  • Top tip! Keep a list of the weights of the pots and pans you most often use. That way, all you need to do when you've finished cooking is weigh the full pan and subtract the weight of the pan. I was always forgetting to weigh the pan before I started cooking, so doing this has made things so much less hassle. :-)
  • My goodness, what a rough time you've had. Be kind to yourself for the weight you gained. We're always just doing the best we can with the tools we have available; I really believe that when we gain weight in tough times, it's because our brains are trying to take care of us the best they can in kind of a primeval way. The…
  • My story is so similar to yours! Mine started a little earlier, when I injured my knee training for my second half marathon. I'd gone from having to take a breather half way up the stairs to running 13 miles without stopping and I was so proud of that. When the injury meant I couldn't run anymore, I think I lost who I was.…
  • This is brilliant. Love it!
  • One thing I forgot to specifically mention is that eating balanced meals might help. (I know, yawn) First time around, when I lost half my body weight, I was mad into focussing on protein. So while I wasn't cutting out carbs or doing keto or anything like that, I ate a lot of meals that had protein and fats but very few…
  • Good advice here, but chipping in with an alternative strategy, coz it's good to have a range of tools in your healthy eating kit. I am/was(?) a comfort eater, and I used to struggle with eating at night too. I was never really able to distract myself from it with other fun things, unless I was already deeply engrossed in…
  • Eating cuz you ate is a horrible mindset to be in. You just ate a tonne of stuff, and now you're miserable, so you eat more. It's really hard to get out of. Ultimately, the way to do this is to learn when and why you binge and to cure the cause rather than the symptoms. I can really recommend The Binge Eating Therapist on…
  • I always find it tricky to divide a dish up into servings, since, in our house, we have different appetites and often go for seconds. I can't say accurately how many servings a dish is. So, once I've entered all the weighed and measured ingredients in the recipe builder and cooked the dish, I weigh the WHOLE dish (minus…
  • Echoing what everyone else is saying, just do it a small step at a time. I lost a lot of weight 6 years ago and have put an awful lot of it back on. Permanent injury hugely impacted how and how much I could exercise, and then Covid saw me return to disordered eating. I had therapy for that, but it meant letting go and…
  • I lost more than 100 pounds a few years ago. Injury and covid have made me put a lot of it back on, so the differences feel somehow starker to me. The biggest one was how differently people treat you when you are a 'normal' weight. I don't think I'm imagining that they were kinder, politer and more courteous. I got so much…
  • We're big fans of the fakeaway in our house, and there are plenty of recipes on the internet. You can prepare or make lots of them ahead of time and either finish them off or ping them so that they're not quite as easy as dialing the kebab shop but nearly! I also have my calorie goals set up so that I have lots of extra…
  • I tried to post a screenshot to make it clearer, but mfp isn't having it. I THINK what is happening is that my watch decides at some point that I'm walking briskly and for long enough that it can log my walking as a workout. Even when I tell it not to. Then there are steps for just getting about each day. The latter…
