How many calories in a slice of Kraft Singles depends on the package size. Slices in a 12 oz package are 3/4oz (60 cal) and slices in a 16 oz package are 2/3oz (50 cal)

I rip it off as completely as I can as it gets messy if it remains. However, some lids are fitted so that they are snug when the film is on but then are loose when the film is removed and it's hard to know which ones are like that until it's too late. It is also REALLY annoying when a film has a pull tab but then the film…

I never liked lima beans as a child as my mother always used to cook them to death and they were always dry and unappetizing. Once I had fresh (properly cooked) lima beans I realized that I really like them.

At least in the US, we can now claim that some chocolate is now health food - https://fda.gov/food/cfsan-constituent-updates/fda-announces-qualified-health-claim-cocoa-flavanols-high-flavanol-cocoa-powder-and-reduced-risk

I just entered a weight with a decimal so seems like normal for me.

And I would add that unless stated otherwise, nutrition labels are as packaged. So weigh frozen.

@neanderthin The definition of "healthy" that was established in 1994 hasn't changed yet. The comment period for possible revisions to the definition of heathy has been extended to 2/16/2023. No actual changes to the regs have been made and will most likely take a while before anything becomes final. They take forever to…

I've been a member of both PF and the Y at different times. If all you are going to do is use machines and/or weights, then PF will probably be fine. If you enjoy group classes and the structure they provide, the Y will be the better option although it will cost more. And of course, PF locations do not have pools so if…

It's not surprising that the protein is lower. It is made from whey, not whey protein concentrate or isolate that is used in protein supplementation.

It's actually because it is made from goat's milk. True gouda is made from cow's milk.

Sorry - this one makes the article lose credibility for me. What does whether you can pronounce something have anything to do with how good it is for you? Ask 10 people on the street how to pronounce "acai" or "quinoa" and you will get all sorts of answers.

I have to stop reading this post. The pictures are making me hungry!

1 cup (a volume) is actually 237 (rounded) mL but is usually rounded to 240 mL for labeling purposes. It is also always 8 fluid oz (a volume measurement) but a lot of people get volume and weight confused. This is often the reason why many listings will be off. So a cup (8 fluid oz) may weigh 6 oz (avoirdupois or by…

You are correct - the news article I saw referenced the one above as well as the 2nd study.

They are not supposed to do that but it is probably the most common error on labels that I see. In the US, all Nutrition Facts labels are supposed to list a "common household measure" as part of the description for a serving since people don't always have access to a scale. For items in chunks/pieces, that would mean so…

Interesting but - There were 2 studies cited in the article. The first included a total of 16 participants and the 2nd was 137 firefighters (90% male) working 24 hour shifts. Not a lot of people in these studies and who knows if the info is applicable to people working "regular" hours. More study is needed.

In the US, servings sizes are dictated to food manufacturers by FDA, not something they just make up on their own. The only way a manufacturer can legally reduce the serving size is to reduce the size of the package. And if the package is small enough, they don't have to put the info on the package - just give you a…

If you eat out often, I would suggest looking up menus ahead of time if possible and tracking it before you go. I am less likely to over-order if I already know what fits into my daily calories. And if you can't - as you track more and more at home using a scale, eyeballing your serving in a restaurant will be easier.

I should have specified - my desktop is working fine. Just the app gave me yesterday as the default when I first opened it.

Mine is working fine although the default page was coming up as yesterday when I first looked at it.

I can so relate to this. For most of my life, I exercised to keep weight off but always ran into problems when I couldn't exercise. I kept eating the same and then gained it all back. I knew I needed to fix my diet but kept up the pattern for years. When it finally sunk into my brain that I cannot exercise away a bad diet,…

The only excuse I need to bring home cheese is that it's cheese. Enough said.

This appears to be more than the difference between measuring by volume vs weight. Probably a typo on the product - one of many out there.

This isn't a real product - at least not yet. It was part of a Twitter post by Lays with the mocked up picture and a hashtag of #fakeflavor.

Glad your method has worked for you. I just mentioned the water loss as a factor for those people who are assuming all of the weight lost is fat. It's not. Depending on the type of bacon (regular vs turkey for example), the water loss can be significant. The fat may remain in the pan but much of the water has evaporated.
