  • You can make your own almond milk and it's actually pretty easy. You may also be able to find almond Milk without these added ingredients. They aren't because of the almond milk itself, they are added to it during production.
  • Then you become lactose intolerant and should stop drinking milk lol
  • All of your arguments are strawman arguments. You haven't addressed milk, what we're talking about. Humans since the dawn of time are hunter/gatherers. we are predators. We don't have ANY food that was "meant" for us. We take what we can get, and use it.
  • Do you know what's in breast milk? Do you know what it's benefits are? I'll give you a starting point.. people like to argue that we shouldn't drink cow's milk because it has lactose, and we had to "evolve" to tolerate it. Guess what.. the carbohydrates in breast milk ARE MOSTLY LACTOSE!
  • Fat = drink skim GMO's = why is that a bad thing? They become more resistant to diseases, produce more per livestock, etc.. nature has been practicing genetic modification for a long, long, time, and we're just using our big brains to facilitate the process. Hormones = Bovine growth hormone and IGF are protein hormones and…
  • You can get lots of stuff from lots of different sources. that doesn't explain why it isn't nutritious though. Ball is still in your court.
  • Natural calcium, natural proteins (great for building muscle), natural vitamins.. what ISN'T nutritious about milk? Edit" here let me get you started: "Milk is bad because of growth hormones" My response: Bovine growth hormone and IGF are protein hormones and they're cleaved into their constituent amino acids by your…
  • http://theprimalparent.com/2012/05/16/additives-almond-milk-how-to-make/ Almond Milk looks worse and worse the more I look at it.. that extra calcium is CHALK! Calcium Carbonate – This is a non organic, non-living mineral source of calcium and, most of the time, it is just plain chalk! That’s right- you are consuming chalk…
  • Almond milk also has Carrageenan, which I try to stay away from. Dr. Blaylock says about carrageenan (Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life; pg. 196): "Carrageenan is a rather new additive. It is a complex polysaccharide extract made from seaweed, and is used as a binding agent. Experimentally, carrageenan…
  • Granted, store-bought almond milk contains more calcium than cow's milk, but it's because of the added calcium carbonate. It also has a nice amount of Vitamin E in it, in addition to a decent number of micronutrients. But almond milk only has about one-eighth the amount of protein as cows milk, as well as lacking the…
  • Maybe other animals aren't smart enough to advantage of nutritious milk from other sources.
  • Which you would have to eat almost a metric ton of to go over your macros! And not to mention how full you'd feel eating so many good veggies..
  • http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/aint_so_bad_foods_that_have_gotten_a_bum_rap&cr= "Yes, I drink almond milk occasionally. It has virtually no carbs in it, so I guess it's a good dieter's drink. It also has a nice, nutty taste. However, it doesn't stack up all that well against regular cow's milk.…
  • nuts and seeds, beef jerky (high in sodium though), some protein bars, and vegetables with dip off the top of my head.
  • I see IIFYM as more geared towards weight loss than overall health, but I suppose it is possible to get macros and micros right when you are eating at maintenance or a surplus. When your goals are 2lb/loss per week, you won't be able to get both on a IIFYM diet without proper supplementation, and you will also likely be…
  • Theory is sound, I tend to fill in extra calories with tasty foods, but my macros and deficit pretty much make me stay on a more normal diet path. Good luck getting all the needed macro/micro nutrients on 1k defecit a day, while eating enough low cal foods so you aren't plagued by hunger all day. If you can do it eating…
  • Read it. It's slanted, vague, and mostly wrong.
  • No, wrong. Being without carbs for "too long" will not hurt you. Carbs are the body's preferred energy source because they are the easiest to break down. Fat is just another energy source. People aren't giving the body's ability to adapt nearly enough credit.
  • From a T-Nation article I have to go get the bookmarks source for off my computer: "Yes, I drink almond milk occasionally. It has virtually no carbs in it, so I guess it's a good dieter's drink. It also has a nice, nutty taste. However, it doesn't stack up all that well against regular cow's milk. Granted, store-bought…
  • What is this, I don't even... My head asplode!
  • Shenanagins! I have skinny cow in my freezer!
  • Noone said milk was a super food. It's just a food. It has nutrients. Cows milk has protein. 80% casien and 20% whey. Good proteins.
  • Honey was designed for bees, what's your point?
  • It's one of my supplements. I prefer it over fish oil. I take a multivitamin, a coconut oil, and green tea extract.
  • Yes it counts. No it will not quench thirst/hunger like water.
  • All food takes some energy to digest. None of it is adjusted for post-digestion. Even ones that may or may not have a negative caloric effect. Bottom line, log everything. Count the dietary caloric value of the food the same for all items you eat.
  • And I absolutely believe in nutrient timing relative to strenuous physical activity.
  • IIFYM - don't make it sound like everyone's macros are the same
  • This is what I follow (below), but because of your condition I would listen to your doctor over the amateurs here on Mfp. http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/one_hundred_gram_carb_cure
  • Now, what you are saying, for the most part, is true.. if calories in is less than calories out, you will lose weight regardless of what you eat or when you eat it.. ie: twinkie diet. Thank you Law of Thermodynamics. However.. keeping your macros in line, staying under your calories, and all the things that are good.. is…
