I had to buy a new belt. I made it past the shortest hole in the old one.

Thanks for the well wishes. My knee problems result from combination of genetics (it runs in the family) and playing a lot of rec-league hard-on-knees sports while too heavy. I used to play a lot of soccer and basketball into my mid 40s. I've never found running particularly fun, but I do like cycling and have in the past…

I also started my journey at a similar weight, 135 kg. As a 54yo who had one knee replacement in February and will have the other done on October, spare your knees as much as possible early in this process. The rule of thumb is every additional kilo adds 4 kilos of stress to the joint. So work on your cardio via elliptical…

OK, I just finished reading through the full text of the study. Interesting, and a lot more nuanced than the Stat News article. The hot button issue seems to be the claim that losing weight does not seem to "correct" the brain response to nutrient intake. Let me point out a few things. 1. The study shows there is a…

Wegovy/Ozempic/Semaglutide all the same drug, and it was developed to treat diabetes. It absolutely affects your endocrine system. So very clearly more than just an appetite suppressant. The human endocrine system is… I think the medical term is “black magic?” In other words, some parts of what the drug is doing is better…

Either should be good enough as an estimate, but they will be different because they use slightly different proprietary formulas based on calories burned by people with similar body composition in similar activities. I find that as long as my stats and goals are current in both MFP and my wearable, I get similar results,…

I like to make a pot of chili and portion out servings into individual containers and freeze them. I can grab one in the morning for lunch, and microwave it at work. But, even if you don't have a microwave at work, it'll come to room temp and be edible, if not hot.

Congratulations on beginning your journey to better health. I am following a plant based low caloric density diet, and logging meticulously. This ends up being very low in animal fats such as dairy, and low in refined sugars and bread, but ample high fiber carbs from fruits, veggies, beans, and whole grains. I do eat…

I feel you. Bingeing is my eating disorder too. Care to talk about the trigger this time? Something specific, or was it just an opportunistic beginning that you are having trouble getting out of?

Mounjaro and Ozempic can only be prescribed for a Type2 Diabetes diagnosis. Wegovy requires an obesity diagnosis that, at least for my insurance, meant a BMI over 40. All seem to be effective for weight loss. All are expensive at around $1200/month (without insurance.) Also, it seems that a majority of patients who stop…

Exactly this. Mounjaro and the Semaglutide drugs all ramp up to the standard dose over about 3-4 months.

I am also on wegovy, for 4 weeks now. I weigh every day and can say the weight comes off in a down 2 up 1 pattern. As mentioned above, it does tend to go up on the day after a resistance workout. It also goes down big the morning after big endurance workouts but rebounds small the day after that. Just keep working the…

In my 4th week. 10 pounds so far. It greatly reduces appetite, but doesn’t do the work for you. No physical hunger, but the emotional urge to binge still there. I’ve had no side effects, tho I hear nausea is common at the beginning. Good luck and keep reasonable xpectations. Y

The study I cited above concluded "Semaglutide improved fasting and postprandial glucose and lipid metabolism." The study also finds the reduced blood sugar spikes your quote discusses. In fact, the reduced spikes are considered evidence of improved metabolism. Sure, It's only one study. But I am having a similar…

It's always a valid concern. But I am less concerned about corruption and fraud by the authors as I am about research into possible contradictions simply not being funded. The other study, that I complained did not report on the fraction of subjects who were successful in maintaining weight loss, was also funded by Novo -…

You are correct to point out that CICO always applies. But Semaglutide is demonstrably improving or 'speeding up' metabolism. This affects the CO side of the equation. It also massively affects appetite, which improves the CI side of the equation.

Read that thread. I thought it was a pretty robust discussion. You seem to be a vocal advocate for resistance training, which is admirable. I too think it is a very valuable part of a weight loss program. However, I would like to point out that many of us who are being prescribed wegovy for obesity are dealing with some…

I’ve been on wegovy for three weeks. The drug kills my appetite to such an extent that 2000 calorie a day deficits are comfortable (I did once by not paying attention). I use a tracker and MFP to stay at about a 800 kcal daily deficit which is still very rapid weight loss. It’s powerful and should be treated with respect.…

I am indeed starting strength training as part of my effort for this reason. I read some recommendations that said strength training and increased protein intake can mitigate this. That said, I’m in my 50s and not particularly bothered with muscle mass at a cosmetic level. I just want to be more active and able to hiking…

Congrats on the loss so far. I started Wegovy 3 weeks ago. @crewcutbear I have same concerns about maintenance after treatment. But I have a long way to go before I come to that bridge.

First off, congrats for everyone taking steps to get more healthy. Here's the link to the study that showed 60% weight regain after stopping semaglutide. The important thing to remember about this study is that the 60% number is the mean for the experimental group of about 200 people. Meaning, not everyone regained 60%.…
