Thanks for the responses! I'm just trying to make as much of an effort that I can, and I really want to be succesful.

I use pet names all the time! I've worked at gas stations where I wasn't sure if the person in front of me was a male or female, and even when it was obvious it was one or the other dressed as the other gender I tried to not offend.
