opinions, so I’m concerned. Clearly some would be uncomfortable. Very interesting though- if it was a man- I wouldn’t have even thought about saying something. I just would have and I think…

Awesome!!! That’s a MAJOR accomplishment!!!

10-13 miles per day might be a huge daily increase unless your hiking 20 miles was done very often or on week-long adventures. If you were more of a weekend warrior it might be due to the repetitive everyday nature of it as well as the pavement v softer surface. Look up walking form techniques. I’ve never explored it too…

Thanks for posting this! I find it very interesting- what catches my eye is that your body fat percentage has barely changed. Do you feel different? Any change in clothing size?

It’s a very complex issue. You’ll get better and better. Keep working on it!! I still backslide all the time after years. But just keep moving forward and stop beating yourself up over it. At least now when I backslide I overeat on “better” food LOL! But seriously that helps too because I can’t go too far afoul if eating…

I can kind of understand the recommendations. But, these should viewed as loose- manageable and flexible enough for you to adhere. I’d view these as goal, which you expect to hit a majority but not all of the time. I’m assuming the protein at meals is minimum not absolute goal as well, but you won’t have much room for…

I feel ya about not knowing what weight I want to be! I’m still playing around with it after three years! I am not at “healthy” BMI but my doc said I was fine 10 lbs heavier than I am now. I’ve been in that sacred “healthy” BMI range (near the upper end LOL!) but I feel weak there. Now I’m about five lbs over. I do plan to…

I sweat a lot! For me, resistance stuff doesn’t cause anywhere near as much sweating as fast moving stuff. So if you’re doing calisthenics, dumbell lifts, core work like twists and planks do those in the office and save walking/running/cycling etc for before/after work.
