Very well put! Amazing the level of guilt we have for simply putting ourselves first. Crazy!

I'd love to know the science behind this. Answers on a postcard please...

     I misread the title and was about to post my favourite recipe (Nigella's polenta cake:http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/LEMON-POLENTA-CAKE-5308) but it's got a zillion calories, so you have to just have a teeny tiny slice. Some other good suggestions above and while I know it's not…

Can't believe I've read through eight pages and still can't see the recipe for this better-than-sex cake. Feeling used :grumble:

Have to say I agree with everyone else. Not only is 800 way too low but there is absolutely no balance in your diary. Even Atkins allows for plenty of veg and salad to make sure you get all the nutrients you need. I'm not sure what "medical supervision" means but any clinician advocating this without real reason (i.e. if…

Arrrrggghhh! Tryptophan. Arrrrggghhh! Amino acid. Arrrrggghhh! Occurs naturally in food such as turkey. Arrrrggghhh! Helps to combat depression and put you in a good mood. Arrrrggghhh! Sounds weird and I can't pronounce it so it must be eeeeeeeeviiiiiiiiiiiiil!

This! And also posting comments on sugar being evil and Kate Moss being 'thinspirational'. Not judging, just saying.

Did someone say chocolate? I'm in!

Did a 40-minute walk/run before breakfast; does that count? If so, I'm in!

But it's the tastiest. Nom nom nom. I tend to go for chicken thighs instead - tastier and cheaper. Just weigh and log the calories.

And thanks for the suggestions of going to a deli. None near me, unfortunately, but will keep an eye out while I'm elsewhere. And never though of Amazon - will have a look.

Two more taste tests! 2. Sainsburys Taste the Difference Albacore in oil: Very pale and delicate flavour. Delicious but not sure it's worth the extra expense. 3. Sainsburys Tuna Steak in Olive Oil: Really loved this - great flavour, held its shape well. At the moment No.3 is winning for taste and value but think John West…

QFT - keep doing what you're doing!

But but but!!! We need a common enemy to keep the Kingdom of MFP united. And you are now telling me that McDonalds are good guys? Who can we hate if we can't hate McDonalds?!

Taste test #1: the verdict is in Bought several different tins of tuna at Sainsburys today (thanks for all the tips). Had John West No Drain Tuna Steak with Sunflower Oil for lunch and was impressed. No hint of mushiness but it was a little lacking in flavour (soon sorted out with a smattering of capers, anchovies, hard…

I usually cook it and let it cool to have in salads. Cook it with some stock and herbs or spices to add flavour. Once cold add whatever you fancy - chopped peppers, spring onions, almonds, raisins, celery, beetroot etc etc). If you're having it warm it's nice with things with plenty of juice (curries, chilies, tagines,…

Sounds amazing. The first time I had fruit in a salad was a revelation (sad, I know!).

Thanks for the tip - recorded them and raring to go!

QFT. I can but hope that if I'm ever lucky enough to get pregnant that I'll have the same attitude

Albacore? Yellowfin? Katsuwonus Pelamis? Wow, who knew tuna could vary so much? Sounds a bit sad but looking forward to hunting all these down and trying them out.
-
I really can't as I work away from home with no access to cooking facilities, unfortunately.

Thanks everyone. Think I'm going to have to have a trip to the supermarket and buy one of each of the ones recommended and do a taste test! I've had a Google for Ortiz too and it's sadly really expensive mail order. Will keep looking though. Funnily enough, Pizza Express Nicoise salad always has really good tinned tuna in…

Oh, and as others have said, find like-minded people on MFP! If one of my friends posts that they have been out for a run it's often the motivation I need to get off the couch and get outside!

I've seen better results through running combined with weights than any other exercise. The change in the shape of my legs in particular is impressive. With weight loss it is still about calorie deficit. So by all means run to increase your fitness, posture, legs and sense of wellbeing but don't rely on it for weight loss…

Wise words. The only time I stick to my calories and macros is when I'm eating the foods I want, rather than something prescriptive. If I want a glass of wine or icecream in the evening I simply cut back during the day or go for a run to create a deficit. Works for me, anyway,

Not a Debbie Downer at all - you are absolutely right. The focus of MFP is sensible eating and, er, fitness. There are other forums for VLCD, which are not advocated by MFP. Far too many people have come to MFP to make the step away from undereating/orthorexia and discussions about VLCD are not helpful.
