I have read all of the comments with interest and sympathy for those who struggle with food. I feel that whatever people can do to make their quality of life better is great. I will never judge others for being on a path I know nothing about. Good luck to everyone with their struggles.

I turned 70 in May and for the last 30 years, I have gained and lost the same 15 lbs. I quit smoking at 40 and from then on it's been a struggle. I'm in good shape and live on a small farm, so I'm pretty active, but I'm disgusted with myself for having such little will power. It's night time that is hard for me. Even if…

Hi there, I'm almost 70 (May) and I'm trying to lose just a little bit. It seems like it gets harder and harder as we get older. Let's do this together. There are many folks on here that help, so what a great resource. Good luck!

I agree with tomcustombuilder. It takes a tremendous amount of exercise to burn 300-700 calories. I bet this could be part of your problem.

I visited a Nutritionist a year or so ago and she suggested 1200 calories a day. I had my annual physical last week and the PA wasn't too thrilled about such a low amount, but I'm almost 70 and do mild exercise. I do ride my horse and throw 50 lb bags of grain around, but no more Jazzercise (sadly). When I went to…

It can be so frustrating when we watch what we eat and the lbs don't drop off. I haven't lost anything this week, so I understand how you feel. Stay strong, we're all in this together!

What the hell???

It's not just kids, age will do it too. I'm 69, going to be 70 in May and sometimes I tell myself I should eat whatever I want, because maybe I won't be around later and missed out on the pie and cake. But then my clothes start getting tight and I have a hard time getting up on my little horse and that's my motivation.…

Put on some pants that used to fit you but are now uncomfortable as heck. Wear them all day and torture yourself. How my clothes fit is always a motivating factor for me. Be sure to sit down and put your shoes on and off a couple of times. Ugh.

I quit smoking 29 years ago at the age of 40. I have been losing and gaining back the weight since then. I'm probably on track for losing again for the 6th time (maybe more, but I don't really want to know). I lose the weight and then go right back to eating whatever I want and it comes back. Stupid, I know. Even the last…

Thanks for the suggestions :)

It's so hard sometimes, isn't it? It just feels like a cloud over your head that follows you around. Good advice here for sure, and that old saying: take one day at a time, is probably the best. Just one day, you can get through just one day. Then the next day. You can get through just one more day. Good luck. We know how…

I used this a couple of times. The first time was way back in 1994 when I quit smoking and promptly gained 20 lbs. I lost it quickly due to using the point system and walking 3 miles a day religiously. I was always hungry when using the point system, but I am now as well. I'm currently eating 1200 cal. a day and I seem to…

I seem to get full really fast, so I quit eating. Then, a couple hours later I'm hungry. This has been going on for the last couple of years. I'm 69 and it seems like this has happened as I've gotten older.

Yes, and that's why I'm back (again). I quit smoking at 40 and promptly gained lbs. I am now 69 and I have lost and gained it back more than 6 times over the last 29 years. You would think I would learn, but after I lose, I just go back to the way I was eating. Every time I tell myself that I won't gain it back, and I do.…

Thanks for your comments. My scale is not bluetooth synced. I manually enter in my weight on the website. I will double check my settings, and I will definitely be giving more thought to the answer given to me by you, mtaratoot. It is time to stop losing and regaining the same weight over and over. I've done this about 5-6…

I have a friend in Ireland and she needs to lose stones, and I need to lose lbs. We also have to translate our temps because I use Fahernhiet and she uses Celsius. Wherever we're from, we all face the same challenges. I'm back to where I was in July of 2022, so starting all over again. I keep gaining and losing the same…

Oh how I wish that I liked yogurt! Unfortunately, I just can't stand the stuff, not even in smoothies. I made a banana smoothie one night with a mix from the grocery store which was very filling but I almost fell out of my chair when I added up the calories.

I'm stuck too. I only have 5 lbs to go and it's reluctant to leave me.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions! I've started eating some grapes in the evening when I want a snack. They seem to work for me because they're sweet and filling. I also have found some apple crisps in the frozen section at Safeway that are only 170 calories. They're basically a cup of sweet cooked apples…

I have this exact problem as well. Sometimes sweet, seedless grapes will do the trick, but I struggle with these cravings too.

The last 5 lbs are difficult for me as well. I'm just kind of stagnating.
-
I'm at 1200 calories per day and it's tough I know.
-
I'm eating 1200 calories a day. When I first started, I found that at the end of the day sometimes I had quite a few calories left over so I would eat some red grapes and string cheese or something light like that. Good advice above. Good luck!

This is excellent advice. I have just recovered from Covid after a month of being ill. I had lost 11 lbs in 2 months, and have gained back a little because I was SO hungry while I was sick and thought that it would be best to take a break and give my body time to heal. I think our bodies need a break, especially when we're…

I realized my error after re-reading my post! Let me rephrase: I will gain inspiration from the ladies and gentlemen on here. Thanks :-)

Okay, I am down 11 lbs since July 2, when I returned to MFP. The last time I was here was in 2012 and my goal was only 5 lbs. How the years fly by and we gain weight. I just turned 68 in May and I have developed a terrible habit of late night snacking over the last 5-6 years. Quitting the LNS helped me lose the 11 lbs, but…

I like string cheese for a snack. It's only 80 calories per piece and I have found that if I eat a couple, it curbs any hunger pangs, I also like the Quaker Oats little mini rice cakes. I get the sweet chili flavor and it's 130 calories for 16 of them. My nutrionist suggested that I eat them together, but one or the other…

Better than being addicted to cake and pie like I am...

Your arms aren't big at all, but I know how you feel. If you want to see someone with big arms, look at my profile picture. You can't miss those huge biceps. I hate them, but I do everything as I should for exercise, so they are what they are. All of us are critical of our bodies I think.
