I guess that the problem lies in the use of ratios rather than absolute values and the assumption that people always want to eat the calories they burn off - but I see your point Redordead - thanks for taking the time to reply.

yes I did thanks for the answer. This doesn't make sense though, it defeats the intention of goal setting... The only solution I found was to decouple MFP completely from apple health rather than pay a premium prescription (I'm only using it to count macros - so it's too expensive just for that feature).
