Start. NOW!! I lost about sixty lbs in six months 70 in six months is possible. It was approx half of what I needed to lose so I still had a long (still unfinished) journey ahead. It does depend on how much you have to lose- it gets much harder as you get leaner. To do it- try to think of big picture - not as a “diet” or…

One thing to always keep in mind- less than 23% of Americans get enough exercise!! So, although there may be some better runners than you, you’re likely a better runner than 77% of the population right there!!! I bought my wife a shirt that says “stronger than yesterday” because she often compares the amount of weight she…

Wow. And fast!! Amazing what three weeks can do!! Stay with it!!

I just did (too much lol!) math. According to MFP at slightly active I would need 2480 cals for maintenance. I work out 5-6 times a week burning approx 450-600 cals so I typically add that in as I do it. Now, trying to lose 1 lb a week, I’m eating approx 2200-2300 cals/day. This is to lose 1 lb/week approx (2480-500(for…

Keep doing well and you will see it soon!!

Thanks all! Seems like it’s possible for some but not others. ! I’m hoping that either I get so used to logging it won’t seem like a nuisance anymore- or I get so good at watching/planning I won’t need it. For me, it does seem to keep me honest with myself. I think that I was probably having like a million little snacks…

Ouch. Made a big mistake!! Oikos triple zero only has 3 grams of fiber!!!

I’ve been eating 647 bread by Schmidt’s. It’s got 7 grams of fiber per slice and only 40 cals. Doesn’t taste like much but as a carrier for peanut butter or avocado it’s not bad. Two slices at breakfast bring me almost halfway to fiber goal. Also, oikos triple zero Greek yogurt has seven grams fiber from chicory root…

Thanks for clarifying! I agree. I should have phrased it “more hypertrophy.”

Wow. Cool idea!!

Thanks for asking about this! I have a similar problem. I never found a real solution, so I’ll be following closely!! Whenever possible I work out in the evening to avoid overeating throughout the day. If I work out in the morning I find myself snacking (or wishing I was) all day long. Many of my gym friends don’t…

I’m no expert but I think if you go to lower weight with more reps it will still result in hypertrophy. Maybe some endurance gain from the high reps but if you want to avoid muscle growth while reaping the fat loss benefits, less reps at higher weight seems to be the way to go. Probably a post on the fitness and exercise…

Congrats on how far you’ve already come in your journey!! Most of the advice already given here is great. Just one comment about weightlifting. Weightlifting is great for fat loss. But if you are pressing 3x15 reps you are in a zone that is meant to cause muscle growth (hypertrophy). If you don’t want big muscles, you’re…

I carry all the stuff to replace a tube plus a thing called a multitool which comes in handy to fix things like broken brakes and a spoke tool. It even has a chain tool which would have come in handy before I started carrying it lol!! I also want to mention that sometimes a local bike shop will send someone if it isn’t…

If you have a meter is it safe to assume you have diabetes or pre diabetes? My wife has diabetes and we find that exercise especially HIIT dramatically affects this. She is actually a little higher blood sugar immediately after, but then lower several hours later and into the next day. If yes, likely you need a med…

Just get moving. If walking 1/4 mile is too much at first, walk1/8, take a short rest then walk again. Make a game of it. Something like this: Week 1 Walk 1/8 mile(or a time period by or number of steps). Take 3 min break. Walk1/8 mile etc. do this for a fixed time 30-45 minutes Next week or time period. Try to shorten the…

Hi. I’ve been putting mine under created workouts in cardio. At my box, the workout can burn many calories or not so many - depends on the day etc. So, on days where there is a partner WOD or skill training and or weights followed by a short WOD, I put 450 calories. On other days with longer WOd or I feel it was intense, I…

After many years of not working out, I started a pretty intense program. I was soooo sore I couldn’t even walk down the stairs at work so started taking the elevator down 1 flight!! My coworkers all teased me saying I was defeating the purpose of working out. After a few weeks it wasn’t as bad but I still get soreness…

I too suffered from “gymtimidation” as they called it in a TV ad for one of the big globe gyms, so I understand this well. After many years of procrastination I finally went to a group fitness HIIT type program. I was scared and I can’t explain why. The other members were mainly about 25-30 years younger and all seemed in…

You absolutely can’t outrun the fork!! But for me the exercise and eating well go hand in hand. If I’m not active, I tend to mindlessly snack. But when I workout I’m more in tune with my body and I seem to respect it more. So when I’m exercising regularly I tend to want to eat better. So even though the 80/20 thing is…

Thanks all. I have to keep my mouth shut and my heart open. That is even harder for me than going to the gym on a cold morning or passing on the pecan pie!! But I will do it and hope she has her own aha moment! If that happens, I know she will have to find her own way so I’ll answer when asked and only if asked. Funny how…

Amazing!! I won’t throw my scale away but will use it far less!!

Thanks for the quick responses. I feel like I already knew what the community would say when I posted but was wishing!!!

I haven’t started my quit smoking part yet but that’s coming soon! Good luck! You can do this!!

My mantra has been: “food is fuel.” I keep reminding myself when I want to reach for a bag of chips which provide lousy fuel. I like this OPs mantra for several reasons. Most importantly, it helps reinforce a positive body image and sense of health. An amazing human body should not be used as a garbage disposal to eat…

I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 1 1/2 years. It is great for me. I went from total couch potato to CrossFit 5 times a week. Lost 106 pounds in this time- changed eating habits of course but the CrossFit workouts sparked the eating changes- not the other way around! - be very straight with the coaches. Explain your…
