  • True or not, Grandma needs to stay out of this if she isn’t going to play nice. That is not acceptable to belittle a child.
  • I’m so glad your husband was able to help you see how valuable you are. I hope you can find a counselor to help you even more!
  • Other than cutting off an arm or leg (obviously not recommending this) there is little chance you can achieve that goal with anything resembling healthy habits. I’m 5’3 and started at 196 and it has taken me 4 months to lose 30 pounds and I’ve been pretty aggressive. Your long term health isn’t worth trying to win that…
  • Ditto making an apt with her doctor, preferably with her father also in attendance so he gets the same information at the same time from a third party. A lot of girls put on weight before puberty so it could be just normal changes or it could be something more, but these are things the doctor can help you with. How are…
  • After three pregnancies and 2 csections I have a pretty decent sized skin apron I’m dying to have removed. I’m down 30 pounds and it has decreased in size, but I don’t see it ever going away. I’m going to try to lose more weight and then get some consults and see if it is practical to have it done and if the financial cost…
  • I use the pacer app to properly count my steps. Outside of my intentional walks I am sedentary so I want “credit” for all of my steps. I install the app on my phone and then set it up. Then I come to MFP and have the Pacer App be the source for steps.
  • There are lots of things that have links to serious illness/disease/death. While I’m trying to improve my health and quality of life by losing weight I’m also not going to eliminate foods/food groups because I might get X disease or die Y years earlier (obviously I’m not talking about things like allergies or carbs/sugar…
  • The deal? It is delicious.
  • I like to look up the menu and nutrition information (where available) before we go out. That allows me to go to the restaurant with my decision made, or at least narrowed my options down. Steak, side salad and a baked potato is one of my go to meals.
  • There is being hungry and being STARVING. The first few weeks it is an adjustment and being somewhat hungry at times is pretty normal as your body adjusts to the new food intake. It is not as normal if you are STARVING all day, that is a sign something needs adjusted. 1700 calories plus exercise calories should be enough…
  • I’ve had three pregnancies with gestational diabetes, which is different than type 1 or 2, but does have some things in common. I could eat baked potatoes without a problem when paired with a good protein. I couldn’t handle any white bread but I could do a thin crust or cauliflower crust pizza. Barilla sells a protein…
  • I usually count yard work but not general housework (other than it being included in my step count). If I was doing hard core deep cleaning where I could tell my heart rate was elevated I might consider it...
  • It could be a combination of things. Too much too fast, worn out or ill fitting shoes would be my top two guesses. When I started walking (from pretty much sedentary, many days less than 3,000 steps) I had a lot of hip and calf tightness. I started stretching and got new shoes and it helped a lot. I find the tightness…
  • If it works for you, great! But by accounting for your activity in your calories you are really eating back your exercise calories to a point, just in a roundabout way. 😋
  • That sounds about right to me. It certainly isn’t dangerously low but you will want to keep an eye on it and adjust as needed (up or down) depending on how it goes long term.
  • If you have 10k+ steps the vast majority of days you have the option of not connecting your Fitbit (so no “extra”exercise calories) but you would need to set your activity level hat active or highly active in MFP and then choose how slow or fast you want to lose weight.
  • Walking, yoga, Pilates, some body weight exercises... even high impact exercises can be modified to be low/lower impact. Try a bunch of things until you find one you like!
  • OMG I thought my 2,000 minutes of exercise was a stretch!!!!!
  • I have a Series 3 Apple Watch (not exactly cheap) but I’m so happy I have it. I bought mine in mid-May and my first few weeks were eye opening as far as how little I move during the day (3,000ish average). A friend posted on June 1 that they had closed all of their rings (activity = calories burned, exercise = intentional…
  • Can you switch to Diet Dr Pepper to fill the craving but avoid the calories? I would also examine your protein shakes. For me personally (and you may very well be different) I never fill fully satisfied when I drink my calories, I need to chew and swallow my food. What kind of chicken sandwiches are you having? Can you…
  • The Reese Cup shapes (pumpkin, Christmas tree, etc.) are infinitely better but I still love regular Reese Cups. My FAVORITE is Reese Pieces.
  • As long as your goal is set up for you to lose weight then the calorie deficit is built into that number.
  • If you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight, no matter what your macros are.
  • You look the same to me in all of them.
  • This is about a 23 pound difference. My weight shows a lot in my face... I still have 6 pounds to reach my first goal and I would like to lose another 11 before I reevaluate. I’m short so I would still be overweight, but I don’t want to be miserable trying to maintain a super low weight.
  • I’m down 25 pounds and while I still have a way to go my knees can touch when I stand up and my lower legs are straightening back out (previously knock kneed from extra weight). I can easily cross my legs at the knee and not be uncomfortable or have my top leg slip down. These have all been slowly changing but I’ve just…
  • I eat what I want when I want as long as it fits within my calories. Every few weeks I’ll have a meal (not a full day) that will put me over my daily limit but not over maintenance. If I do a full day of eating what I want I could easily do some damage.
  • I have PCOS and it has not affected my weight loss. Birth control helped regulate my cycles when I was not trying to get pregnant but I did require fertility meds to get pregnant. I had gestational diabetes with of my pregnancies, PCOS is a risk factor for that, along with age, and weight so it wasn’t a shock. I’ve tested…
  • Fast is not always better. I’ve lost 24 pounds since June 6 by a calorie deficit and “only” waking as my exercise. And I still eat cookies and chips and pizza (gasp). No reason to be miserable while we improve our health, so if more vigorous workouts aren’t enjoyable or appropriate walking is absolutely a good idea.
