  • Hi Long time user of MFP, doing the C25k (zen labs). Did week 5 day 3 - 20 minutes - this morning. Honestly thought i would struggle, but I did manage! I did a 50k charity walk last year in 8.5 hours so no stranger to long distance walking but I've not run since school many years ago. Got fed up there was so few events for…
  • Hi, I bought mine to try and encourage me to be more active during the day. My exercise consists of a rowing machine and a recumbent bike at home, which I record using an old HRM. I'm not sure mine has helped me lose weight over what I was doing before, but having a desk job isnt the best for my health so it does give me a…
  • Another day long desk aitter here. i am lucky to have some colleagues who like walking, although I get reined back for route marching them, and we have a couple of routes we do. If I don't manage that, I will walkround the group of buildings at least once. I read in last months wired magazine that cold air is an aid to…
  • Would suggest a more substantial breakfast - I couldn't live on one or two bits of toast! Shredded wheat, or oatmeal/porridge are always good and for those of us who have no time with little ones to fix up a protein rich breakfast! Grab some handfuls of nuts during the day - I make up some fruit and nut mixes for that…
  • This, don't beat yourself up about not affording a HRM just yet. Make sure you take body measurements as well as your weight, and monitor for a month.
  • Hi, i have a water rower, it's nearly two years old now, but I echo the other poster. The cheap rowers feel awful, and I think i wouldnt use them. The rowing motion is incredibly important to your motivation and enjoyment! I went with a water rower over a concept2 as i thought it would be quieter, mine is in the spare room…
  • Exoerienced this for the first time last night. When I declined a full fat hot choc at my camera club I got a barrage of quesitons as to why not and foolishly said I was losing weight so had switched to the low cal equivalent which they don't have. Got the whole 9 yards of "you didn't need to lose weight" despite the fact…
  • Mostly portion sizes in my case, McDonalds has always given me indigestion! That said I could eat halfway through a packet of cheddar whilst grating it without thinking - I still eat a bit whilst grating it but it's a thin sliver, and much less on the plate. I still have a weakness for custard creams and bourbon biscuits..…
  • Another vote for chest strap & HRM - I was taking CardioTrainer's word for my calorie estimates and they were slightly too high - e.g. 30 mins cycling is about 150 for me, not 178 it was telling me.
  • I'm 39 same height, was also 12 1/2 stone at the start of July - lost a stone and a bit since :) Way to go yet but I'm getting there - good luck - there's plenty of inspiration to be had on here!
  • 147 today, lost 2 this week, 3 in the 2 weeks so far
  • slow cooked lamb shanks in a red wine sauce - from the BBC good food website. Tastes a million dollars with mash! We also do slow cooked pork in it every couple of weeks and after trying a beef roasting joint in there for the family are sold on that too.
  • Awesome, you should be very proud - well done, and I'm very motivated by your post!
  • 149, down 1. Doubt I'll do 10 in 5 weeks as I'm plodding at a 1lb ish a week, but I'll get there eventually!
  • Exercise is the way to go - I'm a snacker and will eat around 500-600 cals on (mostly healthy) snacks each day (and my net intake is around 1200 a day), I ate nearer 600 today so went for a 3.5 mile walk in my lunch hour and will do half an hour rowing this evening - it'll be about right then. Best of luck!
  • 150 (had to get the calculator out as my MFP weight is in kg!)
  • My rower! Having two small children means going out for "proper" exercise on a bike out is difficult. I only really get chance to exercise when they are asleep and I've got the chores done, or I'll do a 3.5mile walk in my lunch hour when at work. I do have a recumbent bike at home too so I alternate that and the odd wii…
  • I will remember this for Saturday, which I'm dreading. Husbands family are coming over and sil always dishes up big portions so I know there will be lots of comments about the size of ours.. I'm not better or worse than them I have just made a choice to "feel better about myself". It'll probably still get misconstrued…
  • I'm not a runner, my knees hate it and I am about 25lbs overweight, but I just wanted to say your weight loss is inspirational! I personally am a fan of fast walking, despite being a little 5'2" I can do 3.5 miles in my lunch hour, which is enough to get the heart raised sufficiently for fat burning. I hear you regards…
  • Live in Northants but work in Milton Keynes, did live in MK for about 8 years too. I'm often walking the redways at lunchtime :-)
