May I recommend drinking your water from a fine pint glass, then you may imagine that you are enjoying a frosty pint of lager, which I find enhances the experience, especially at work. Cheers!

I just have to chime in and say that absolutely, positively, not all yoga is strictly isometric. In one posture of my 60 minute hot yoga class, we are asked to use ~20% effort. Otherwise, it's full-on contraction of the muscles. And it is HEAVEN ON EARTH, imo. It's the sweatiest, loveliest thing I've ever done. It feeds my…

I read something recently regarding inflammation in the body. I think the point being made was that some people can be healthy while carrying a lot of extra weight but that this can be attributed to the lack of inflammation in their bodies. Another thing I read talked about the relationship between inflammation and heart…

Happy anniversary! Relax and enjoy it! I'm celebrating 5 years later this month, also in Dallas (although we are getting away to S.Padre to celebrate)

^^^AMEN!!^^^ Wow, the support in this community is pretty awesome!

Yes, I will agree with dmgaloha! If your carb grams minus your fiber grams stays under 100 for the day, you WILL lose weight, even if your calories are over the limit that mfp gives you. This works like a charm for me when I can stick to it. Just be sure to include lots of fresh veg -- avoid eating a whole bunch of meat,…

Thanks for posting; I think I'm going to start taking some body measurements. I find day-to-day fluctuations can be up to 2lbs for me, and I think it usually has to do with water weight. I'll drop 2lbs after a 90 minute hot yoga class but the next day, I'll gain most or all of it back, after I've sufficiently rehydrated.…

With limited time, the variable you have the most control over is your intake. You can add a bit more calorie burning with the great suggestions people have posted here. But in my opinion, it's of the utmost importance that you either watch your calories or your carbs like a hawk. At least, that's been my experience; I'm…

I second Ferbabe's vote for the Champion bras (I use the one without underwire). Make sure you get one that fits very snugly. I get the best results when I feel like it's a bit too tight when I first put it on. I'm a full C with a great big engine block 38 ribcage, even at my most trim. The Champion bra fits me very well…

For what it's worth, I'm not counting fat grams at all, just "effective carbs", equal to carb grams - fiber grams. I find if I limit that total number to 50-100g each day, I lose weight. I do count calories, too and stay pretty close to my daily goal most days. I think this is only possible if you can eat lots of veggies…

Yogurt does really well past its date, in my experience. Maybe it's the cultures. I agree with 1a1a, trust your eyes and nose.

Ditto on the fruits & veg -- find fresh stuff that you like and snack on that. I feel like really going for quality food helps you feel more satisfied. In my book, that means more organics/farm fresh local foods and less processed/packaged foods. The hardest part for me is breaking the habitual eating -- like you mentioned…

Yeah, we are hurting. But it's nice to know that it's raining somewhere not terribly far away! HA, do that rain dance and enjoy it!

Thanks Arkansas -- could you send some of those rain clouds to Texas??

I also wonder about the stuff that they don't include in the "nutrition facts." What do the cells in raw veggies have to offer us versus what makes up a Twinkie? I think there must be a lot more to food than the stuff we (and by "we" I mean scientists :) ) have been able to quantify.

This is great. I saw something the other day that said: "Eat less. Taste more." It made me realize how little I really taste what I'm eating most times. I almost ALWAYS eat way too fast.
