  • @Krysless Whoops, this should be for Thursday. Don’t mind me, I’m just flakey like that…. Naomi9271 Week 2, Day 4 Wednesday 07/14
  • Naomi9271 Week 2, Day 4 Wednesday 07/14 Tracked: Yes Under calories: No Exercise: Yes A little (50) over calories today. Felt like I needed it, so I ate a little extra. Probably TOM related. I could have made it up with a little exercise, but I didn’t want to tie my exercise to my diet…seems like they should be unrelated…
  • There are some really good videos online about how to improve your bike fit. I like the series Cam Nichols on YouTube does with bike fitter Neill Stanbury. I’m going to try to link one of them here https://youtu.be/vMmbXAWcgh4
  • Naomi9271 Week 2, Day 3 Tuesday 07/13 Tracked: Yes Under calories: Yes Exercise: Yes Doing a structured training plan to make me stronger. Today’s workout was pretty hard. Hoping the weather is better tomorrow so I can go back outside and take a break from it (LOL). @KakoHikes Betcha it’s your loss that brought it down,…
  • Naomi9271 Weigh in day Wednesday Week 2 PW 145.2 CW 142 This is the last of that mysterious and sudden scale weight gain coming back off. Now I am back to where I would have been if it never happened and I had been losing week to week consistently. So weird. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again….it was difficult to get…
  • Week 2, Day 2 Monday 07/12 Tracked: Yes Under calories: Yes Exercise: Yes Inside again (it’s like a sauna here). Another try for the virtual group ride (D) and kept up for 48 min of the hour ride until I gave up. So hot and sweaty and tired but also getting closer!!! Hopeful by next week I’ll be able to actually finish…
  • Week 2, Day 1 Sunday 07/11 Tracked: Yes Under calories: Yes Exercise: Yes Inside again. Tried a virtual group ride (D) and got dropped in 20 minutes. On the plus side, it took them 20 minutes to drop me. I will be back (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice).
  • I suggest adding in body measurements as well as scale measurements. On the tab where you chart your weight, you can also log your waist, hips and neck measurements. Sometimes those will be changing while your scale measurements are not. That’s been the case for me, at least.
  • Week 1 Day 7 Saturday 10 July Tracked: yes Under calories: yes Exercise: yes Back inside. We’ve been having the crazy summer storms that flood the bike paths this week. It’s either 90+ or the rain is coming down in buckets….choose one. I’m really glad the inside training has been so much fun, or I’d be in trouble. Thank…
  • Week 1 Day 6 Friday 9th July Tracked: yes Under calories: yes Exercise: yes Finally got to ride outside again. And passed two unbelievably cute fawns on the way. Poor guys were on the other side of the path by themselves, and finally figured it out and ran back into the trees just before I got there. My issue with the…
  • Are you on crutches? If so, been there. Best advice is don’t rest your weight under your arms. Let your biceps take the toll.. Kinda like horse riding, where your legs take the weight from your backside. Hope you feel better soon!!!
  • Hi @KakoHikes! I’m an early morning exerciser, so you’ll see me post right after @NRtyreman, who is earlier than me  I like exercising I’m the morning because my brain hasn’t woken up enough to argue about it too much. Plus there’s not much better in life than a pot of coffee before you and your exercise behind you.…
  • Week 1 Day 5 (so confused @Krysless2, is this right?) Thursday 8th July Tracked: yes Under calories: yes Exercise: yes Another indoors day. There was no morning coolness to catch. On the plus side, I’m actually entertained by my indoor training, so I’ve managed to keep it up. Drove past one of the gyms…getting closer…
  • @Machka9 Yes, that’s a pretty good estimate for a ride averaging around 100W/hr.
  • Week 1 Day 2 Wednesday 7th July Tracked: yes Under calories: yes Exercise: yes Indoors bike trainer. We are still hot outside, and I didn’t get up early enough to catch the morning coolness. @Krysless2 I put things in the freezer for similar reasons. What’s there now, for example, is 1/4 of an apple pie….leftovers from…
  • Getting a decent saddle. By far. (Though I haven’t got the power meter yet  ) I have an ISM saddle now, FWIW.
  • Just going to say, unless you run a regular route, the chances of you seeing any of these people ever again in your life is slim to none. So who cares what they think? (But honestly what they’re very likely to think is, “what a good idea, I should do that too.”) Love the jump rope suggestion made above. I’ve seen bikes…
  • Username: naomi9271 Weigh in week 1: Wednesday PW: 147 CW: 145.2 Wow, congratulations to RunTrackMinds!!!! So many amazing winners!! Yesterday was my rest day. Workmen all over my house, as I’m having my front porch remodeled. They’ll be working outside today, thank goodness.
  • I’ve been using ERG mode for the increased cadence intervals to keep my power the same. That is very hard for me to do…it is so tempting to shift I have to keep my hands on the flat bars so I don’t do it without thinking. Well, to be honest a lot of the motivation for getting better at high cadences is that I’ve been…
  • @NorthCascades Best thing? Wow, that’s a strong endorsement. I’d been eying them anyway…. I started the FTP ramp test, but shamefully wimped out, as I wasn’t mentally prepared or anticipating the degree of torture :) Got a result of 130 from what I did do. But now I know what to expect, I should do it again. It’s such a…
  • @sijomial Yeah….you’re dead on with the 70W. That’s from an erg’d Zone 1 ride. Figured I work at least that hard outdoors on average. I’m also a naturally slow cadence rider… around 75 or 80 rpm by preference. I’ve been doing the FTP training classes and the higher cadences still kill me (working on it, though). That and…
  • @heybales True….hmmmm. Ok, HR matching if possible makes sense, unless I run into a bear of course :)
  • @Waifer003 OMG you completely cracked me up with this, and I totally relate. “an intense Covid-related baking incident”
  • Sounds like you all agree that the power meter is the way to go from the data I have. I have a smart trainer indoors, but no independent power meter for my bikes when used outdoors. I can’t imagine there’s a gigantic difference, so I’ll use the indoor burn rate (~250/hr) for now and look into getting a power meter for…
  • @Krysless2 same same with what NRTyreman said. I had my calorie burn measured by the power meter on my smart trainer (Watts of work translated to calories used) and it’s about 1/4 of what’s measured by heart rate trackers and 1/2 of what I’ve been using for my burn rate calculations for outdoor cycling (Harvard study).…
  • Hi all, I’m Naomi. Here to lose the last of the weight I let slip up on me over the past couple of years. Weighing day is Wednesday. July Goals -Don’t get psyched out by the scale so much. (LOL, this is still my biggest issue by far) -Bike at least 50-60 miles or 5 hours each week. -Be more active during the day outside…
  • Username: naomi9271 Week: Friday (Week 5 of June) PW = 143.4 CW = 147 Sorry, guys. I am afraid this number will undo all the good work the rest of you did this week. But that’s what the scale says.
  • Week 5 Day 5 Wednesday 1st July Tracked - Yes Under cals - No Exercise - Yes Last night here, so fancy dinner to celebrate. Over calories; right around maintenance. We all have our days where we’re not perfect. Probably because we are all human and shouldn’t expect perfection. The battle isn’t for perfection. It’s to make…
  • Week 5 Day 4 Tuesday 29th June Tracked - Yes Under cals - Yes Exercise - Yes Exercise was the hotel pool, plus some wandering around town. Another scorcher of a day. Only kept under calories this time because the restaurant meal was awful. Should have guessed…a Mexican place named Montezuma…should be named Montezuma’s…
  • Week 5 Day 2 Monday 28th June Tracked - Yes Under cals - Yes Exercise - Yes No scale in the hotel, and no local gym! @Krysless2 I might have to give my weigh-in on Friday :( . Exercise was the hotel treadmill. Way too hot to walk much outside. It was 95 (35c). @NRTyreman, 🤩 So many wins in such a short paragraph. You…
