got to admit I wouldn't mind the bod you already have, but my plan is lower carb/higher proteins (for my diabetes), lots of walking (thanks to work and my love of photography on days off) and going into my very basic gym and throwing some dumbbells about alongside some bodyweight stuff and resistance bands

There's two ways you can do this. Either go with the goals MFP sets or go to a TDEE calculator, input height and weight and knock off your 500 calories.

Personally I tend to eat my daily calories or just under then log my exercise just before I complete diary (my tracker is not linked). Then I know if I want a pizza/beer night I can do it guilt free and go over that one day
